So friday night I was deep frying and something inside the pot burst, sending burning oil onto my face. After spending an hour trying to convince myself and roommate I was fine, ended up in an ambulance to Windham Hospital and eventually a helicopter ride to Mass General in Boston where they had a burn center. They rushed me over because they were worried about my right eye.

Spent the weekend there and I'm home for the week, growing my pretty face back. Should make a full recovery, including the vision out of my right eye. I guess the lesson is, be careful with deep fryers.

I hope you had insurance... helicopter rides are only fun when you can afford them. lol

Glad you're doing ok though =)

Ouch :S
I have experiences with boiling water <.<
When I was 4 I poured VERY hot coffee in the boot of my red foot (we were in a car and my uncle wanted some coffee, and we had some in those bottles)... I ended up burning my whole foot. Since I was only 3 or 4 you cant see any scars.
And then when I was around 11 I wanted to make myself a soup and ended up pouring it over my left thigh. I was wearing a jeans and so it soaked with the hot soup. Looked very bad but now there is just a small scar left .... sooooo watch out for hot things ;)

dang fire, um don't play with fire anymore? seriously though, glad there isn't permadamage, and hope you have a speedy recovery.

i have been burned with a sparkler, and with boiling beeswax i and my classmates were using to seal dye on eggs we were dyeing for easter in 7th grade ><

hurt like hell, and still got the scars to show for it.

Be careful with fryers indeed. Or better yet, don't use deep fryers at all, lol.

Best wishes to a speedy recovery.

Ya I got health insurance. Seems like the recovery is doing decent as well. Just kind of a pain with the dead skin peeling away with this Bacitracin ointment all over my face which seems to be slowing the process from my perspective.

It may be, but it should also prevent scarring =) or atleast minimize it.

Once before I got oil in my eye from frying eggs with too much oil like a stupid jackass. Oh yeah it tickled for a good while let me tell you >_>; . I used to work in coffee shops and get burned all the time but got used to it after awhile. The shit that really hurt at work was the boiling water for black tea...

Yeah, that can really suck. While in Columbia I sustained sun burns that turned into second degree burns later on. This was probably the most painful time in my entire life, given that my skin was so fucked up it literally fell off at certain points in the outer epidermous, especially around the face. My face scabbed over a nice brown and black color. It wasn't too fun being asked if I was a burn victim by unknowing people, nor was the healing process. I definitely feel your pain and hope you have a speedy and painless recovery, although I know the latter probably isn't possible :(.

If you have an aloe plant someplace, use that. Or at least grow it in your garden, I always have one of those available, and smear that on till it heals.

Stink as it is.

Ouch dude, I feel your pain. I worked at IHOP for a number of years myself, and we had to change the grease in the fryers at the end of each shift. We had a 50 gallon metal pot, that we dumped the grease from the fryers in and carried it out to the grease trap in the back. One morning we were carrying it out and I slipped and dropped it, and the grease splashed all over my legs and feet. I have never stripped down to my boxers so fast in my life, lol. I had hella burns on my legs and feet, and the worst part of it all? They still made me work ><

I've only had minor burns myself. 3rd degree on my leg from putting it on a header pipe on a Corvette. -.- Small burns from emptying the butter machines at the movie theaters I used to work at.

I can only imagine oil to the face. All the best for your recovery. Next time you deep-fry.... welding helmet.

I burned my finger on an Iron once... not gonna lie that hurt.

Not as painful are yours, but I thought I would throw in my story like everyone else

As a 6 year old kid, and let me just say, everything hurts 10x worse as a kid, I had a cup of boiling water slip and pour out all over my hand.

I remember that shittastic day at daycare to this day.

the whole point of the bacitracin is to keep the skin moist so it heals normally as well as warding off potential infections... and like another person said, it will minimize scarring.
