Cant find a healer? Well...

I think you're confusing what worked in one party, and applying it to other parties. Unusual parties that work are more often than not the result of the 6 members, and giving false hope to the gimps that read this board, making them believe they can pull of a PT with a BLU healer is almost criminal.

not one, but 4 different times since I hit 60. Im just saying its possible and it works. If that makes me a criminal, then a criminal I be!

Was it 4 completely different parties, or 4 parties of mostly the same people? What meeze is saying is that most people do not have the skills/gear/plain intelligence to make unusual setups work.

well, they were all basically the same setup, but not the same people.

I mainhealed as blu/whm once. It did work. Regardless if people agree with your or not, it does work.

I wouldn't do it again though. I'd rather go fishing or crafting or watch robot chicken until a more ideal setup came together.

Personally, I started BLU to get AWAY from main healing, but meh. BLU can main heal quite well with MP and MND gear. Baja's comparison to a BRD main healing doesn't really work, since BLU actually has an MP pool that doesn't come from their sub. :P You could also set MP+ and MND+ spells, and like someone else mentioned, you could also set Diamondhide for group Stoneskin (though that costs 99 MP). To those who don't know, MND affects Magic Fruit a LOT (compared to Cure I-IV). VIT actually does too, for some reason... It heals for 2 extra HP per MND, and 1 extra HP per VIT. It also is slightly enhanced by the presence of healing magic skill, as weird as that seems.

I chose BRD, because it was a job that would usually sub whm and is a shitty main healer; the point was that the vast majority of it's ability as a main healer comes from it's sub job. I guess since people don't like that, you could say PLD/WHM or even BLM/WHM or DRK/WHM. BLU/WHM seems to offer less than SMN/WHM does in terms of main healing, the only difference is that BLU can actually do damage so there's a reason for them to not be a healer.

Ruffy did well healing with my BRD spells to back him up. I'm pretty sure he could handle his own pretty well without a BRD as well but it may be very hard and reliant on party setup.

/whm gets cure III

Magic fruit is basically a cure IV and it can even surpass cure IV.

When I main healed as blu, it was because my friend was another blu in the party and we were short a healer. However, I didn't just heal. I equipped as much enfeebling as I could as well as mnd and mp so I could bring more to the table.

And I highly doubt a pld/whm will come even close to my blu mp pool. Same for drk.

Considering the crowd Blu took in, I don't think you'll get them to main heal. Summoners resented mainhealing enough as it is, and summoner drew in a more traditional magely crowd than Blu did, considering blu is more a melee/mage hybrid than pure mage. In a game where you can't convince warriors to tank, you'll never convince blu's to main heal. Well, you'll convince a small enlightened minority of them that work for the party's benefit.

There's more to being a healer than tossing out cures. You've basically got cure 4, that's nice, but aside from that you don't bring much by yourself. SMN brings more buffs for the whole party(I believe their stone skin is stronger too, isn't it?) on top of being able to toss out cures.

If they gear for it, pld can get a pretty decent MP pool, plus they can get the second highest boost to their cure potency in the game. The reasons why pld usually have such pathetic mp pools is because a lot of their gear actually converts hp into mp.

Again, BLU can main heal in a pinch, but it really shouldn't be something you intend to do all the time.

I dont know, if you havent experienced it then you shouldnt be bashing it. I was in a party where Ruffy main healed, I even told him that it wasnt going to work blah blah. But alas, he did the job. I D/Ced about 5k later, which was a whole 40 min. So he kept it going nicely.

Blu/Whm works depending on set up. I have at least main heal in 4 different occasion and all 4 parties works very well. All 4 are in different lvl range the latest level is in Mire where we have 2 BLU, so being me and lazy and a whm, i choose to main heal ^^b.

Imagine, Auto-Refresh, MP max up, Clear Mind 1 2 3 4, MP conservation in one job? That's what Blu can do with the right spells equipped.

And Ruffy is posting on the last desperation attempt to find a healer, he's not saying BLU is a new healer over whm etcetc. BLU works fine as main heal depending on mobs and tank. About the Haste is a necessary spells, that's only apply when there's a right job available and competent player :p.

Blu is pretty decent healer, just take your mp, mnd, hmp gears and staff with you. ^^b

It isn't something I'd ever consider doing all the time. I'm a DD type person. I get off on doing huge MB's with my blm and kicking ass with my blu. Believe me, seeing blu thrown into a full-time healing clique is not something I'd like to see happen.

Just saying it is possible. There are parties where casting cureIII/cureIV actually is the only thing a healer needs to do.

BLU have RDM have identicall MP pools. Last I checked, that was quite a bit more then what a PLD have. Saying a PLD could do the job just as good is rather far from wrong. A PLD/WHM won't get Clear Mind IV, nor Conserve MP.

While yes, PLD can get Auto Refresh from a neck piece, but I doubt it'd work as good as BLU in the long run.

PLD can get a larger amount of auto-refresh than a BLU could. BLU would be limited to the trait from equiping spells, vermy, and sanction for independent refresh. A pld gets the trait, the necklace, a vermy and sanction; the slightly higher auto-refresh would make up for the lower MP pool, although it wouldn't be terribly lower if they gear for it. Also, as I already said, paladin is the only job besides whm that can get over 10% cure potency, so their cures will be stronger.

I never said that PLD would be able to do "just as well" as a BLU could, only that if they are geared for it they could be a competent healer. Although I don't think BLU would be leaps and bounds better, especially because main healing is neither jobs actual purpose; they could just do it if you're really desperate for a healer.

Personally, I wouldn't trust some random BLU I've never heard of to be competent at damage dealing, let alone main healing. I've seen way to many random people who don't know crap about how to play their jobs or what even mediocre gear is(theirs is massively sub-par); so I wouldn't risk my time, money and exp on quite a large unknown as "will this BLU be intelligent enough to cure people." Yeah it can work in a pinch as has already been said, but the amount of BLU's who would be either willing or, more importantly, good are few and far between.

you forgot healing breeze, wild carrot

healing breeze is a nice aoe that costs slightly less than curaga but heals in the 55+ for 120-160s

wasnt arguing against blu main healing but haste is a spell nin's should have
if possible

smn's are in a similer boat. peole flock to us to main heal and we endure similer slings & arrows. although im accomplished at main healing on my smn i also wish people opened their eyes more and considered it useful other then cause of their MP pool and subbing whm. but thats another thread.

this thread is about alternatives in healing. before ToAU rdm's weren't looked towards for main healing anywhere near as much as they are now. parties primerily looked for whms to main heal and rdm's to do what they are good at, turning the mob into a whimp and refeshing the mages. but less and less of both jobs are being seen in later lvls so alternatives must be looked for. meeze say most random people cant make unusual setups work. he's right cause to many people rather take the easy road out and dont have the intuition to try. "oh this wont work im gone. good bye." the old ways are failing us people. we've shot ourselves in the foot by trying to cling to them. im glad my ranger has a static and i can lvl like the fun good ol' days. now my ninja doesnt have that luxury so imma have to ajust a bit in order to advance. i actually dont see that as a bad thing either. i've tanked just fine without haste. lets face is even with a rdm or whm haste isnt 100% cause many dont know to keep it on me. flexibility, thats what keeps a game fun.

I asked about that earlier, if there was any other healing spells they got. I don't know what wild carrot does, but the amount of hp restored on a healing wind(according to your numbers) is pathetic. The only real advantage of it would be to wake up the party if they're all asleep; otherwise it wouldn't restore nearly enough hp to be useful.

As I ninja I would say it would work but no thanks. I <3 my haste its great for hitting more and holding hate. It is very nice for recast times as well, I just love it when the mob decides to use 2 multi hit TP moves in 15 secs. I can see it working well when you fight lower than avg. level mobs, mobs that don't slow and mobs that dont have multi hit weaponskills. You also better have a brd for elegy and to dispel. It will be more money on nin tools for less exp I would rather wait for a better setup. Im not sure from a plds view I could see this working better for them than an nin.
