Well, I don't know about everything. But considering the circumstances, he is the best candidate within Soul Society denizens. He's virtually powerless, and so is his zanpakutou. But his insane brute strength and endurance would just steamroll Amagai with his fancy soul power nullifying bakkoutou.

i was also wondering about that strid and though how that would conflict with the plot as currently very few people know about ichigo's mask

i don't think it'll happen since that's a possible turning point in the main story, i highly doubt yamamoto will have a chance to see it i imagine him getting knocked out or horribly inconvenienced on seeing the fight...

or something lame like that

He can. He did it the first time. He just did it while everyone was busy fighting so nobody would notice. And the only reason he prefers not to use it is because he'd likely be yanked out of his position in the 11th to fill in as captain of one of the three squads lacking one.

Though why that applies to him but not Renji is a mystery. Probably because Renji has never actually really succeeded in a difficult fight when he Bankais, him being the series punching bag along with Chad.

dunno ikkaku got his ass kicked pretty handily before he finally wanted to use his bankai we aren't sure if ikkaku is done for yet although i was suprised that ikkaku lost his tower before the others did...
 
After talking to my gf about Ikkaku's possible defeat, we speculate that he probably didn't know his own strength and KO'd himself. The big boy opponent of his probably has some sort of power reflecting defense that caught Ikkaku off guard after he unloaded. You'll see, in typical Bleach style, Ikkaku will get up in the next story board, say something corny, then proceed to open a can of Bankai kick assery on that big guy. I refuse to acknowledge that these Arrancar/Espada can pwn Ikkaku!

Ikakku said he'd probably be yanked and made a vice-captain in another squad, so that's why Renji can stay where he is, I guess.
 
Well, under normal conditions yeah, he'd probably only be made #2. What with the Gotei 13 missing almost a fourth of their leaders, and considering he's a #3 bitching up opponents most of the #2s would get creamed by, he's captain material for sure.
 
He'll make a comeback...least I hope...they made Yumichika win, so he has to Blast something into that Arrancar.

It's filler. It's also "another story."

Meaning we have no idea when it happens canonically, but considering Los Muertos being popped off by Chad early on in the arc, it's well after Hueco Mundo. So for all we know, Yamamoto has known about Ichigo being a Vizard. Not to mention other captains have seen his hollow power in some form, such as Byakuya in the Rescue arc being assaulted by the hollow sentience when he almost defeated Ichigo, and Hitsugaya in the second movie fighting along side Ichigo with his mask on.

Even with the Byakuya instance being the only canon one so far, theres a pretty large chance he had reported to Yamamoto about the Hollow side of Ichigo. Plus Yamamoto being in command when the Vizards were Captains and Vice-Captains, I'm sure he'd be able to put two and two together.
 
speaking of which, was Ikkaku in the filler?
 
yeah, for like two seconds...he was fighting another Vice captain i believe.
