Blue Mage Compilation(Setups, Gear, Etc.)

mhmm okay thanks, but what about the idea of splitting job abilities to increase my DoT on /thf

Is it better to dump them all on one shot (read: usual CA>ws>SA>TA>spell combo)

or use them individually to do more damage, if it will?

and lastly if TA as a sub only transfers hate to TA target then that means it doesnt increase damage subbed? or is it only a minor bit?

I"m woozy going to bed now thanks for the responses

The problem I had with stacking SA with TA is that, first you have to get a competant tank, and first voker, then you have to be really fast at it. It's harder then setting up SATA on THF, because of the extra JA in there (CA). What I did, due to a suggestion I found on this forum, was split them when I hit 63, doing CASA > Death Scissors, and TA > Frenetic Rip. For the latter, I put more into acc then DEX and STR because my dmg varied too much w/o the extra acc (I did find AF body to be best for this combo though, too much boost to the spell's dmg to not use). You need the TA to do at least 1/3-1/2 the dmg you CASA does, otherwise it will be nearly useless for keeping hate off you and on the tank. One thing to remember, when only using TA, only use high dmg multi-hit spells (both Frenetic Rip and Disseverment do very well for me), to decrease the chances of the spell missing. Also remembering what dmg type they are (H2h, slashing, etc) helps you with dmg too.

To the question on a dmg boost, I don't think it's supposed to, but sometimes it seems like I do get a boost in dmg from TA (might just be the setup I have for it, since I don't always swap it in for normal spell use). Go out and try different things out for yourself, many BLU's differ on how they play the job, but the good ones always seem to make the job amazing.

If you *can* set it up, SATACA is a big blast of damage onto someone else's hate. But as Ewok already pointed out, it's even more of a lining up nuisance (and initial voker getting hit nuisance) than SATA alone already was. And most people can tell you that SATA alone is already hateful enough unless initial voker, tank, and THF are all *really* good at lining up and pulling it off quickly.

So yeah, I'd second Ewok's suggestion: TA some spell that works well without CA and SA (stuff like FR, HB, Disseverment - though by Disseverment's level, probably best to go back to /NIN due to hate-shifting parties), then SACA some beefy one-hitter that *does* shine with CA and SA (Death Scissors, etc.).

Personally I'm not a big believer in going BLU/THF before 60, though it works with a single (and good) tank, if you're careful about your hate. Especially if you pre-merit the job with sword/crit (and maybe str) merits, and gear up well, stealing hate is very easy to do. Before the advent of TA, I consider BLU/NIN to be a safer bet, more independent of party setup and tank quality.

However, to each their own, and so long as you don't become an MP sink, and so long as your overall damage output is good, use whichever sub works better for you.

The reason I have used thf in a regular exp pt is because at low lvs I really have no faith in tanks, unless I know the player, so I usually setup myself to tank the mob with cocoon which works pretty well with /thf

Sneak Attack>Jet Stream mob

Stun>heal myself>switch to bludgeon gear and cast and keep hate

I also get the more dex bonus and the pilferer earring is very helpful since there is little stat increase gear in earrings at my lv. the evasion bonus has helped as well. It's only a problem with multiple hard hitting dds like sam which easily out damage me.

I havent used /nin because I've found that the dex and agi bonuses are decent but arent as high as /thf

If I were to use /nin then I would be using two swords which means I should be prioritizing regular dd gear over the stat+ gear which isnt bad, since equip swaps and all however I'm still finding that in order to make the most of nin I need the higher level hidden job traits such as acc bonus store tp(which i need rajas to make it decent) and such

all I have is Battle Dance>Uppercut which is attack bonus and defense bonus from Grand Slam> something which is useless since it's fairly hard to do enough damage as /nin to get hate on you which means wasted shadows.

I feel when you choose /thf you are more concerned about spell damage rather than melee with sword and with /nin you are geared for attacking with swords mostly and using less spells to keep up a chain(which is common sense but I think I should reitnerate(sp?)). I also feel that the subjob also reflects the damage output for the reason it's equipped ie /thf for spells and /nin for swords. Even if you have good gear for both melee and spell stat enhancers.

I was in a 4 blu pt well a lolalliance that actually did OK but just OK on exp, hate only bounced because the tank was having a hard time keeping hate off of the 6 blus and drk. I really wanted to see how I would do against a blu/nin vs my blu/thf, it was pretty interesting.

Well whether you're BLU/THF or BLU/NIN, you should be geared up so that your sword (and WS) damage is still good in between spells. With either sub, you use regular DD gear for TP'ing and macro in STR, acc as needed, and whatever other stat mods, for WS and spells.

hey miros move me to the blue mage section;)!

i occasionally bump this thread from time to time to keep info current and have different questions as I level the job further on

I'm curious as to spell sets for blu in Nyzul

as 75 blu i tend to use:
headbut
drainkiss
auto refresh spells
conserve mp spells
acc bonus spells
magic fruit
my dmg spells are:
frenetic rip
dissevernment
cannonball (campaign)
if /thf
death scissors

multiple gear sets
str and acc gear for self sc
eva gear when pulling hate
haste gear fulltime use of other gear is situational

weapons of choice atm
mainhand: adaman kilj
offhand: ifrit's sword

a little problem I wont have to deal with yet, but I'll run into eventually

sword dps vs sword stats

I know that blue spells make up most of our dot, but should we equip swords to maximize our spells at the cost of using something inferior. Saying this with a decent blu already having equip swaps for spells,tp,ws,etc. btw

I could see this on doing major spike damage but I'm inclined to using the best swords available Dps wise. like using a simple anelace instead of using the ifrit's sword(also assuming there are the slayer swords available).

This isn't really a question directed to if money is a factor but of what's really best overall sans a few specific situations.

bump did anyone know?

I used perdu hanger/ifirit's for a long while. Commonly, I believe most prefer perdu hanger/" " slayer. Grab a group that can do the qiqrn znm, and it can drop the Beastslayer (free slayer sword). I think it is a personal choice whether you go for stats or DPS. Also, I used martial anelace for a while, because Savage Blade's dmg is effected by tp, but I noticed little to no difference from it.

Hey need a little help on gear, I've pretty much have in my head how to upgrade my gear as I go but was looking for some insight on acc I'd need from 60~75. I haven't really had any acc issues since I've been using bream sushi some shots of my tp and spell casting gear.

I've been wsing in tp gear since I've yet to get a working parser to make sure my vorpal hits land then switch out to str for death scissors

in campaign so i'm just eating regular meat bobs, obvious stuff I know I need to buy are chiv chain, sh, sun ring, potent belt, and get a swift belt.

Gear I have for future upgrades

Swords- WightSlayer
Head- W. Turban Relic Head(casting spells?)
Body- Assault Jerkin, Mirage Jubbah
Hands- Cobra hands
Legs- Mirage legs
Feet- Dusk. cobra feet
Earrings- Suppanomi 2 x Coral
waist- warwolf belt
back- amemet(nq >,>) smilodon mantle+ 1

I'm not really sure if i'm overloading on acc or if i need more still...do I get a sh until Assault Jerkin or will it be fine since I can set accuracy bonus when I get Frentic Rip at 63? I'm aiming to get enough acc to eat meat on mobs.

Is it ok to tp in rajas?

forgot to mention 2 Sword Merits atm and 2 Crit merits

tp (meat bob active)

img_20090306_172647.png

neck is merman's gorget

img_20090306_172712.png

hands is pallas

thanks ahead of time lol, bit new to melee jobs but want an honest opinion here

From everything I've researched, gigas bracers! ie: Pallas, Alkyoneus(sp?) are really bad for Frenetic Rip, Hysteric Barrage, and Disseverment, not only do you lose accuracy for them, but DEX is also a modifier as well.

Find the next best piece you have access to with STR and/or accuracy and use that instead.

Not to say Pallas/Alky's are useless. But normally just good for spells you would /thf for.

Assault Jerkin is strictly a weapon skill piece, TP in SH untill your high enough for AF2 Body.

My BLU is 70 and I have my setup mostly decided, minus a few slots. When I hit 75 gonna go with:

TP:

Weapons: Perdu Hanger/Koggelmander
Ammo: Tiphia Sting
Head: Walhara Turban
Neck: Peacock Charm
Ears: Brutal Earring/Magnetic Earring (I'm somewhat gimped here, my choices are limited >_<)
Body: Mirage Jubbah
Hands: Homam Manapolos
Ring:Woodman's Ring/ Blood Ring
Back: Forager's Mantle or Mirage Mantle(undecided yet, I'll see how my accuracy is)
Waist: Swift Belt
Legs: Denali Kecks
Feet: Denali Gamashes

Big 3 Gear:

Weapons: Perdu Hanger/Koggelmander
Ammo: Tiphia Sting
Head: Mirage Keffiyah
Neck: Peacock Charm or Kubira Bead Necklace (undecided)
Ears: Brutal Earring/Magnetic Earring until I can get 2 STR Earrings.
Body: Magus Jubbah
Hands: Enkidu's Mittens
Ring:Woodman's Ring/ Blood Ring or 2x Flame Rings (undecided)
Back: Forager's Mantle or Mirage Mantle(undecided yet, I'll see how my accuracy is)
Waist: Warwolf Belt
Legs: Enkidu Subligar
Feet: Denali Gamashes

That's what I'm planning to use once I get my last 5 levels based off what I've read.

thing is my best str piece is light gauntlets(str +3)

pallas is +9 str but -5 dex

i have extra dex in my setup the extra dex should cover it since it's a trade for +6 str but -5dex as opposed to just +3

I don't know about the spells side of things, but from a melee perspective you can never have too much accuracy especially with a 1 handed weapon. Ideally you want to TP in an accuracy ring over Rajas assuming the STP doesn't get you to 100% one or more attack rounds faster, Suppa is a great earring for blu and Brutal on the other ear, both good for TP and WS.

@ Wak, I'd be tempted to TP in Enkidu legs over Denali until you get Homam.

Yeah, Light Gauntlets are a pretty common piece for BLU from what I read, I SHOULD use then until I can equip Enkidu, but I'm being cheap til I ding into Enkidu.

Your losing 6 STR, but gaining 5 DEX, DEX is also a Modifier for the Big 3, same as STR. But accuracy is always an issue on multi-hits. Overall, the Light Gauntlets would do more for you than Pallas.

Naw, Only Acc Enkidu has is from the 4 DEX, yes Denali are somewhat weak for TP, which is why I have been looking at other options like Cobra Legs. Or maybe even the Volunteer's Brais. But not Enkidu.

Ah, I'd forgotten there was accuracy on Denali tbh, I just know when i looked at the stats the first time I thought they were useless lol. Obviously they have a few uses for COR or BLU but I'm sure there's many better options out there for TP.

Denali Kecks are very versatile piece. 3 DEX, 3 Acc for TP is just 1 less than the accuracy given by Cobra Unit Subligar, or 2 less than the Volunteer's Brais. So it's a nice tide over piece until I can get one of them.

The issue with Volunteer's Brais is I really don't want to spend Imperial Standing for them. I have about 80k, and already need to burn 40k on Perdu Hanger. I like to keep a steady reserve though for Salvage, being able to get your Imp Gold pieces straight from the NPC is really nice.

I have 8/8 swordmerits. Now my thoughts on upgrades.

Obviously i will need Homam hands and legs to. I currently have no job that can equip Homam, so gathering has been slow, but pending on what drops on sunday i might have them both. I would also need Fortitude torque. This may provide to be a bitch, cause the droprate is so random. I would naturally like to get a Koggelmander aswell, but it seems a bit luckbased, but maybe i'll get lucky. After that i think im fairly happy with my TP-set.

WS & Big 3 stills needs some work tho. Morrigan's head seems to be my best bet for head. I havent researched to much, but it looks like the case.

Body is fine. I would like Morrigans cause im thinking its better to melee in that then Mirage when i need mp, but Enkidu is better for pure melee and ws. Af1+1 should be best for Big 3.

Back is fine, i dont think there is anything better to get.

Hands im thinking Enkidu's for both melee and ws. I have a trigger for it currently, so maybe with some luck. But the trigger is fairly easy to solo, so it shouldnt be a problem. Denali hands doesnt seem to bad, but Enkidus should be better. I dont wanna use Gigas bracelets for ws or Big 3.

Waist im debating if Warwolf is worth it in any case.

Rings and earrings should be fine, i dont think i need to focus at all on those.

Would like some input on legs. I think Enkidus is the best piece for both ws and big 3, but i might have missed something.

Feet is really a pain to. It looks like i would need Denali feet, and droprate seems to be abysmal. I guess rutters could work, but i dont wanna settle with that.

Ammo is also sorta crap. I guess str+2 is ok for big 3 and ws. But the best i can find for tp is White tathlum... wich really isnt that great. Any ideas there?

Long post i know. But i wanna perfect my BLU.
