I've met another FFXI player while deployed who just recently made it to DRG 75. Like I was back when I first made the level, he's been rather focused on getting the good buyable gear and just exping. Save for a little bit of dynamis and a burning desire to get the relic polearm, he's brand new to endgame and doesn't quite know all that it has to offer.

I can point him in the right direction, but I'm no DD. So I'd like to get him some good advice.

First, without including Salvage gear (which I consider to be in its own separate category), what would be the absolute best TP setup for DRG when taking into account RARE/EX gear from sky, sea, limbus, dynamis, assault, etc?

Second, same question as above except this time for a WS setup.

Finally, where should he start to get the most return for his time? For example, I started with sky because Koenig head, hands and Crimson Cuisses are all basic elements of the endgame PLD. I would guess that he'd want to start with Limbus because of the Homam set, but then again, Hecatomb might be more worthwhile. Like me, he's in the military and has limited game time, so I'd like to know where it would be best spent.

Homam TP, Hecatomb WS, with a couple other pieces I'm forgetting.

I shouldn't really have to say what the best neck/earrings/rings/waist/back is, as that's the same for almost any melee. (and is just bought off the AH, besides torques and lolMars)

Limbus needs sea, and sea takes a while, and limbus takes longer, whereas Sky is a couple days work for access, and if you're lucky, the lists are short. Though Heca wont' do nearly as much for your damage, sky is a good introduction to end-game.

earrings: assault/ ???
That i think best for TP. For ws, just boost your str with hecatomb, triumph earring, warwolf belt, sea torque depending on ws, flame/triumph ring.

i half expected this thread to be full of "loldrg" jokes and other stupid stuff. im glad to have my expectations not met.

keep the advice comming. my 2nd character will need to know this stuff too.

Why wouldn't you go Dusk for legs feet and hands?

Nothing I can say that hasn't been said already but:

Why wouldn't you go Dusk for legs feet and hands?

Since we're talking about the "best" TP setup, homam hands/legs/feet would hands down beat the dusk. I'd also believe that Barone/Conte would be better fulltime instead of Dusk Trousers.

Dusk would however be an honorable mention if said DRG didn't have sea access or a limbus linkshell that fights Proto-Omega.

Also, Shadow Gorget for Penta Thrust and Light Gorget for Wheeling Thrust would be very nice to have for WS also.

If we're going for best, you want a Divisor Ring too!

Can't wait till they raise the level cap to 76

That would be the end of the world as we know it!

I'd be less annoyed about the ring not working and more annoyed at my 11 lvl 37 jobs that were suddenly gimp subjobs, lol.

Click the "Change Job" option and run the cursor over dragoon. A sub menu pops up and the name "Eleibfrid" will show. Click that and you will be the best dragoon in the history of forever. Safety is not guaranteed. I've only done this once.

It appears I need to get Mandau Tatami Shield Staurobow +1 Arctic Wind
Maat's Cap Love Torque Hollow Earring Hollow Earring
Skadi's Cuirie Skadi's Bazubands Iota Ring Iota Ring
Cerb. Mantle +1 Ninurta's Sash Skadi's Chausses Homam Gambieras
I'm such a gimp... Oh wait... yay! I have the wind!

Cool! I just need to figure out how to use Kirin's pole and Astral Aspis at the same time. Once I do that I need novios, some morrigans, an aureole, prudence torque, aquilo's rings (lol) and some other stuff. Sheesh I've already got my zenith crown (recommended lol), kirin's pole, p.rope, p.cape, and phantom tathulum so I'm well on my way to uber-ness!

Now if only I can work out how to use a staff and shield at the same time...
