/comfort Yomi - I had a really really scary experience like that too - in my parent's old basement.
It happened like 10 years ago - but I am still completely scarred for life.
I almost think it would have been worse if it hadn't been EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. My room was more or less a safe zone, when the door was shut, the creepy feelings stopped. But throughout the rest of that house...
It doesn't help that our house was the ONLY one on the street when we moved in, and already 10-15 years old by then...
For me it was more of a gradual thing...
My mom had, just had my little sister - so the room situation in the house was slim. I decided - as the oldest sibling, that I would move into the basement...which promised for more privacy, something every teen desires - right?
ANYWAY first it was just little things that were easily blown off. Like for some reason the light and the television wouldn't work for me. Everyone else could turn them on fine - but when it was me, I would flip the switch - or turn the knob...and I would get flickering lights (that would eventually turn themselves off) or just static on the tv. It was annoying, but I wasn't freaking out about it.
One night I got home late...and it was storming outside. Storms didn't bother me, I had always loved them. <3 So I got into bed and lied there awake, listening to the rain and thinking about the night's events. Then, the lightning cracked - must have been close, because it lit up the whole room. That was when I noticed a figure standing infront of the glass double doors (which I had locked earlier that evening). I was shocked for a sec, then figured that I must be half asleep or something - so I rolled over to face the wall and tried to go to sleep (hoping that it would go away). A few seconds later I felt something sit beside me on the bed. The sheets got tight, and I began to start to freak a bit. I tried to ignore it, then thought that I was being silly...and slowly rolled again. There was no one sitting beside me - but there was an imprint on the bed - a spot where the blanket was weighed down - a spot that I was not touching. I looked up and saw what seemed to be a figure darting across the room.
This is when I panicked. I got up and ran over to the light switch - which wouldn't even flicker for me at this point - it just didn't turn on. I didn't want to run up the stairs, because that was where I thought I saw the figure go, so I ran into the laundry rom and tried to find the pull string to the light in there (I had never had problems with that light) I searched for hat seemed like an eternity - which was odd, since this was the light that worked for me - I knew EXACTLY where it was inthe dark - but couldn't find it. I heard a noise and ran back out, about to dart up the steps...and instinctively flipped the light switch for one last try. It turned on. For the first time in 3 monthes, the damned light switch (which 5 minutes prior would not work for me) turned on.
My heart was pounding, I noticed that there was nothing on the steps, so I turned around to look and see where the hell the pull string to the light in the laundry room was - I looked in there, and it was out of my reach - and (I shit you NOT)
tied into the shape of a freaking NOOSE>
I ran upstairs and slept on my sister's floor.
The next morning, my parents (who thought I was nuts) went downstairs with me to find a puddle infont of the (still locked) glass doors - and wet spots on the surrounding carpet.
They still think I am crazy - and that wasn;t the only creepy thing to ever have happened to me...but that was the only time I thought I was having a heart attack.
