Bible Thumpers

Really the best any of us can do is to believe ANY religion the way we want. Then one day we will find out if we were right or wrong. If we are right, the cool. If not, I would hope you will find it within your will to apologize and ask for forgivness.

Everyone has their own views on religion, and until actual proof or evidence is shown to declare one side right and the other wrong, we can only watch and wait.

Practice your religion based on how you think it is right. Let others do the same. In the end, someone is going to be wrong. And who else but god really knows who that is?

Very articulate, Reauland.

Your philosophy is flawed, Mokk.

Again, seriously, grow up a little. How bout it? Obviously you missed the obvious in my last post to you, i pointed out the irony of the whole thing just in case. It wasen't a personal thing, it illustrated a point. Go ahead and continue to have hurt feelings, i don't mind.

The whole damn point is i never claimed it wasen't flawed, however it's no more flawed than anyone elses. Amazingly enough there's only maybe a handful of people that brought my attention back to this thread for doing exactly that, claiming superiority based on inaccurate information and false conclusions. You want to believe in god? groovy. Just don't stretch the truth to suit your means and don't claim something is a fact over and over again without being able to provide some kind of source your basing what you believe to be facts, people aren't going to take your word for it.

Funny how i'm some kind of clod for requiring relevent information of people and rones is some kind of einstein in every argument he gets in to for doing exactly that or requiring it of people before they can be taken seriously in a conversation. My bad, on issues where everyone's wrong for their own personal reasons (namely religion and politics) i look to at least attempt to learn something from it all if someone's willing to provide factual information. What a horribly narrowminded person i must be.

In response to Reauland:

I'm incredibly duplicitous. Being of two minds about things is something of a bother. But it also allows for objectivity.

I think both are true of the creator aspect and the omnipotence aspect, i also believe that these are completely contrite human concepts that a higher being wouldn't concern themselves with, and this is a HUGE bitch of mine about people's views on god. How could you possibly thing that any being we could approximate to god thinks like a person? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, the humanization of god people use to give themselves a warm cuddly feeling is a contradiction in terms. Just my take on it, not interested in being validated on how correct or incorrect it might be as i can't bind myself to centuries of history behind this ideal to somehow prove the notion of my answers being the right ones, nor am i interested in sitting in some ivory tower while everyone else goes to hell because i think i'm correct. Like i said i subscribe to the theory that so long as you're a decent person you've got nothing to worry about.

To be fair they're the right answers for me and i'm not going to shove them down anyone's throat, which is the entirety of the topic of this thread. Motivation isn't mine to reason, i'd go mad trying, that other people think they have gods motivations nailed is quite possibly the most arrogant thing a person can manage to do, IMO. The crux of the whole thing is that no matter what your take on spirituality or religion is it's flawed.

Attempting to make it look like it isn't is ultimately futile no matter how many sources you can find to back your statement. Which is why i view religion and spirituality objectively and historical facts with an analytical mind.

You can take your opinion on the matter and say it 20 different ways and communicate the same idea. The obscure facts related to this issue aren't quite so flexible. Things like dates, translations, causes for what was viewed as cataclysm, political motivations, etc. Whereas you or i may not choose to accept the evidence one way or the other as an individual does not discredit the validity of many of those truths on both ends of the spectrum.

There was already a BBC documentary done, and many French books written, about a man who confessed to having wrote up false pieces of information about the Priory of Sion and placing them in the library of France. And the Priory of Sion was established in the 20th century (or 19th), whatever the 1900s are, so the people that the Da Vinci Code claims that started the Priory of Sion way back never did start the Priory of Sion way back. The Da Vinci Code is not fact.

I'm sorry it's the same as you pretending all that is written in the Bible happened that way.
There are facts in both those books and both fictional events and facts to spice up the whole thing.
And that is a fact.

To expand upon this idea, I will be in the New York Library this summer. Im going to find an origonal copy of the bible, in all its hebrew text and I will translate as much as I need to to come to a conclusion of how much of the bible is fact and how much is fiction, or even how much is bias, translation error, or a mere streching of the truth.

What will I find? I really can't say. Is there a possibility im wrong? Of course. We need to attempt to settle this debate.

I would go online to find the origonal bible, but the internet isnt always that trusty.

Anyone that wishs to be a part of this research is more than welcome. Just PM me if your interested.

I also know that in my translation, I myself can error, but I will be checking and re-checking my work, so I will do my best to make sure this does not happen.

If you think this idea is stupid, I really dont care. Flame away. But Im going to do what has to be done to confirm what is truth.

The whole Bible is written in poetic form which means that there will be metaphors, therefore it cannot all be taken literally. Some things that sound really odd to us are because it originally rhymed. Also a lot of the Bible was written so that the first letters of each line would either spell out something.
(i.e.:
As I walked down the road I
Played with dog that I had found
Place inside a box in the alley
Lined with filth and crud
Everything was dirty)

Also some of the stories are legends/tales from the time that are works fiction (this is a fact).

Above all else, the Bible is not meant to be taken as a recording of history or a story, its purpose is to make you believe in God.

No hurt feelings actually. =/

Your way of thinking and belief is fine to me, it's not harming me. The thing was that you were insulting people for having belief in "fantastical bullshit", with "weak minds" for following. And I really don't care if you don't find me "credible" enough because I don't post a source at the same time that I mention something. Though, I did show that I will do it afterwards if necessary. I've watched my share of documentaries, if you don't take my word for it or accept facts that have been unknown to you, oh well. It's not affecting me. It's not really my personal interest to be considered an "einstein", an "intellectual". And yeah that was just an example you gave, and that was my self explanation.

Well, looks like this one is over. Glad for it too.

You're right, the Da Vinci Code does have a lot of distorted facts/events to spice it up.

The bible thumpers are only trying to help you from your mistakes. They're not "attacking" you and making you feel like less of a person. If they do, then they are not the christians they claim to be. But any real christian knows that homosexuality is wrong.

I remember reading of them but couldn't remember where in the bible these statements were made. I did have to do research. I by all means take no credit for knowing this by heart, but I looked them up to prove the bible is in fact against homosexuality. Here they are:

Lev 18:22-23 "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.

Lev 20:13 "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death."

1 Tim 1:9-10 "realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers"

1 Cor 6:9 "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals"

Rom 1:26-27 "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error."

The bible teaches to hate the sin, not the sinner. Thats why we christians don't lash out in anger. We only try to help. True Christians don't down other people. If they do that is just pride. The bible is against that as well. I'm against the act of homosexuality, not against the person as a whole following that act. If you claim to be a christian and follow the bible, then you shouldn't have such desires after you discover it. God gives us free will because he wants US to love Him, not force us to love Him. If we follow God we are to confess and repent. Even if He is all knowing. This is just a step to help us grew in faith.

Not sure if any of this was already covered for I didn't read through all 35 pages. I just mostly read the beginning. Hope this may help for those that believe or want to believe.

So, lemme get this straight... Reading a book is suppost to make sexual desires disappear? I don't think you could apply that concept to just homosexual desires, it would have to be applied to "straight" sexual desires. Pfft... Pitch that to any teen with raging hormones; I'm sure they'll head straight to the nearest bookstore instead of the nearest pharmacy for some condoms.

I'm glad you cleared that up for me, though I just wish someone would have told me sooner. I would have asked my boyfriend for a Bible instead of a rabbit for when we talk on the phone while he's out of town...

Seriously, you can have desires all you want. I don't think that there are any priests or ministers that just stop thinking about sex as soon as they discover the Bible. Its about how you act - or don't act - on that desire.

absolutely love how you havent read the thread, and come in to repeat things that have already been argued over in order to issue the same stupid blanket statements using old testament passages that any "true christian" as you say should know are part of old hebrew law and not what jesus taught at all. Way to take the christ out of christian.

Pish, Christianity contradicts itself, how can a monothaeism worship a trinity?

and yes, I read the first few pages, then the last few.

In my oppinion, a flame about religeous beliefs are nearly as bad as a flame that popped up a while back purely titled "Black People" where one person flamed an entire race by one incident, this flame seems simelar but with religon in place of race.

Seriously, people are what they are, and there is no use changing.

And because you didn't read the thread, you didn't know that there is exactly one translation of the bible which includes the word "homosexuals" in those two phrases. That's 2/5 of your "biblical" evidence which is purely there because the translator was a fucking bigot.

Care to try again AFTER reading the thread?

The bible uses the term sodomites. Sodomite is another term for homosexual. Sodomite came from the city of Sodom near the dead sea. A city which was currupted. One of the "wickeness" of Sodom was man lusting after man. Which is where the term sodomites came from.

This was also covered in the thread... they were struck down because they were consumed by their lust, not necessarily because the lust was for other men. Re-read the scripture, it even says the problem was they were "burning with their lust" or something like that.

Read the bold... 1: Help me not make a mistake? uhhh It's not. Then you show this "hate the sin" and then show
they shall surely be put to death."

yeah sounds loving...

I was done with this thread till I saw that.. just STOP trying to justify something unjustifiable. Pushing your religion on others is WRONG.. ALWAYS.

I'm not pushing my religion on anybody. I'm just getting the word out and to prove a point. It's up to the person whether they believe or not. Put to death is what God did to punish the sodomites. To prove that He is against it. After sending Christ, this washed us of that sin. He can and did forgive us.

1 Timothy 1:15-16: "The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on Him and receive eternal life."

When Christ died for the sinners, he took a punishment that WE deserved so we wouldn't have to. Jesus never sinned, we did. Jesus is the one that got punished for it, showing us how much He loves us. He gave us an escape route from sin so that we will not be put to death . But to be saved you have to repent and of course accept Christ. We can't just run around sinning care free and expect to be forgiven. He only forgives if we turn away from sin.
