Bots getting through...kinda

I recieved a PM just now as logging in and i thought, "Oh cool! Someone actually wants to talk to me." Alas, it was from a perma-banned account talking to me about buddhism. Obviously a bot.

My question:

Has this happened to anyone else? Are bots starting to get smarter? There probably isn't a way of stopping it, since its PMing, but just curious.
