Burning Crusade breaks single day sales record

Again, if other MMOs put out in more countries like Blizzard did, the gap of their success would be no where near as high.

And if i shit quarters i'd be a millionaire.

Exactly when are you going to make a valid point?

The point is it's successful and good marketing and development made it that way. It's beyond arguement. As stated the numbers speak for themselves and will continue to do so until someone improves upon the formula. Unfortunately i doubt there's enough liscenced material out there that will even begin to be as successful without being masacred in the process. I say 'liscenced material' because traditionally that's what drives success in the gaming world let alone MMOs.

Me: WoWs Popularity mostly stems from Korean/Chinese local versions.
You: No it doesn't, only half comes from China!
Me: Exactly, if other MMOs had Chinese/Korean versions, they'd be more popular and give WoW a run for its money.
You: Nuh-uh, because 1 out of 150 Americans play WoW.

Again, I state - A larger market area = higher subscribers. If you choose to ignore that for a third(or fourth?) time. Go away. Sure, WoW would be more popular still, I don't think I ever stated otherwise. What I did state is that it wouldn't have such a huge lead over other games, despite you telling me it wouldn't matter.

No idea why you're hung up on the American subscribers, when they make up 1/4 of the total. Maybe less.

Dude, you don't decide the subject matter.
And let's be accurate, shall we? From the top:

You: Any game with a korean market is successful
Me: (link with regional stats) reference to korean released game that fails utterly.
You: i'd love to see the regional stats but can't click links.
Me: Based on the regional numbers i posted korea makes up a very little portion of the market for WoW.
You: They released it more places, that's why it's successful
Me: No shit, that's what i said.
You: I'ma tie one on about some meager statement you made about china even though i *was* trying to make an example out of korea.
Me: Way to not comprehend anything i've written.

No shit. Larger releases made available to more countries make a bigger success, welcome to econ 101. Meanwhile XI fails on all the same levels of marketing and suffers for it. So what you mean to tell me is if SE had half a fucking brain about how to release their game they could be as successful as WoW ... or any developer for that matter it doesn't have to be SE.

Wow, that kinda sounds like what i was saying in the first goddamn place. It's successful because it was marketed and developed properly on almost every level with respect to it's intended audience.

No idea why you were so hung up on korean subscribers when they make up less than 1/4 of the US subscriptions and then moved on to China when i said that was a huge market share to begin with.

 Die in a fire, i like that. So fresh.

Troll a topic more worth your input like parser results or quest directions, k? I'll holler if i need to know anything about being a MNK or BST.

And yet you're the guy arguing that it's Numero Uno because of American subscribers alone, for some blockheaded reason. Yeah, no. It's numbers are what they are because of China, not America. Sure, I shouldn't have generalized with just Korea, next time I'll say "South East Asia release." Sure, with the Americans it'd still be up there. Not enough to topple Lineage though. And compared to other MMOs, 2 million vs. 1 Million doesn't sound as nice as 8 to 1.

Jesus you're fucking thick.

I'm saying the american numbers are impressive. All the numbers are impressive because they marketed it and released it to be successful. Try reading a little less on the defensive, i never stated they're success is based on US sales. I stated that 1/150 people playing your game is pretty damn impressive to me and that no other MMO can boast those numbers in ANY country.

WoW leads the market on subscriptions, period.

Exactly where the hell do you get the delusion you're under that i give a shit about one region versus another based on any of the comments i've made in this thread? Seriously, go back and read the thread. All i've said was it was done right from the getgo and now enjoys prestige due to it's success based on a sound fucking business strategy which XI and many other MMOs lack. You're the one who wanted to latch on to regional figures and stick your foot in your mouth about korea.

I really wouldn't say they've done everything right. I mean, completely making the grind people had to do to get what used to be great mean absolutely nothing with better items that drop from easy mobs - that spells disaster in my book buddy.

I'm all for progressively better equipment, but thats a pretty fucked up thing to do to dedicated players.

Obviously you've neither played the expansion or reviewed it's content. I digress..

Fanboy.

Zero-Content.

Off-topic.

Pick one you like and move on.

The subject is the success of WoW. If you can't bother keeping on that without resorting to flaming at random because you don't understand what the adults are speaking about then kindly see your way to another thread.

If you'd like to start a topic about how everything pre-BC is mostly obsolete there's a place for it.

One question, exactly where did you get your 1 out of 150 US Players number? I certainly hope it didn't involve that 2 Million North American, since that more than likely included, you know, Canada. Part of North America.

Ofcourse you did though. I mean, 300 million/2 million. 150.

2 million in sales/subscriptions based on the press release pre-BC. 300,000,000 US population based on the most current source i could find.

2/300 = 1/150.

But of course korea = china so i'm within the same faults as you are and that makes it ok for both of us, amirite?

You sure did burn me.

Sure, whatever helps you realize you made a mistake. I mean, atleast I had the gall to admit I did.

Did i not?

I could swear i read the edit you made, went back to read the press release, and then compared it to the mistake you made. Validating what you pointed out. Hell i even had to edit myself to point out that we both made the same mistake as i had made it again while you were posting that crap above this, i left the original lines in the post which show that i was obviously doing the NA = US thing and was mistaken.

Maybe i saw it in a movie or something..

Whatever helps you feel superior about an argument you started and continued trolling based on your lack of comprehension for no apperant reason after an obvious derail, chief. You're far better at this flame-warrior thing than i gave you credit for.

So wait.. half their subscriber base hails from China alone, and you're telling me that doesn't matter to their gigantic success? Get the fuck out.

Who'se the fucking fanboy here? I'm not saying without China WoW would be a flop. Without it, it wouldn't be nearly as popular, and the fact that other MMOs don't cover as much Earth Area as it is a huge contributing factor. Die in a fire Mokk, you've become one gigantic retard. And no, you cannot buy FFXI in China. You have to import it. It isn't advertised at all.

4.5 million gamers isn't really a flop :P I don't think FFXI hits that. (that's taking out the china figures)

I don't see why people bitch about the games. FFXI has it's fun, WoW has its fun. FFXI just has a bit longer waiting period to get crap done (i.e. waiting for a group for exp or CoP or whatnot), where as WoW doesn't. The Battles in WoW (depending on what you fight) can be insane and take a long time, require changes in strategy through-out the fight, etc. Granted most of those are later in the game, but the same basically goes for FFXI. *shrugs* I think WoW makes a good winning point where every job makes use in endgame where as FFXI endgame was (well was) throw more BLM and SMN at it or WAR. Most of the time people wanted WAR, SMN, BLM, RDM, WHM, BRD, and NIN. That leaves out lots of the other jobs x.x for the most part that is, even though they might be just as useful

I just noticed something in skaw's edit..

Since when does import mean unavailable?

I said it's available. You can't turn around and say 'no' to my statement and then go on to claim that i was, indeed, correct about it being available via import.

If SE didn't want china playing china wouldn't be able to play. End of story.

Wtf do you get off in this thread, man? It's just sad. All this pathetic posturing over not reading and bothering to comprehend before responding and somehow i'm the 'gigantic retard' .. yea, ok.

Any MMO that has a Korean release leads the Market. It's not exactly rocket science to figure that out, considering Lineage 1 and 2 are still plowing through with subscriptions.

Make no mistake and assume FFXI is unreachable in Korea. It's there and everyone who wants to play it is and can much like any other game over there.

And I distinctly said it's not advertised in those countries. You cannot play what you do not know to exist. Sure, theres people everywhere that know of something that isn't sold in their country and can get a hold of it, but they're the extreme minority.

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

That's about the only response your post warrants, take it or leave it.

What the fuck are you talking about? Blizzard has always distributed to China. Square-Enix never has, to this day. Final Fantasy games aren't well known there. Warcraft is. Why would you bother running advertisements for a game in a country you're not even selling it in? The only people buying FFXI in those areas are people who have either lived in other parts of the world and played them, or have played the previous Final Fantasy games through import or emulation.

Otherwise, you're not even going to know what it is.

I assume you know every product that comes out in every remote country, right Mokk? If not, you have got to be fucking kidding me.
