A person is who a person is. Good people are good in real life and on the internet. If you have it in you to be a jackass when on the internet, that makes you a jackass. After all, the real test of a person's character isn't how s/he acts when there are consequences. It's how s/he acts when there aren't any. You are who you are. Some people are just better at controlling themselves than others. If Rannoch can do these sorts of things under any circumstances, then the adjectives that apply to him in FFXI and on QCDN apply to him anywhere. There's no need to be specific. You don't have to do bad things everywhere and at every moment to be a bad person- noone fits that qualification. You don't see people like Sabia (probably "good" personified) coming up in threads with stuff like "I'm just a jackass on the internet", because she's not a jackass. So, either you are a jackass or you aren't, but it's not a lightswitch. Good people aren't routinely jackasses some of the time, and if they find themselves acting like one, they apologize.

That is one of the most intelligent things I have hear in days. I can say I do agree to some extent but some people like to act like someone they are not on the internet.
 
People just take it way to serious.

Obviously Rannoch got a good laugh out of it and it was fun for him.

You guys are now acting like he's going to go to school and call for help on some extra credit he missed out on so no body else in class gets it. Virtual worlds and real life vary's very much and people read into characteristics too heavily.

One of the characteristics of a bad person is the willingness to have a good time at the expense of others. Noone is suggesting Rannoch is a masochist. Obviously, he had a good time doing what he did, or he wouldn't have done it. It doesn't change who he is. I've never seen any Gunnerx posts that say "Yeah, I get a kick out of ruining people's day, but only on the internet" because you don't get a kick out of ruining people's day, right? You're just not that type of person. Rannoch is. It doesn't matter if he's selective about where he practices the behavior.

Rannoch is one of my best friends, so i don't appreciate people talkin him down. Maybe you don't aggree with his decisions but who cares, this is a game after all and i know that excuse gets tired but no one will lose sleep over it.

Well, I think this thread is done. I dunno how it got to 17 pages, but oh well. Basically, it's the same people arguing over and over saying the same thing over and over...which is Bender and Co. are dicks. Now that we've learned that, this thread can prolly be locked now since nothing new is going into it.
 
Every person has a good and bad side. And because of one occurance doesn't mean you can judge his personality. Have you ever heard of someone on this game playing with the mindset of making people think they are a girl, when they turn out to be a guy. I'm not saying anything like this is Rannoch, but people's personality on the internet and in real life is TOTALLY different, but not always.


If someone gets pissed off on QCDN they can show a bad side and everyone will turn around with "Omg this person is being an asshole, therefore that's how they are in real life" No. I am a relatively nice person in my life, i have friends and I'm well respected, but look at me on QCDN, people can shit talk me and think of me and/or my friends aswhat ever they like, but no one knows what is or is not true.

If it is only a game, then why did Bender CFH? Why are you supporting such a stupid action like that. Something funny to you can be upsetting to others. Even though its the internet you should be a little more considerate of others' feelings.

People play for fun. Rannoch was having fun, i never said i was supporting it i just thought that it's funny how people blow this is kind of thing out of proportion when it happens alot, but you don't see everyone crying when Nidhogg gets CFH'ed in the Aery, especially over some stupid knife from a NM that can pop twice a day.

Then take the tool off the game for calling for help.

It was a legit claim, imo Rannoch can then do what he wishes with his mob.

Gunner, Rannoch is a fucktwat. He is immature and a prick. I have 0 respect for him, there is a difference between you and him. He is a typical one lining prick that cant come up w/ more than a sentence in argument if his life depended on it. I have more respect for you and Mrmadwolf because you two actually can come up w/ an intellectual conversation. Plus Mrmad bounces Snowfox in and out of channels at a regular basis.

I find it immature when a fucktwat comes onto Vent w/ a name "Annonymous" to listen in on other people's conversations. And yes I am refering to Rannoch.

Let me just use my SE editing format to eliminate the CFH function. Finally I think that NM's shouldn't be CFH's just because he wasn't able to kill it, its not "his" NM.

Everyone has a reputation and those that like and dislike them.

He has been one of my best friends on this game for a while and i have mutaul respect for you as well seeing as our past has been put behind us. But i always got his back even though wat he does everyone seems to dislike him for, but people will move on sooner or later and realize (once again) it's just an item in a game that doesn't influece someone's life 5 years down the road. (i pulled the card, sew me)

Hi, Jyak. It's nice to know you care about me, even though you've never actually heard me talk, or talked to me at all. Also I don't need to type more than a paragraph if I can sum it all up in one or two lines cause I I don't like to type much.

Being a loyal friend is a good thing. There's no question there. When I believe my friends are in the right, I stick up for them. When I think they're wrong, though, I simply step aside and remain neutral. Getting involved on either side is a losing proposition in such a situation. I'd never argue that Rannoch is any particular sort of person in real life, because I don't know that. My argument is just that it's not what you do that makes you good or bad, because smart bad people won't do bad things if doing so would be bad for them. My argument is that you can't separate internet behavior from real life behavior. I'm not talking about roleplaying a bad guy. He was just being himself. "Himself" just happens to be a person who has a good time doing the sorts of things admitted to in this thread. He might not do such at school, or around his parents, or hanging out with friends. Heck, I'd bet he doesn't. To believe so would paint him as a moustach twirling archtype villain, and that's not realistic at all. Noone's perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Good people feel bad about them. Bad people don't. The specific location of the mistake is irrelevant.
 
People who feel the need to get their jollies off over the internet "because they can" always give me a good laugh.

Nothing but a bunch of little punks is what they are, and nothing they will ever say can change that. Sad.
