Hey guys,

I am a little confused about something. I seem to remember in FFX that fire spells pretty much cured bombs. I am fighting bombs at the moment using ice spells and what not but I have read and been told they are weak to fire. I don't understand why if they are a fire based entity.

Can anyone explain this to me please?

My understanding of the element table is a bit rusty but I never thought fire was weak to fire.

EDIT: Might it be that they are linked with Undead, which are weak to fire?

Thankiee x

Bombs ARE fire based, but they are also arcana. All arcana mobs are weak to fire, so therefore they are weak to fire despite being fire based mobs.

idk, bombs usually have some kinda flamable stuff in em, makes sense to me. They just changed em to not be on fire anymore.

Kage's right, its the mobs type that determines its elemental weakness(es). I think arcana are weak to light as well.

I thought that was weird too..in the older FF games, bombs were weak to fire too, in FFV and FFIV i believe.

in the older ones they were weak to ice

in ffxi they are only weak to fire even though they are fire based

just like bats in this game are semi dark and wind based but are weak against wind light

BQ ring is fire def -75... lil giveaway lol

ya, in prev FF's ice or water was usually the key.

I really hate when people come up with that reasoning. They aren't called bombs because they're flammable. They're called Bombs because they blow up. There are many things that explode that don't require flames of any sort, such as chemicals, and materials under a lot of pressure/stress.

And Bombs are on fire. Sort of. You can see graphical distortion(representing heat) and smoke coming from the top of them.

In the past, they were also generally found in places where theres a lot of heat, such as deserts, and lava-filled caves.

I kind of like to think of it as fire increases the temperature of a bomb, which the bomb doesn't like. When they blow up they shake furiously, almost as if their temperature is rising at a rapid pace.

And yet, they're all over Ifrit's Cauldron, Halvung, and Mt. Zhayolm. Volcanic areas.

As for shaking, they do the same thing when using Berserk, Magic, and other abilities if applicable(NMs, Snolls, Clusters.)

umm, why do you hate it? You cant say anything else is ctually right unless you get SE to say why they do it you know, its all just speculation until then.

And btw, the bombs on FFXI arent on fire. Ya, they have heat waves, but wheres the fire?

Direct contact with fire would cause more temperature rising than indirect.

Did you just ignore the fact that they billow out smoke too?

http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/5832 Key Word: Molten. While not exactly fire, it's still extremely hot.

It would be pretty logical to assume bomb cores follow the same idea.. But really, the reason why your idea that Bombs are flammable is wrong, is because of where they're found. I know if I was flammable, I wouldn't freely live in volcanic areas, or by open flame lanterns.

Self-Destruct is the core exploding, caused by tension from the battle

umm, its a game, nothin is really gonna make a lot of logical sense, you know. In fact, floating bombs dont, so how does anyone know where theyre going to be hanging out?

And can ya please stop getting your panties in a bunch, wtf is with people getting offended, hurt, w/e lately because I simply disagree with them, then they go off throwin a hissy fit.

seriously wtf

So the fact that they have a molten core has no bearring on them being flammable or not? I mean, it makes logical sense to me that bombs wouldn't be flammable because of that. And their locations.

Regardless of it being a game or not, saying it doesn't make sense is just being ignorant, when theres obvious reasons to draw that it does. We have enough evidence and lore to state that they aren't flammable, yet people still want to say they are. Sure does sound smart to me to make those kinds of claims.

It's sort of like a religious vs. scientific kind of ignorance. "The sky is blue because God wills it so." "No, it's blue because of light refracting from the water particles." "Particles don't make a lot of sense, so how does anyone know why it's blue?"

In reply to the bold: Okay, lets say Cockatrice were real animals. How do they get inside Garlaige? Cuz theres definitely a NM cockatrice in there. How do Pugils, which are fish, float above land? These things that make absolutely no sense whatsoever are in the game, so how am I being ignorant?

In regards to the last paragraph, youre kind of contradicting yourself. If youre religious, you would know God created everything, from light refracting to light displacement in the ocean, and saying "No, it's blue because of light refracting from the water particles" doesnt prove the religious people wrong. Basically, both responses are the same, theyre just worded differently to back what that person believes in

This might be a longshot, but perhaps Skewer Sam simply walked in? What a rocket science problem right there. How does any creature, real or otherwise, inhabit a location? Duh.

How do Pugils, which are fish, float above land?

Mudskippers can go on land. Dolphins and Whales are fish-like mammals, they can survive out of water due to breathing air. If they can avoid the other problems associated with it, such as drying up. There are even Flying Fish, which can glide. And before you try and say "But Pugils are fish, not mammals," they aren't classified as fish. They are classified as Aquans, which could be any water inhabitant, including mammals, and even amphibians.

These things that make absolutely no sense whatsoever are in the game, so how am I being ignorant?

They do, and you are.

And yet, religious people claim it's playing god to clone. Yet wouldn't it be Gods Will for us to clone since it's possible in the first place?

Let's not argue authenticity in a game where you can shoot fireballs at a race of walking intelligent birds.
