Calling In 'Gay' to Work Is Latest Form of Protest

I'm confused.. the lockout for the NHL got a massive response... I won't even go into great detail about that, lets just say this Hockey Raised Canuck chicky hasn't watched a game SINCE the lockout.

Why couldn't this work?

How many ways, for how long have they been trying to get their "Point" across.. and yet here they are still fighting.. so what gives? I say try any god damn way you want, if a massive volume of the gay population goes with it and boycotts the day and all it does is leave more room in their pocket books, another effort lost.

C'mon.. if it doesn't effect everyone overall, if no one is going to notice, if it won't have a negative or positive effect..........why care?

amirite??

Not entirely, as the contexts are different. The homosexual community isn't seeking more money, while those involved with sports lockouts/strikes invariably are always after the bigger buck.

Also, hockey players are entertainers. Now, if the gay community got scores of bigtime actors and actresses to stop working, that might make the kind of statement they're aiming for. Otherwise, it's hard to take them seriously when they're saying "you won't let me marry? FINE! I'll just sit on my ass at home and do nothing all day!" I put up with a former coworker who just sat on ass at home 50% of the time; all it ended up getting him was fired.

I'm saying.. they have tried numerous things.. least they feel this may be the next best step, shit they can decide to take whatever risks they want, those who feel they cannot afford to support them but only in spirit will probably choose the latter.

Never-the-less.. they should try whatever they want to get the attention required to shed more light on the issues they face.

If you, or I, figure they just wanted to sit home and fuck the dog all day, if we really believe that's what this was suppose to convey.. our society needs more help than I thought. We're definitely walking around with our heads stuck far up our asses.

Sorry guys, but if doesn't effect us, why do we care so much?? Maybe.. this is what this Gay-Day was initially supposed to do.. just stir up controversy, the more Gay rights are discussed, more attention to the issues is paid.

My point to bringing up the lockout was, it is a sport.. it's about athletes whining their hundred thousand dollar + take home each year was not enough, they got their attention.. from a sport for crying out loud.. I was a huge hockey fan.. I still am.. just not an NHL fan.

True, much like I haven't been a large-scale MLB fan since the 1994 Strike. I haven't felt quite the same about Pro baseball since then.

This ridiculous thing won't make me change my mind one way or the other about the gays participating in it; if anything it will make me think that the ones who do stay home are only looking for a "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" card.

Yeah, it's a sport..

But you have to realize, not everybody is qualified to be an athlete, much less a specific type of athlete. You can easily replace a cook, a waiter, a gas station attendant, a stock boy, a janitor, a mail clerk, a register jockey, and many low-skill trade job employees. The odd employee at these positions aren't going to hurt managers and owners profits by not showing up to work in protest as much as entire teams saying they won't play. Without the teams, the managers and league officials are fucked. By example, without your fry cook, the rest of the kitchen team is just going to have to pick up the slack a bit.

Unless every gay person works an important position, or they convince their coworkers to protest with them, it won't do anything. They simply aren't a large enough part of the working force to have the impact required to shut down entire businesses for the day.

Unfortunately.. many will probably think the same.. I mean.. >.> I can just imagin how many would really not be all passionate about the day to spread a message. I just hope.. it does.

Women marched the streets and burned their bras...

I don't think we want to see Gay Parades turn into huge mounds of flaming dildos, strap-ons, cock rings and pleather... could you imagin the smell?

Crude oil futures would rise again, that's for sure.

Yeah this is totally the wrong thing to do. Not even counting the fact that if you don't want to do your job, there's someone else that does, and that the connotation is that "gay" is a disease or illness, or even the general state of the economy, this is plain stupid.

"We want equal rights! And to get em, if necessary, we're prepared to not contribute to the economy, and to otherwise be a burden on society! That'll show em, and get what we want too!"

........Yeah.

I laughed out loud.

I love gay ppl, lol!

Yeah I just totally almost spit my drink out at this and it made me totally laugh.

Veld, what happened to your sexy Elvaan avatar? :<

I entirely support such a protest, though I do worry that this style of execution might be back peddling - As Tristram said, calling in gay is like comparing it to a disease, which is the exact opposite of the image people want.

The only thing that could really come from such a style of protest is people losing their jobs for skipping work...or for being gay, which in a case like this is just a powder keg bound to go off. =\

I'm going to respond to this protest in the same way I respond to animal rights activists and PETA. For every day a gay doesn't work, I'm going to work three. And then, I'm going to take all of that money that I earn instead of gays, and buy scads of straight porn.

What now little gays?! WHAT NOW!?

So for PETA do you buy animal porn?

That was more in the "For every animal they don't eat, I eat three" vein, but I suppose I could spice it up a bit the animal porn and double the sticking it to them. Good suggestion!

While I agree with gay rights I kinda think this was a little dumb.

What i think was even more dumb was the fact that this was conceived by a stand-up comedian and scheduled to happen on a wednesday...

You think he called out to work that night? probably not, the only time i ever heard of a comedy club even being open on a wednesday was amateur night.

hope there was no backlash for this, I mean, there are so many heterosexual professionals that just lost their jobs in this country im sure any one of them would snap at the chance to steal a "out gay" absent desk seat.

If they really want attention they need to go the roots of rosa parks and montgomery alabama, and boycott something that really effects the world in a way that the world would take notice.

like bed bath & beyond...

You're a madman! What would we do without our passionfruit moisturizer?

A revolution with dry skin is not a revolution worth having.
