Capping Evasion Skill

well, got my evasion to 250(good enough) and challenged maat... and that asshole hit right through my blink band shadows.... what the heck>.<

i've got video evidence too...

i just let steelshells hurt me to get evasion up, it was already really high from pulling, but i wanted some extra

Blink (the spell), unlike Utsu, doesn't guarantee that the first hits (two I think) will be absorbed by shadows.

What he said.
I think that your enhancing magic is what determines the chance to blink, but don't quote me on that.

Edit: Wiki says "random within 4-5 hits", so there you go. Not sure where I remember that from, but oh well. It's a last resort anyway usually because of its unreliability. :/

yeah, as per the blink situation, it didn't proc in 7 or 8 hits... even once... which is why i think it's shitty

and as for seperating SA and DE... i figure it will give a better SC if i do SA + DE > DE

They do, lol. Scwall kept failing to steal from Maat on his test...so he attempted the fight. I do remember he was able to land bolts without a ranged accuracy setup, but sporadically. Right before he died, he popped steal and won!

Props if you can melee him to death. Everyone's concentrating on evasion...Which will help somewhat.

However, have you considered using Sleep bolts with a ranged accuracy setup?

I'd venture to say that if Sleep bolts work on him, you could TP and only wake him after Dancing Edge.

Still though, there's a huge gap between marksmanship and evasion skill. I'm not sure if you could get enough ranged accuracy to make a difference, but it's still worth a shot.

For my "dry-run" Maat fight, I had about +15 R. Acc. and capped Marksmanship. I was about 0/20 on bolts. Maybe that was just bad luck, but it was enough to make me not bother with bolts on the actual fight. Also, I had reasonably good Acc. on melee attacks for the dry run (considering he is a THF) even though I just used a cheapo Mithkabob. That lead me to use a Siskabob on the actual fight, and it sure seemed like he evaded alot more attacks on the real deal. I can't explain the difference. Oh well, I still beat him on the real attempt.

I beat Maat the old fashioned way... to death. But I wouldn't hesitate to try to steal if this is your first job to 70 and you *need* the win. I beat him doing pretty much what Hfar described. The only difference was that I used PD the same time that Maat did, and I used the time to swig some Hi-potions. I later used Flee to get some distance and use more Hi-potions, but PD and Flee are practically interchangeable if all you are going to do is use items. My DE damage and TP return were pretty erratic on the actual fight, so I guess I would have been better off with sushi afterall. Also, I meant to Hide on the test run and see if that would allow me to SA Maat a second time. I forgot to try it out, and I didn't attempt it on the actual fight because I really didn't expect it to work.

Here was my gear set up, if it helps at all. I was lv 70 at the time of the fight.

Food: Siskabob (don't do this, heh)
Meds: Sleeping potions x4 (100tp from these), Icarus Wing, Hi-potion x10

Melee Gear:
Head: Ohat
Neck: Chiv. Chain
Hands: Merman's Mittens
Body: SH
Ring1: Raja's ring
Ring2: Victory ring
Waist: Potent Belt
Earring1: Velocity earring
Earring2: Dodge earring
Main weap: Harpe
Sub weap: Viking Shield
Legs: AF pants
Feet: Leaping Boots
Ranged: Lightning Bow +1 (since I decided not to use bolts on the real run)
Ammo: not used, but Beetle arrows

WS/SA gear swaps:

Neck: Spike Necklace
Earring1: Merman's Earring
Earring2: Merman's Earring
Ring2: Grace Ring
Body: Blue Coat.

Ah man that made me laugh

what made you laugh? im telling you you need to evade to get skill ups, which is true. you do get skill up when shadows are up even.

YOU DON'T NEED TO EVADE TO GET SKILL UPS!

Trufact. I dont even think my summoner got a single skill up from evading...

i purposely went and got myself kicked in the face by Ix'Drg to cap my eva :)

It's true you can get skill ups while evading and with shadows up.
You just get them much, much faster when you take hits.

Unfortunately, Hide does not work on him after you have engaged him. However, you can use Hide at the start to ensure your SA hits. My first run I didn't line up properly b/c he has that weird stance. 2nd run popped Hide at beginning to make sure I didn't do that again, and won that time around. Pretty much same strategy as already posted, slept TP to 150% (for more Accuracy, since higher TP is higher WS accuracy), SA, DE, Ic wing, DE again. This took him to about 50% or so. Maat promptly used PD at this point so I Flee'd back to entrance and popped a few potions. Popped my PD once he caught up with me, and then it was just stay alive till I got enough TP for another DE. I did not use a blink band at all, but went in with capped evasion and a ton of eva+ gear. It paid off cause his Asuran Fists missed. Used squid sushi as food, since it has DEX mod for SA/DE and AGI mod for some small evasion boost.

As for skillchain, regardless of whether you stack SADE or split, it will not affect Detonation damage. Level 1 Skillchain damage is determined by the CLOSING weaponskill, not any other factor (other than the usual elemental resists), up to 50% of damage from that weaponskill. Since you can't close with a SADE in this case, it won't make a difference. Personally, I found splitting to be more effective for the spike damage for this fight.

I thought THF win instantly if they can land Steal on Maat?

i was like 0/11 on steals before i decided to just melee his ass >.> 1/2
(first time i mustve been like drunk cuz i totally went in unprepared lol)

i tried everything, SA, hide, dex gear, chr gear, only steal+gear under lvl 70 that i was missing was rabbit charm.

Complete waste of time trying to win via the steal method. Maat is not some lv 5 orc in west ronfuare. Chances are if you try to win via the steal method you will lose over and over and over again for quite a while vs the much easier method of beat that punk ass down.

Has anyone had an oppurtunity to test deodorizer+hide? The only thing stopping monsters from falling for hide is true sight and/or scent tracking to my knowlege. The true sight monsters could be scent trackers even then. This is prettymuch for academic purposes but a sleep bolt before running out or range -->deodorize-->hide could be a viable stratey for hurting maat for taking down the last bit once you have tp again.
