BLM Merits

Depending on what you do, capping out enfeebling magic first might be the best choice. If you solo a lot or find yourself casting a lot of sleepga's, the extra enfeebling skill can really pay off. You don't want to be one of those gimpy blms that can barely stick gravity on an exp mob.

For AM2, I originally chose 2 burst, 2 freeze, 1 tornado, 1 flare. I literally casted Flare once, and even then it was only for shits and giggles. I have never once wished I had Quake or Flood to cast, nor have I ever been on rdm and wished I had another blm to cast Quake to drop wind resistance. Tornado is mildly useful. If you do a lot of Kirin or Ouryu it probably wouldn't be a bad choice, but overall I'd say the best option is to do 3 Burst, 3 Freeze.

Lol, tbh, i hated teh -enmity merits :/ it made soloing really aggrivating. If i was consistaly casting on the mob, it would lose hate and despawn, and then I just wasted 300+ mp for jack shit D:

That isn't -ENM, that's just poorly programmed mobs.

Hey Myu, this is what i'm doing for this:

~Maxing out Burst II and Freeze II.
~Max MP Merits
~Meriting Elemental, & Enfeeblings skill
~Maxing out Thunder/Ice Potency

From what I've asked other BLM's this seems to be the most effective way to Merit BLM. If you're gna make BLM you're main job, you could probably mess with meriting INT but that's alotta work and merits.

Just not in that order.

  1. Elemental
  2. Burst II and Freeze II
  3. Thunder Potency, Ice Potency
  4. Enfeebling
  5. MP
  6. INT/Enmity

I love how so many people who don't have BLM lvl'd that far are giving their opinions.

Merit in this order:

Elemental
Burstx1
Freezex1
Thunder Potency
Ice Potency
Enfeebling
Burstx2
Freezex2
MP
INT

K, bye.

this list is win.

That's right jerk, cannon with me sometime. My buffer is dwindling.

Oh yea and what you merit depends on what you want to end up doing in the end (spell wise).

Elemental skill, INT, Thunder pot and Ice pot are a must though.

I agree with Shyrra...

I think a kitten just died somewhere because of that comment. D=

Honestly I think INT is totally optional for some people and dependant on race, possible jobs to be level'd, and time. Just my opinion though furball =P.

We can't all be short fat tarus.

If you solo/duo, etc. at all, enfeebling would be far more beneficial. dark magic is kind of lol.

meh I think you're right capped drk thinking it would be hot shit theres no difference. maybe someday I'll change it

AMII's don't matter all that much. Just do what you want. It might be a good idea to save them for last. Wait till you see what sort of stuff you find yourself doing. Going 3/3 Freeze/Burst is a waste if you aren't magic bursting. In that case going for all six spells is the better option. Magic Bursting is hardly a widespread phenomenon, but in some circles it still happens. Regardless, whether you cap two or grab all six, noone will care. If you want to know what I'm doing, for what it matters, I'm getting all six. I like the idea of feeling versatile. As for all your other merits, just do what everyone else posted. I'm not following that merit format, but everyone else should. I have special plans for my blm, and I don't do endgame or anything of relevance, so any deviation from the norm isn't at anyone's expense. If my presence as a blm actually mattered, I'd follow the cookie-cutter chart as well.

I wouldn't say that. I often do use freeze2 (burst2 depending on weather) in soloing. Thunder4/blizz4 aren't always up.

edit: sorry, didn't read the "3" part.

In the same vein of this thread, I'd like to ask a similar question.

If you were only to invest, say, 10ish merit points into BLM, where would you focus them? I just got BLM to 75 and started putting my available merits into it, but since I have other jobs I'm meriting for, I want to have my BLM get the best bang for the buck when investing merits. Currently, I have Freeze II. Where to put the rest? Thanks in advance.

It depends on what you use BLM for and how it's used. Is it for soloing/duoing? In that case, what type of mobs? It matters whether it's exp mobs or NM/HNMs. Or end game events? Dynamis, Limbus, Sky, Sea, wyrms, kings, etc.

In a general sense, I would look at how your damage output is. If you use a lot of enfeebling which BLM only have an unmeritted skill of 230, I would look into get some merits into that (mainly applies to solo/duo). I would only do that after getting several key enfeebling pieces (Iqgira Head, legs, AF body and torque) to avoid "wasting" a merit on something that can be decently compensated for by gear. If you don't enfeeble at all or not really an issue, just ignore it for the time being. Are your nukes resisted quite often or if you do resist, will it be an issue? If so, you should consider getting merits into elemental skill then. These are probably the most important merits available for end game activities and to parallel melees, "attack and STR are useless if you just plain miss". Well the same goes for BLM, meritting AMII or Potency is useless if you get resisted.

After you do those two meritted decently, I would get potency merits and then AMII followed by possibly MP. If you do kings, I would get at least 1 AMII merit into Burst II for Faf, but you can do without it for awhile, Thunder IV worked pre-tier II merits, it should be enough now. I leave INT, MP, Spell interruption and enm merits up to you since those can possibly conflict with other job choices, but they are still great options if you have spare merits you are sitting on. In my personal opinion, if you use BLM for solo, get a few enfeebles (grav/sleep) and then elemental/potency. If you do end game, Elemental skill > potency > AMII and then fill in the rest.

Just because someone doesn't have a certain job at 75 doesn't mean they can't give feedback, y'know? =P

All the same we're all just posting suggestions; For all we know the OP might go 3 Flare II + 3 Quake II >_>
