Bekki Ditches

Sorry, but I may have been tempted to ditch you all too. Put yourself in this 'bekki's shoes. You join a party and they want YOU to level SLOWER than them so that THEIR xp doesn't get cut. Then when you've finally had enough, they start bitching and moaning about how THEIR XP is going to be cut a whole what? 3 to 4 mobs earlier?

I probably would of gotten sick of the whining and wanted to go too.

When you level that much earlier, and *your* exp gets cut too (exp per kill is dictated by highest level in party, but actual ability to kill stuff is dictated by overall party levels, tank weighted most importantly, followed by DDs, followed by support), it affects you too.

If you're the highest level in the party, you save your exp ring (of whatever variety) charge for a different party, where using it won't give the party - which includes you, for those selfish people out there - a harder time. If you're the lowbie in the party, exp ring to your heart's content. You get the extra exp, *and* you start catching up with the party and can pull more weight, so your faster exp gain is an advantage. To the party as a whole, and by extension to you personally.

Exp rings are to be used in situations where that increase in exp speeds up your overall exp gain (i.e. the party's overall exp gain, assuming you're not solo). If it slows down your overall exp gain, such as by widening the party's level gap, then frankly you'd be better off in an exp/time calculation if you *didn't* use it. The misuse of it will make it flatly worse for the rest of the party, and for you personally the best you can hope for is that it cancels out.

This is common sense, gameplay mechanics, and a bit of math. And it's quite understandable and justifiable to criticize people for using exp rings at the ideally *worst* times considering the existing party levels. :P

Bekki babysits, and let's the kid play from time to time.

She's usually not the kind of person to ditch, I've known her for a very long time. There's no way for her to have proof that he was playing, however, bekki isn't that type of person to play in that sort of manner

I'm sorry Areya if you know this person, but people letting babysat kids play their accounts is NOT kewl!

(For clarification, the following is NOT directed at Areya)

Not only is that an invalid excuse, frankly it appears that they are a liar too. Not someone I'd want to party with. This type of selfish "me first" crap is one of the biggest problems in the game. If you dont give a flying phuque about people you play with and only want to get XP the fastest perhaps joining the RMT's like Precise would be better.

Whether or not it was the person who usually plays "Bekki" behind the keyboard, Bekki is responsible for everything that is done under her name while someone is controlling that character. Be it her or the kid she babysits or her aged grandmother, to the community, it is still one person--Bekki. There is no way to ever prove or disprove who it is behind the keyboard, so we must take all of Bekki's actions in-game as just that--Bekki's actions.

I share accounts with someone else, and no matter which of us uses the characters, we both take responsibility for whatever the other does. It's called understanding the consequences of loaning your character to someone else, be it they doing something you wouldn't do, or ripping off all of your stuff. If Bekki doesn't like this kid being an ass on her character, then she shouldn't loan her character to someone else.

Heh, okay then.

I doubt she was attempting to avoid responsibility of what happened, but was rather letting the community know that it wasn't her that was playing behind her character at the time, but hey that's my take on it. I've known Bekki for a pretty long time, and from what I can gather she has yet to disappoint me. Unfortunately when anything is brought to this board, readers can't wait to push someone down for any fault.

REGARDLESS

IMO, this certain incident is rather minor considering what could have happened. I'm just surprised that someone decided to bring this to the flameboard; players ditch parties every day. It happens...what makes this incident any different from the rest?

I have to disagree. My experiences as well as those of friends of mine have shown that she's the type of player that will use others to progress in this game. And rather than be honest that she is only looking out for herself, she lies.

We all pay to play the game. Some play for others as well as themselves, and then there are people like Bekki that only care about getting themselves somewhere without looking back to the people that helped them get there in the first place. I'm not one of those players, I don't ditch the people that help me get somewhere in this game and I don't have a lot of respect for players that play like that.

This event is an example of that. Instead of arranging to get herself a replacement like most considerate people would have done, she planned on leaving as soon as she got her lvl. Sure the lvls of the party members wasn't ideal, but those other 5 people are what helped her get her lvl (if she did get it that night). She should of made the better choice and joined another party if this one wasn't suited for her, however she accepted the invite to get what she wanted from it with the intention of leaving right away.

And I don't buy the "someone else was playing my character" because she's been caught lying before to "save face". Months ago, she told the dynamis LS she was in for a few months that she was out of town for a few weeks and would be unable to make the runs... however, attendance records from her "new" dynamis ls that she's been in reveal that wasn't the case. She was one of those people that claimed she was given an ultimadum to join her dynamis LS and gave 1 day notice back when that huge dynamis flame happened.

Couldn't disagree more. The only time I agree with your scenario is if I am in a static party and have gotten significantly ahead. In a pickup party? Fuckem! I'm there to xp as well, sorry, and you can't tell me that in this era of waiting for the 'perfect' setup, or better xp/hr that most would do anything different.

Again, this person popped the ring @1k. That amounts to a difference of 3-4 mobs before they level anyway and was not really worth the pissin and moaning. In your 'simple math', does not popping the ring at all vrs using the ring really mean overall xp drops when we are consider a 3-4 mob difference? Sorry, I don't think so.

You are dead on about the party mechanics. Ideally the tank and DD should be highest, followed by the support. This Whm did not put the party together. Probably what happened was that they needed a healer, this Whm was the only one available, so he invited so that he could get the party started and also tried to make the healer not use her band because he was scarred of the fact that it might hamper his xp. Who is the one being selfish again?

When I am leveling in a pickup party, more times than not, it will be my only party for the night whether it sucks or not, so I am not going to 'save my charge for the next party'.

Furthermore, going 28 to 29 is not going to affect xp that much in Yhoat.

It happens...what makes this incident any different from the rest?

The OP was miffed enough about it to post here, whereas most people just write it off and say f-it, NEXXXXT!

Orrrrr maybe find something else to do. =/

*takes off teh gloves*

I see your point, but letting some twit play your character is flammable. Admitting that shows that you dont give a shit either. Why not setup a mule for the lil guy and let him mess up for himself?

Kreoss was "spot on". You gotta take responsibilty for what your character does.

Someone once said that you don't give the keys to your Ferarri to your ten year old do you? (Albeit extreme exaggeration, but you get the point.)

Its a game chillout, perhaps. On the other hand I'd rather know that if some careless person is letting younger people or their mom play their character, not to "play" with that person.

And though this may have been a one time incident, I tend to believe that it has happened before and will happen again and thus is Flammable, lol.

Furthermore, going 28 to 29 is not going to affect xp that much in Yhoat.

At jungle levels, if one person uses an Anniversary Ring charge and others don't, they're half a level higher relative to the rest, than they were beforehand. That's more than 3-4 mobs. Again, benefit if they're lowbie in the party and no real harm if they're near the average, but in a party where they're the highest, where the level spread is painful enough as it is, and making that *worse*? C'mon, that's just stupidity.

If the event of "highest person levels and exp goes to crap" is going to happen, it's going to happen. Yes. There's no reason whatsoever to go out of your way to make it happen *sooner*. Particularly because often parties will disband, or move around, or find replacement members, when that happens, in order to get the party once again getting good exp. That takes away from exp/hr, particularly if it results in disbanding. Why do we want to hurry up this event happening again? (Not to mention, if the party disbands before the exp band's done doing its work, there's the implied risk that you may waste that by having the Dedication wear off due to time instead of exp.)

The high person's using the band and worsening the exp rate, affects the entire party's exp, including their own, which you seem to have overlooked. That's why I said that, at best, it'll end up cancelling out (for exp/hr) for the person who did it *during* the exp band, and then it'd be the same negative effect that everyone else got, once it wore off.

When it's a situation of getting ~120 a kill before the highbie levels and ~80 a kill after (with approximately the same kill rate, maybe slightly faster depending on what job the highbie is), the highbie's gonna be suffering those numbers too once their ring wears off. So in the long run, they've accelerated the process of the overall exp/hr for the party (which they're part of) going down.

And that's called being shortsighted - short term improvement at the cost of long term detriment. If you want to encourage that and only look at short term improvement, by all means, feel free, but I hope you don't mind if I assign you a mental label called "myopic".

I don't know/care why it was posted, but I now know through her own admittance that she lets random kids play her account, which to me is a super no-no, so now I know never to invite her to do anything I wanna do because I won't know if it's her or Johnny Anderson who knows/cares nothing of in-game etiquette and will interrupt my gaming experience. So yeah, I'm glad this topic was posted, one less problem I'll have to worry about in-game.

Oh, and apparently Alanon too, who is defending someone who had already planned to ditch a pt in advance without any warning after they dinged. If he's defending this, I can only assume he would do the same thing and would also be a waste of my time.

As for the topic of the xp band, this game isn't rocket science, when people get way ahead in xp, it causes problems. Either the slows for decent xp are slow because of the oddball or the kills are for shitty xp since that's all the pt can kill and the oddball just gimps it. You can't have both. If you aren't planning to ditch a pt (which this girl/guy playing her account was planning to do), then it's not smart to use an xp band charge if you know it's going to fuck with the pt's ability to chain for good xp, especially an anniversary ring that will basically give you a whole extra level at those lower levels. I swear, you think people at lvl 75 would remember how to play at lower levels but apparently not.

Ah, the classic friend defense, followed by the "the Flameboard is a den of iniquity!" argument.

The OP felt it was serious enough to bring here and bitch about it. There's more trivial stuff posted here every day--a good example is you and Lec flirting it up after this post, or anything involving Shyrra being a whore. Given that there's been, what, 5-6 pages of people discussing this where things actually haven't been derailed to hell by the Shyrra Gang, I'd say that people feel this actually -is- relevant content.

As far as the friend defense, I'm sure you've had some good experiences with Bekki, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she isn't the sort of person that would do what the OP says, or lie to cover her trail, or irresponsibly hand over her character to a babysitting client. Pretty much no matter which way we look at it, Bekki acted badly, was called on it, and she offered up excuses. Another incident was brought up regarding Dynamis where she did something similar, as far as doing something badly then trying to cover her tracks.

It doesn't matter whether this person has been a good friend to you or not--she's at the very least been guilty of some irritating behavior, which the OP felt the community needed to know about. I don't particularly think "This isn't good enough for the FB" type arguments are valid.

I understand your point...I was just giving my view on the situation. I just disagree with you. You're entitled to your opinion as much as I am. It's all fun and games until you're the one being flamed.
