So I have a few questions and ideas about this battle.

Maat has the same stats that I have right? So if I lowered my MND as much as possible wouldn't that make his magic resistances weaker?

Possibly if I put on equip that made me weak to Ice then cast freeze on him, put on equip that made me weak to Darkness then elemental seal Sleep II (does Sleepga II work better?) then switched to equip that makes me weak to fire, cast flare then Make Myself weak to Water and cast Water IV...

Is this the way to do it? Does changing my resistances help at all?

What is the best way to level enfeebling magic aside from being a rdm?

What is the enfeebling magic cap for a blm at lvl 70? (Mine is 170ish)

Would it be stupid to try this fight at 68 (or 69, as I am about to level)?

Should I use Freeze then Flare? Flare then Flood?

Anyone have an Enfeebling Torque I can borow for the Fight? (i'll let you hold an astral ring for collateral)

Any special equipment I should take with me? MP is not a factor, I have enough to Cast 2 AM spells and then two Water IV spells with a Ranger Subjob.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance to anyone that helps :D

And screw you in advance to anyone that criticizes :-x

take equips off before entering, put them back on when inside use a blink band, use an apple pie+1, run till u get to en end of the hall not entering the arena, use manafont, cast firaga3 then sleep2, cast flare and hes done specially if you are a tarutaru wich gives u more dmg on magic.

this strategy have worked wonders for my friend that quit, a quick and easy battle he did it in 3 min .

hope it helps.

BLM Maat is pathetically easy. =D

I stopped to make a Manafont macro or I would have taken the record. =P

Flare > ES + Sleep II > Flood > Win

Edit: I'm Hume FYI, nailed him on the first try with that setup. Didn't even use food.

I didn't bother with -stats. I'm not sure he really takes on anything other than your base stats, but I went in nakked anyway because it can't hurt anything.

Im sure that if he does take on your stats, it doesn't change as you do, only when you first enter.

spam dia in an xp party. I want to say that at 70 that enfeebling capped around 205.

I don't think it's stupid, but I wanted till 70. That final magic attk up trait really makes a difference.

Yes. Start with freeze, not only because it does good damage, but it also weakens to fire, which will help with flare and firaga3 (if nec).

Grab a spider torque. Works just as well. You can buy it and turn around and resell when you are done. You might also want to keep it for future ele farming in sky.

Taru does have a slight advantage, but not because of damage, but I think HP. I saw several screenies, but I'll use daveman's fight for example. He and I both cast the same spells. I actually did 7 more total points of damage, but while his Maat died, mine was still at around 20-30%. I'm Hume, Daveman is taru.

I would recommend setting up and testing a special macro pallet ahead of time. I had a pallet laid out of everything I was going to do in the order that I was going to do it. Macro in elemental seal. Macro in every piece of enfeebling gear you have. I used AF coat, spider torque and dark staff. Go on darksday. I fought him twice (because I got cocky/stupid on the first one) and I had to attempt sleep four times. Between the gear, day, and capped skill, he never even thought about resisting me.

If he sleeps, take your time. He's sleeping for christ's sake. Don't go rushing to wake him. Take meds. Let spell timers cool down. I went in so over prepared the second time, that I never used manafont. Freeze >> EleSeal >> Sleep >> Hi-elixers >> Flare >> Sleep >> Hi-elixers >> Firaga3 >> firecracker.

Good luck!

1. As a Taru you probably won't need to Manafont, but it's nice to have available (so don't use before-hand).

2. All the advice about waiting til lv 70, macro'ing in the +enfeebling gear etc that is given above is good advice... follow it.

3. Don't panic if you lose. Win or loss is based more upon whether he resists critical spells than anything else. (ie. luck)

4. Last bit of advice you won't get elsewhere (and not my idea so I can't take credit for it): Buy a reraiser potion and use it after you enter. If you die you can re-raise > Manafont > {insert big damage spell here} for the win. I didn't know the potion would work in this BC fight, but I know a BLM that won because of it.

lmao, remembering the time I beat Maat makes me laugh much, I beat him with Firaga III but..... WITH WATER STAFF ON, lol, it weakens fire magic by 10%,

I was so nervous, I had casted Flood before than and I hate to macro too much gear on my BLM.

For the win, Flare > Elemental Seal + Sleep II > Flood > Tier II spell or something.

It's a lot easier nowadays since there's a lot of new gear, but back then it was only AF and maybe black cloak.

Im gonna go in one of these days and Thundaga III, Thunder IV him or something... I never fought him on BLM.

you can't, you get capped at 70

#1 advice: double check your macros in rolanberry fields :P

Don't take that lightly. It could save your life. I had a glitch in my #2 AM macro and didn't even realize it until after I got out. Don't know how I survived.

Anyway, equip your elemental staves with the corresponding spell, as usual. Really, this fight is a breeze. AM -> ES Sleepga -> AM -> TierIIIga -> /joy

The only piece of advice i can give you is: For the love of all thats good in the world, make sure you swap in your Dark Staff in for sleeps. I never had a problem with sleeps before so i never had a problem with it till I faced Maat. I got resisted 8 ways till Sunday before i finally used it, and it worked like a charm almost every time^^.

LMAO! Yeah, I remember when you were up against the old man. lol. Poor guy ; ;
