Best starting nation?

What I recall of Bastok was that it was almost entirely just character development for the big players in the mission series (Gumbah, Cornelia, Volker, Zeid) and that not much actually *happened*. You do get some galka back story, and the galkas get a new talekeeper, but other than that not much of any importance ever actually happens.

Compared to Sandy's stuff with finding and dealing with the powerful sword Lightbringer (suffice it to say, Tavnazia wasn't cut off by any secret beastman weapon), and Windy's stuff with the revival of a terrestrial avatar ... well, character development in Bastok is nice and all but it's not quite so high up there in the whole importance scale. :P

Apparently you're forgetting the whole part about the shadowlord, that kinda had more than a slight impact on the world. Sandy's just explained who the tavnazia were and why sandy was left untouched during the war; also Fenrir did pretty much nothing after you bring him back, so his return didn't mean much. Plus of all of the story characters, only bastok's actually show up in the other expansions' story lines.

Except Trion being part of Aht Urghan, right?

Oh, and Vilurum forgot to mention that Cornelia completely changes her attitude towards the city and her father.

Eh, I wasn't considering Aht Urghan since it's no where near complete yet so I don't know who's going to be involved. Probably should have mentioned that.

Well, as retarded as Trion is, he does bring forth the issues of the Empire to the other nations.

Yeah, walking around in solid gold armor acting pompous as hell is really going icognito.

I mentioned character development and I mentioned Cornelia. Her change in attitude is nothing more or less than that.

And as for the Shadow Lord stuff, I don't recall getting any more of that in the Bastok missions than I got in any other country (i.e. the stuff in missions 4-1 and 5-2 primarily). You do hear more about Ulrich but it's more in the sense of the Volker-Ulrich-Zeid relation and not much of anything about Raogrimm.

Or am I forgetting some rather important revelation? (If so, please point out to me which mission it was in, and being bored I'll wander off and replay the relevant cutscene.)

I did it over a year ago, don't remember the specific cut scene, but they did explain more about what happened that caused the shadowlord to come about and the reprecussions in the years that followed and the effects that are still being felt in Bastok.

9-1 sucked o_o

Just a hunch, but I doubt the people that think "windy is the best story ever!" give a shit whether or not the story is "important to the world's history"...

It's a story inside a roleplaying game. Entertainment takes the cake.
Historical accuracy and practicality are nice, but don't remind me of why I enjoy playing games. At any rate, to each his own.

Wow, I couldn't agree more. No amount of "but Basty and Sandy deal with CoP and RoZ and the ShadowLord in their missions so you're all wrong! D:" will change the fact that I prefer the Windy story-line. <Seconds the "to each his (or to be more PC 'their') own" comment.>

But threads like these always bring out people's fervent nationalism ;). Pick whichever nation you think will suit you best. Baj is right in one respect - you can change allegiance if you don't like the nation you end up choosing. Heck, you could do all three story-lines if you wished.
