Looking to pick up a new game for the PS3, and I'm pretty much out of the loop on what has come out since its release. The only games I have are Tekken 6 and FFXIII.

What are your thoughts? What have you enjoyed playing the most, in the turn-based and action RPG genres?

You counting SRPGs? Valkyria Chronicles is amazing.

I liked Star Ocean 4 and Eternal Sonata.

Dragon Age on the PS3 was pretty sweet too.

Since you ruled out Demon's Souls nothing comes even close to being as awesome as Valkyria Chronicles. Hell, it's only $20 as well. I'll also recommend Resonance of Fate. However, thinkin' you ruled out Demon's Souls because it is extremely brutal, well, can be, I'm not sure this would be right for you. While it isn't near as hard, it's not a walk in the park especially if you're not good with complex details. It's a very rewarding game if you're up to the challenge though be it a bit quirky.

If you can't go with any of that I would just say screw the genre and get Super Street Fighter IV or wait until BlazBlue: CS hits later this month, definitely do not buy BlazBlue: CT as it is about to become obsolete.

Resonance of Fate is amazing and extremely fun, but don't expect much resolution at the end, sadly. Tales of Vesperia is also a definite must-buy, if it ever comes to America. I'm still waiting on that so I can start my second playthrough.

Edited my previous post for clarification.

I'll take a look at the recommendations and see about picking one.

Thanks.

Oh I see what you did there. My bad.

Goin' to have to agree with you Bajaratt but I don't really play games for their story. The gameplay is what that game is all about for me and Resonance would definitely level up someones game if they let it. To be clear though, if you're just lookin' for an enjoyable ride with little stress definitely pick something else. Also, the game is the definition of hit or miss so try to find it used so you can take it for a spin but return it if it turns out to not be for you.

Dragon Age is an amazing game. However please get the PC version if you can as it's far superior. I couldn't ever imagine using anything but the top down camera view. However, if you PC won't run it (it's a fairly low spec game if I remember correctly) get it for PS3/Xbox 360 anyway as it's still amazing, so I have heard.

I've not finished yet, I'd say I'm a little over half way done but it's highly addictive, has an good storyline that I genuinely care about and will keep you busy for quite a while.

Yeah, the gameplay is definitely amazing. It's also fun being able to customize your guns to alter it's stats, and then you make some truely insane looking guns. It's also hilarious.

To contradict your previous statement anyway: Demon's Souls. Best and hardest game I've played in a long time.

Valkyria, Eternal Sonata, Desgaia 3 (if you like that sort of thing), and I've heard great things about SO4, but haven't personally played it.

I have also really enjoyed Cross Edge, especially if you're looking for a good turn-based RPG. Especially if you've played Gust/NIS/etc. games.

I picked up Demon's Souls earlier today; I'll be giving it a shot later on.

Any insight into class selection that isn't obvious from the descriptions in the manual? From the looks of it, it only affects initial stats and equippage, and has little or no effect from there?

After a few hours into the game your starting class is very much insignificant.

Here is a little something something to help you out as well, you'll need all the help you can get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qG018Yg4kOM

Also, do not give up. This game will milk every ounce of skill you have out of you and slap your ass some more. However, you'll be more a gamer than you were to begin with and it's very rewarding for the ol' pride box. If I could give one piece of advice I'd say this, be extremely cautious, play as if you would handle the situation in real life. It's not uncommon for a creep to be wall whoring just waiting for you to run past him so he can smoke your tail.

I loved SO4. It has what every great tri-Ace game has, insane post-game grinding. The dungeon with Gabriel Celeste is standard, but the one with Etheral Queen is nuts. 20 floors, no save points, a boss on every second floor finishing with E.Queen. Every floor without a boss has a mission to complete before you progress - which can be some random battle, destroying crystals or handing in Geostones. Geostones are a pain in the butt. Semi-rare drops from monsters on the floor and you could be required to trade as much as 20.

None of this "return to previously explored floors" thing either. The dungeon completely resets if you exit. Pray that you don't screw up against Ethereal Queen or you'll be back on level one!

Needless to say... I loved it!
