I remember there being a number of hiv-infected syringe attacks in Toronto not too many years ago.HIV-positive man charge in sexual assault on child
Peel police have issued a public safety advisory and are urging victims to come forward after an HIV-positive Brampton man was arrested and charged in the sexual assault of a child.
Police say 32-year-old James Junior Udokang has known about his HIV-positive status for about five years. He was arrested Monday after allegedly sexually assaulting a child.
The child is now at risk of contracting the virus, police say.
Investigators say Udokang may have had sex with several adult women without disclosing his status to them, and are urging anyone who may have had intimate contact with him to call police immediately and to seek medical attention.
Police would not comment on whether Udokang, who is already charged with aggravated sexual assault and sexual interference, would be facing attempted murder charges for allegedly exposing the child and the adult women in question to the deadly virus.
In an unprecedented case in April, a Hamilton man was found guilty of first-degree murder after causing the deaths of two women by spreading HIV.
"The potential is there, but we have to consult the Crown's office prior to laying that charge, when and if other victims come forward, that will be taken into consideration," said Const. Wayne Patterson.
