Has anyone else been following this? I haven't seen any mention of it on QCDN, but I could just be blind. (Wouldn't surprise me if I missed something.)

In the case there actually hasn't been anything: this is a game much like Fallout 3, only more FPS elements. It's actually being called a RPS (Role Playing Shooter) as it carries all of the elements of Action RPGs (classes with different skill trees, levels, weapon proficiencies), but the game is played as a First Person Shooter.
It is being released for PS3, 360 and PC. Unfortunately, the servers will not be crossed.

The main selling point at this rate is the loot system. There are confirmed to be 16.7 million guns (the number might be higher, I haven't checked as yet) in the game, all functioning and looking differently.
The developers (GearBox) programmed an AI to spit out different guns at set parameters and limits as loot, on top of the grenades and shields.

Unfortunately character customization is fairly limited, with the 4 different characters (each representing a class) and colour variations.

Finally, GearBox has been releasing a web series following the character Claptrap and the development of Borderlands. (Note: Probably not worksafe. GearBox warned viewers with "Warning: rated M for mature".)

So yeah, just wondering if I'll be seeing anyone else running around with an acid shotgun, or maybe a lightning pistol?

I've been following it :D I can't wat, god I need to find a job >< Assassin's Creed 2, Borderlands, etc.. so many things I want

Yeah, I've had this pre-ordered for a while now. I'm pretty stoked about it.

Three of my friends actually worked on the game, I'm definitely getting it to see what they've been talking about.

One thing that's really bad ass, that hasn't been as heavily advertised as the near infinite amount of guns, is they use the same random generation system for monsters. You might run into a group of lizards or something, but one might breathe fire, one spits poison, one's got armored skin, one's extra fast, or whatever. That'll definitely keep things from getting stale after a certain point, when you don't know exactly what every monster can do as soon as you see them.

Ah yes. That is a great aspect actually. It should definately keep things interesting.
Claptrap mentioned this...just before he got mauled.

By the way, what platform are you all planning on getting this for?
I've already hooked 4 friends into getting it for PS3, so I guess that'll be my system of choice.

I'm probably going to go for the PC version. I want to be able to play with my roommate, but we'd need to play on PC since you can't play cross-platform.

I wish my schedule had allowed for me to focus test this; another friend of mine got to do that and loved the game.

how Diablo :) but nothing wrong with that :P but I imagine it's for all monsters where as Diablo's was more just the "special monsters"

No, no. Their are boss mobs in Borderlands. With bosses their has to be special lewtz!

The game went gold today so here's to not gettin' another push-back on the release date!

I'm so damn ready for this game to come out already, I feel like I did in my younger years about Christmas. I know the game will be fine as is but the overall energy the Gearbox crew resonates I'm expecting, through DLC, this game to be fresh for a long, long time. The only thing I don't like about it is that PvP is all friends based, as in you can only have 4 people PvP and they have to be invited into the same world to do so. If they add a 4v4 PvP system later on I don't think you'd find me playing any other games, ever.

it went gold? already? wow hehe. I want it so :(

I sense from the "already" you're thinkin' when a game goes gold it is the same as a record (500k sales). When a game goes gold it means the master copy of the game has been sent off for mass production.

oh I see, that's something I never knew (or bothered to learn) before lol. That's good then. (but doesn't make sense to me cause previous games I've played they later came out with "gold editions" O.o like Gothic 2)

looks very cool, but what concerns me is watching my fps drop the busier things get on the screen

Worried about it in terms of the 360, PS3, or PC?

Ele, what happens is after the game is deemed a "best seller" they'll just slap a fancy tab on the box to whatever fits their desires "best seller", "gold edition", "greatest hits", etc (I assume). I assure you though, when a game officially goes gold it just means the master copy has been sent off to be copied for the public.

Ps3, it even happens with FO3 sometimes, especially in the expansions.

I was gonna say, it's a problem I have on the PS3 with some games but only UT3, Gears 2, and Last Remnant (basically any game that uses the Unreal 3 engine for some reason...) on my 360. However, I wouldn't suggest using FO3 as a benchmark for how games on the PS3 perform FPS wise. That game is a total mess on the PS3 compared to the other versions. They totally half-assed the port. MGS4, CoD 4 and 5, Quantum of Solace, Socom, and Uncharted 2 all handle very well on the PS3 in my opinion and can get pretty intense MP wise. I'd use Battlefield: Bad Company personally, as it gets insanely intense. It runs great on the PS3. However, I don't think it's about the system as much as how well the developers make the game. You could check out reviews and stuff on other Gearbox PS3 releases and see how they handle.

Oh I see, I didn't know that :P thanks for informing me :)

Heads up to anyone in Canada: Both Best Buy and Wal-Mart are selling the game this Tuesday for $40.

I have my pre-order at EB still (just incase I can't get it at either of the above listed places), but I'll be cancelling it if I pick up a $40 copy instead. (I just phoned them, they're willing to do this.)

EB is still charging their normal $70 (unwilling to price match), but if you trade in 3 games of a certain value or above, they'll give you Borderlands for free.

So yeah, just figured that some people in Canada may want to pick the game up for nearly half price.

got my hands on this, i'm an hour in - very fun game, reminds me of a cross between diablo and fallout 3. haven't used the "powers" much but i'm only lvl 7 and just got em (mage has "phasewalk".. everything slows down and you can regen life). very cool game, lots of weapons - haven't checked out online or co op yet tho.
