BRD - A very complex job. Why play it if you can't?

brds mnk wars nins 1-75 in 2 months easy u just need to know what to do when exping heck i am trying my war at speed lving

Bards are a job everyone wants to have in their party (generally) once they hit 25.

It's one of those jobs where it doesn't matter how bad you play it, there's always going to be somebody who will tolerate your terrible play style.

It happened with Rangers, whms, rdms...and monks. I'm sure plds and nins are up there as everyone always needs a tank.

My point is, just because one job can cannon well in an area doesn't mean another can. *shrug*
There's better places for BLMs to cannon at, if they choose to try to in KRT they're dumb..

The discussion was currently about KRT, which is why I responded how I did.
If you read where you post, maybe next time you will save us all some time.

BRD is a really easy job, it just involves alot of thinking ahead thusfar. I have had access to, but just chosen not to use the distance plugin on my windower. It's one of those things that I fear I would get too anal about and spend too much time adjusting myself when I need to just be singing the song. I may try it out one day, but so far I rarely miss my targets and can split my melees and mages and tanks pretty effectively without hitting somone with the wrong spell ~95% of the time.

good end game bards are becoming so rare its sad, maybe 1/10 have any skill at all at 75...is it too much to ask for the mobs to be slept right next to you and kill them like an assmbly line and still have buffs 90% of the time? XD

And <3 Stouter...one of the best bards I exped with in a long time, chain 25 with 5 ppl 4tw...that was how a bard should be played >.>

speed exp is really gay, it isn't fun and usually is boring to do.

if you get a job 1-75 in under 2 months you need to ask yourself why exactly you're spending so much time on FFXI

if you're one of the players that actually puts thought into what they do on the game, then you can be a good BRD. hell, you can't really be good at any job unless you do that.

exactly. I mean, come on, think about your jobs and how you can benefit your party the most, otherwise your just an empty space that is completely worthless. Earn your position in a party....what pisses me off the most is people who just lay back and don't pay attention to what they're doing...

Your sig says you're a 38 bard, so you have it extremely easy. All you have is 3 essential buffs and finale as needed, plus backup curing. You're about to get elegy, which you should try to land on a mob asap. After 55 you'll have ballad II, which takes a decent chunk of your free time away. I started pulling as brd around 70, but it's possible to pull as brd before then in the right situations. Until you've pulled as brd, you have no idea what busy is.

I think before anyone starts bard they should level a tank, mage, and melee job to 50, because 90% of a bard's job is knowing what to do, and how to prioritize it. It's hard to understand how much elegy helps out until you've played a tank job with a brd. It's hard to understand how important finale is until you've played a melee job and seen a scissor guard or secretion. And of course, you'll need to know how to backup cure (the one thing I really suck at) and know how important it is to keep ballad on the mages. To play bard you need to understand the party, and the battle. You will rarely find someone that can do this on their first job past 30. This is why most bards suck.

AMEN! You're officially my hero. 1/5 BRDs that knows his sh*t. This is what I'm talking about. I'm not a BRD, but I know when they play their role. Goddamn, everyone knows when other job is not being played to benefit the pt as a whole.

What's really f*cked up, is people who don't give a damn about THEIR own job, and play very important roles as level 10 n00bs.

You tell these BRDs Stouter ^^b

^.^ you're sooooo my hero as a brd lol It's my fav job and class >.< and God does it piss me off when i pt as another job with a lazy brd. TO NO END it pisses me off. >.< i swear the next pt i get in with a brd that only casts ballad and minuet on the WHOLE PT i'm gonna kick their butts. T.T is it so hard to ask that a sam gets madrigal?

I agree with Stouter. There are some things that you don't understand unless you've walked a mile in their moccosins. I can't fault some bards for "not knowing what they don't know" Asking someone to have the broad understanding of jobs, battle variables, and pay attention to the things that "don't go as planned" is a tall order. At 72, I feel like I am still getting comfortable as a bard. I've been lucky to have the mentorship of a few good bards, and some very compassionate party members who were willing to explain "the why" of why I should do certain things.

To the OP, I'm sorry that you had to party with a crappy bard. There are too few of us to start to throw lame ducks into the mix. If a bard is in your party, and they are willing to learn, I encourage all of you to take the time to pass on your wisdom. As bards, we don't see other bards in the party, so alot of what we do is learned from trial and error. This method of "success through failure" is a hard way to learn, but I guess we all do that with our jobs. Maybe that's the reason the 'Dunes suck so much... :D

If it takes you some massive amount of time to read one additional sentance, off-topic or not, then you really shouldn't be reading stuff on a bulletin board.
I misinterpreted some posts, which made me own post totally pointless. Good for me, I'm not some steeple of perfection and understanding. If you wanna make some huge deal over it, then I feel sorry for you. (By the way, the discussion of MNK cannon > BLM cannon in KRT was off-topic anyways..and you're getting pissy that my comment was off-topic? Nice.)

All I can say about the actual topic is if the person sucks at their job, why not just kick them? If they were so bad at their job, not having them shouldn't impact xp at all and getting someone else that's even half-competent should make the xp at least a little better.
