Everything in this game is situational. There is no one uber tank.

For example, my ls uses RDM/BRD to tank JoL, with a PLD/NIN backup tank. We would never use RDM/BRD to tank anything else, but it works wonders for JoL. Both NIN and BRD/NIN would get destroyed at JoL.

Show me a NIN that can keep hate off of 10 nuke-happy BLMs for an hour while getting pounded with -ga spells and I'll let it slide. Utsusemi is powerful, but it's not the end all be all in all situations.

I present you with: A NIN/DRK that knows what he's doing.

For the most part, Blazn has a point, those tanks in the right hands > PLD/WAR (PLD/NIN > PLD/WAR, for that matter, in a good shell). But what he doesn't get is that the average player can't make those jobs work, and will probably do worse than a standard PLD/WAR.

Yes, Aegis is superior to <insertshieldhere>. HAY, GUESS WAT, not everybody has access to that kind of gear. Same applies to this, Joe Schmoe can't come in fresh off the exp grind and make NIN/DRK worth a damn.

For that matter, Salvage gear is superior to <insertgearhere>, but it's not available to everybody due to the difficulty of the areas.

You are forgetting mob choice also. NIN/DRK isn't going to do shit against a monster that goes straight through his shadows. NIN/DRK, BRD/NIN, <insert any other tank here> all have their limitations, and it's not always skill.

Why have 10 happy blms when you can kill things with TP burn? Old school not as good as you think it is. If its all situational then not use a PLD or BLM on a mob. Use WARs MNKs DRKs NINs as they do job safer and faster.
Age of the TP burn is here and it looks to stay ....

A good nin can bloodtank as they some resson have a stupid amount of -% damage.

2/3 on HQ kings can't claim the last but LS doing KS99 for are MNK for BB.

Baby HNMs = to easy.

Do not do Vtra etc as over packed so we head to sky when every one else is camping it. :D

I'm done with you. You obviously have no idea how endgame works, and while NIN/DRK, BRD/NIN etc are awesome tanks, they just aren't right in every situation, regardless of player skill.

Actually there is paladin gear in there. I don't know about ya other PLD but I know I want this.

Pretty solid piece, aye, definitely the one I'd go after for my PLD. Lack of +Enmity isn't the best, but 12 Vit is nice, along with the % increases and increased DD capacity, not to mention the Refresh. Certainly make a great piece to xp in if nothing else.
 
I think Ikari captured it the first time. This is gear to get after you've reached some intermediate stage. I don't forsee people going from level 75 wearing level 50 and 60s armors straight to salvage armor. Even those people that are now totally maxed out (the few there are) are going to take some time getting this gear. We've even mentioned in this and other threads that maybe these won't be the best gear for damage reduction or won't be the best on WS or this or that. What is pretty apparent is that each item in terms of the sheer number of bonuses is leaps and bounds above other pieces in the game.

Look at Ares body, it's more dmg output, more tanking ability and refresh than what a majority of people are currently wearing. Doesn't mean it's the best at any one of those things, but it's the best all around piece.

And while this is going to be tough to get it by no means is as hard as a relic weapon, and nor should it be. I agree with rarity in items, but SE made those weapons just ludicrous.

The real question I've been thinking is how will someone in a full set handle a xp party or some sky farming or assault? Some people will have some pieces, some no pieces and some probably just lame stuff. It may just be that like a BB MNK/WAR, they're just forced to be /NIN to reduce their damage output and give them utsu, which if that's the case now then who can handle someone that got maybe...idk...like 15% better?
