Be nice to your baristas

Only the first time. Every other time she was calm and nice.

well that goes back to treating a one time offender nicely the first time. cause maybe it was just a bad day for her. and if she were to be mean again, then you can assume she's probably just mean spirited. but Kaplah! she was nice!
go figure xD ppl CAN be nice to those serving them!

omg. i opened again this morning.

firstly, let me just say that despite the 430 AM alarm clock, i like opening shifts. not only do we get to affect ppls days (which i always try to do in a nice way) but i also am done usually around 9 (i'm only PT so they rarely have me work more than 6 hours at a time) so i have the rest of the day to myself. too bad all the rest of my friends have jobs that are when i get out, or all day or whatever. (i really need something to occupy my mind in the summer, i'm fucked this summer, i got nothing to do and it's KILLING ME, like literally, i've had mental breakdowns already about shit that never would have phased me, not to mention my mom thinks i'm clinically depressed and it's been making me WAY over-reactive with this cute guy i've been trying to see <_<;;; /fails)

now that i've cleared that up. i also want to say that nobody was terribly at fault for this morning's fiasco.

apparently due to storms and whatnot the grid my store is on lost power for 4 hours. ergo they failed at closing yesterday, when we got in the place wasn't really clean, and things just hadn't gotten done that should DEFINITely have been done. but alas! i was supposed to be opening with my manager who is a TREAT! we love her, and she's fantastic at what she does, but she apparently has been having issues covering somebody else's hours and longstoryshort: i was opening with a shift from another store O_O

now, this person was really nice, but she doesn't know our store. i ended up having to do the brunt of the opening jobs, as well as trying to keep recovering from last night's shit.

THANK GOD i'm a morning person, cause i would have killed somebody lol. but all in all, we recovered, veni vidi vici.

anybody else ever work with a borrowed or temp employee?

Perhaps this is just specific to my job, but I think that people who work in retail/food service need to be careful to not get annoyed/transfer said negative feelings at the people who are helping you out for something (in my case, customer service). Don't get me wrong, I can empathise to what has happened to you. I get to deal with worse on a daily basis.

Let me explain:
I work in a mall, my semi-official title is "Customer Service Representative" (however, I enjoy telling people I'm a grossly underpaid babysitter) but its not quite exactly in what you're thinking.

Anyway, if I have to run up 4 flights of stairs to get to your store because of an individual its quite a bad idea to piss *me* off because the person happened to piss *you* off. Not like I'm going to do anything to you, but it makes me a little apprehensive with coming to help you out again (since everytime I help you, I put myself/my job at risk).

Example: Some people went into a clothing store into the mall that was handing out some sort of instore sale coupon for something. There were this couple who was in there and the husband/boyfriend/etc got handed this coupon by one of the female store reps. Wife/Girlfriend got pissed because she thought the rep was being flirty/suggestive to the husband/boyfriend. She started freaking out and yelling at everyone and then I got called to deal with it. So I went up there, calmed the woman down, talked to the manager and her, helped solve the issue, and then sent them on their merry ass way out of the mall. Now because my paperwork I had to go ask the female rep what happened. Don't crawl up my ass by calling me names, insulting my intelligence (because apparently folding shirts is a higher calling in life), making threats against my person, and saying what I should/shouldn't do.
So don't turn yourself into my crappy customer because you had a crappy customer, transference isn't cool.

Honestly speaking, employees can be just as bad as the asshole customers they have to deal with. Trust me, I have my own bad "customers" and the last thing I need from the mall employees is for them to treat me like the whipping boy.

well ya, i wasn't mad or angry or bad to her, i just hated the fact that i was stuck opening partially by myself :/ it sucked lol.

yay short mid shift today, 230-6 lol. and then i get to deal with Sears ppl! w00t w00t!... -_- fuck...

I agree Zebix, transference isn't cool. I am sorry to hear that the sales rep was mean to you. No one has the right to take out their frustration on someone else. I always tried not to do that when I waited tables. I'd usually vent to a co-worker.

At my first job with Little Caesars (I was there for four years and my best friend Joe and I were like their Wunder Twinz - skyrocketted to management, etc), they sent myself and my friend (two co-managers) to a store to help out on what is called a CAD day (Customer Appreciation Day). This is pre-$5-cardboard-with-cheese-on-it pizza making. So we go into this store thats only two cities over from our home store and start our shift. The workers are slow, they dont get orders right and the store is FILTHY. Not to mention, they didn't make enough dough by FAR to cover a busy CAD day. So, Joe and I start away at prepping pizzas for cooking, tweaked the oven so it would cook at the standard time and while the sloths up front were 'shelling out pizza', Joe did 9 batches of dough in roughly 45 minutes while I started cleaning.

So, I guess it wasn't 'opening with another person from a different store' its more 'walking into a dungeon and trying to make a resturant out of it'. I was such a goody-two-shoes that after I cleaned practically the whole store I called the area supervisor and reported their manager >_> she got fired.

On the other hand, I DO find the Apple Corporation and all its associated employees to be the highest level of pretension (I luff you Lucki if you're watching this!!)

Just saw this Moby... ಠ_ಠ

I was working out on the patio today and had a table of six people, two kids and four adults. I went over and said hi to them and before I could even finish talking she interrupts me with "I'd like a water" and proceeds over drinks for everyone else at the table. That's the one major thing that bugs me the most, when people interrupt me before I've even said my name or that just tell you their order without me even saying anything.

Let me say what I'm going to say and then I'll take your order, mkay? /facepalm

This reminds me of one of my former coworkers. A woman did the same thing to her. After the meal the table was praising her for her waitressing skills and the same woman asked for her name. The waitress replied, "I'd like a water." Yeah she was one of those people who really didn't care if she pissed them off or not. I think the table laughed it off.

Before you get piss off at such a little thing like that you have to know you are a waitress and that will happen ALOT

Now to my point, this was a family obvously and the mom ordered right away "probably saving you a LOT of greif" Trust me parents know their kids and waht they have to do to keep them in line. If the mom woulda jsut wondered over the Menu and let you talk the kids woulda been yelling they want ice cream they want pancakes , orange soda ect ect

Usally the mom will do this to cut off her kids, not you, please dont take it personal
You will come to udnerstand this statment once you get your own children to a public place

the mom made the order short and fast for you so they can get out of theri tim time to go watch a movie or do w/e esle, i realize it seems rude but she's so focus on keeping everything in order having a quick lunch and going to the next thing to do on the list for that day. This is NOT easy with kids, if yoiu dont take control the LAG it takes alsmot twice as much time to go anywehre or do anything with kids if yoiu give in and don't focus

If mom wasn't on taht tyrant attitude which also affected you, you would have a hell of a time with kids spilling this nad screaming for taht.. wanting this and a big mess of a table to clean.

Tell me, with people who are in a hurry like this and with parents who chill out and let their kids order w/e they want.. Im sure you delt with both situations , which one would you rather prefrer,, think back to those parents who let their kids order and who let their kids walk around the reatuarent and go under tables

that being siad this is staright form a prents point of view which not all but a lot of you will not realize till later.

its jsut like all tehh wal-mart enplyees who can't stand crying kids and parents "ignoreing" them soemtiems that is teh best thing to do, and "most " parents do try to elave their kid at home a lot, but sometiems you jsut dont ahve a sitter and soemtiems you never have a sitter becasue yoru a single parent and have to "make the best " out of th situation

Believe me, I have 2 kids and 3 stepkids, and taking them all out can be very... challenging. I have zero respect for parents who let their children do whatever the hell they want - scream, throw shit on the floor, interrupt people, etc. However, when their parent interrupts people, all it does is teach the children to do the same. Bottom line is that its bad manners to interrupt.

No one listens to anything anymore. Everyone just does a half-assed job of waiting for their turn to talk. Regardless of the woman's intentions for interrupting, it isn't be best solution - as a customer, parent, or person.

9) be VERY VERY CAREFUL when picking up your drink, make sure IT'S YOURS!!!:

This. This has happened to me about 5 times in the past year. You ordered a tall mocha frappuccino you fucking jackass, not a venti caramel macchiato. Why the hell do you think your cold drink is piping hot? BECAUSE IT WAS MINE! Fuck you for standing 3 spots behind me in line and grabbing my drink right after you order like yours is already ready..

wtf is a line at Starbucks? It's a fucking mob at the Barnes and Noble and the standalone Starbucks here...

BTW, I just remembered this. I am nice to my baristas dammit. Long before Stine and I even started dating, I was so nice to one of my baristas that I took her out to dinner.

She was a weird, clingy fucker. Couldn't deal with that, so it was a one-date deal.

I dine in restaurants often and can tell you that a trained server is worthy of a sturdy tip. I do not need to know my server's name in order to place my order. You should be able to do your job without my having to call you by name.

Great servers are capable of multi-tasking. They do not waste a trip to/from the kitchen/prep area.

If I order water it usually means that I am undecided about another drink and you could try offering me wine with my meal. If I ask for an additional napkin you should scan my table (and any other tables you have) for other needs without being asked. In this way, you can return with my napkin and a water pitcher/coffee carafe.

If a server does not offer soda/wine/dessert it is probably because the front of house manager/trainer/head server did not train them to do so. If a server does not attempt to increase their check with extras then they are just doing their job, if they do - it's their career.

Restaurants that have higher prices treat their servers as salespeople. They are expected to suggestive sell extra items to increase the total bill.

get a new job then and stop acting like everyone has been trained in the world of starbucks. iv worked in food service along time. i just laugh at the jackasses now. dont let them drag you down because they are on a power trip or hate life

What I enjoy the most is coming across employees in the customer service area that have a grudge against everyone. Down the street from my mom's place there is a Chevron station where this angry little Chinese man works and he's always muggin me lol. I got tired of it and just decided to go along with it and started calling him "Sunshine". At least he had a reason to give me the look of death.

If you hate your job that much then put in your 2 weeks and find something else lol.

To Darkfelicity:
As Linhjah said it is very rude to interrupt. In fact her kids were well behaved and could have ordered drinks for themselves. That and they stayed for an extra 45 min after they finished their meals. They were in no rush. Yes, people will do that, in fact they do it a lot, but they least they could do is have the common courtesy to let a person finish talking and then speak.

And to Kahsha:
I pride myself in being a great server. I'm not the best, but I know I'm at least good. My managers see that and that's why I'm a trainer where I work. I also can multi-task very well. Just because we are at work doing our jobs doesn't mean people shouldn't treat us like pieces of meat or a means to an end. We are people too; we have names, personalities, and preferences. I am not one to push anything on people just to get a bigger tip. Half the time it doesn't work anyway. Many times when a person orders water here in West Michigan, the most conservative, cheap people I have served in my life, they want nothing else to drink other than water and basically just don't want to have to play for a drink.

I'm sorry if this is sounding rude, that was never my intension, I just want to make sure that people understand that people who are servers are people too, not just 'that person that brings me my food.' If it were that way then there wouldn't be servers, would there?
