She could have said "I personally believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, but the great thing about our country is that we offer equal protection to all regardless of their identity - WORLD PEACE!" Instead she chose to ignore the actual question, and warble on about how "in her country"... I don't even know what she said, something about opposite marriage. The only thing she is a victim of here, is the education system.

And yes, her boobs are fake. The Miss California executives released a statement saying that they had "facillitated" her surgery a few weeks before the Miss USA pageant.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the very fact that she's just happy to be used as a puppet by an organization such as NOM exacerbates her stupidity. It's lovely to have an opinion and to be frank about it, but you know a little integrity wouldn't go astray.

How is it not a good career move... There are 50 hot bitches in that pageant. Maybe... maybe one of those is going to be famous which is the real reason that they get into the pageant.

Unlike the other 49 contestants in the competition everyone knows who she is. Sure everyone may think that she is an idiot but that can be fixed later. For now she is accomplishing the the most successful way possible staying in the little bit of spotlight that this competition gives and she has by far the largest chance of accomplishing her goals coming out of this competition.

Being smart is the easy part... having people actually listen to you is the hard part. Well now she has everyone's attention and she can get informed on the issues fairly easily especially if she picks a topic as focused as this particular one.

And as far as having a bad reputation goes, scroll back and look at how many people hated on Obama after like a month of him being in office. It's surprising how quickly people from both sides of a contentious issue decide to form a negative opinion of people who disagree with them. It's really sad in a way, as emotion boils over logic, people who preach tolerance as well of people who preach Christian ideals can show themselves to ignore the spirit of all of that.

The fallout of having an unpopular opinion in "touchy issues" as many posters here are displaying is the very reason these issues are touchy. It's also a reason why people keep their views so private and while it appears everyone is oh-so cultured, voters tend to vote against gay marriage.

Removing the emotion and focusing on the logic I feel would better sway opinions, though the objective is rarely to sway anyone's opinion, rather to fire up complacent people who already agree.

No one, I repeat no one in this thread has downed her for speaking out against same-sex marriage. She did not articulate her position well for starters, but I don't really hold that against her. The root issue is that she doesn't understand the issue she's decided to speak out against. Its not that she has an opinion that differs from my own, I can totally respect that provided you've put some thought into your opinion. But she hasn't; she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about at all. Its like someone she respects told her that same-sex marriage is bad, so she'll just parrot the sentiment without any minimal level of understanding. "Its just something I believe," is never a valid argument for anything and will never get you any respect from me, even if the thing you're talking about is something I myself believe in.
