cartoons are for children

Deny, not all cartoons are for children, take a look at Metalocalypse, Elfen Lied, Evangelion, hentai, Ninja Scroll. Elfen Lied, Ninja scroll and hentai titles are DEFINITELY NOT for children.

Depends on content.

Irregardless, you just asked a question similar to "Do you like all pasta?" Even though there are hundreds of different types of pasta. Some cartoons, ie teletubbies, are meant for kids. Some cartoons, DBZ, are not meant for children.

On the whole, all age groups can enjoy any cartoon if they are so apt.

Like everybody said above me, it all depends on the content.

It also depends on what you like. I find myself watching Dora the Explorer every morning at 8:00 with my daughter.

Swiper no swiping!

Teletubbies isn't a cartoon, it's live action mixed with CGI... either that or some weird trip O_o

A good example of cartoons for kids (Or Peter Griffin) would be Spongebob.

like on cartoon network, there are some cartoons there for children, it also says the ratings, but at night, when it says " adult swim" thats when its not meant for kids, but do they listen?!? HA!!

Cartoons are for whoever wants to watch them.

If you can watch Bugs Bunny dressed as "Leopald" bring down the opera house and not laugh, you need surgery, as there is not a stick, but likely an entire tree stuck up your ass.

Pretty much. If you enjoy it, you enjoy it.

Do you like candy? Yes? But candy is for kids!

edit: This avatar/signature combo causes the appearance of The Chainsaw Vigilante basking in the light of the Grand Galactic Inquisitors eye-light.

Hey I watched DBZ when I was a kid >.>

But I don't exactly agree that they are, but like Arc said, it differs between the cartoon, there's stuff like Scooby Doo which is a kiddy show, than there's stuff like Pokemon DBZ Simpsons etc which is ageless to an extent (meaning everyone watches kids and adults alike). Than there's shows like Boondocks, Sons of Butcher etc which is mainly aimed toward adults considering the languaged used in it, the plots etc.

So it isn't really an answerable question but if I had to, I'd say no it isn't

Yes.

Cartoons are for various age groups, not just dependent on the content but the general maturity level of the watcher...and it's actually somewhat amazing how it varies. Ranma 1/2 is rated TV-14 (and for a while parents wanted to rate it R...) for it's nudity and comical violence. In Japan it's a kids show, plain and simple. =\

Hell, my six-year old niece loves Fruits Basket. My mom doesn't mind the gore of Elen Lied but is uncomfortable at the partial nudity. Some stuff, while definitely designed for older or younger crowds, doesn't exactly mean people outside those age ranges can't or won't enjoy them as well though. Also doesn't mean they will or won't be comfortable with the content.

Though obviously don't go showing h-anime to kids, but you know what I mean. I for example saw Akira, Iria and Genocyber by age 13 or so and I wasn't effected by the violence in the least, personally. Funny thing about Akira...was during one of the most gory scenes, I'm just sitting there watching with me sister, but then I see a spider on the floor and was more scared of that. Meh.

Depends yes but most of the time anime is kinda looked down upon as younger kid stuff

but then again thats where I live, some cartoons yes are for kids but stuff like simpsons, futurama, family guy arent...

Not all cartoons are for children but I would like to point out that cartoons have a wide appeal to children, regardless of if they understand the content or not. This is partially why people believe that cartoons are for children.

Case in point: my cousins have two children (right now they're six and nine). I'm not quite sure what they are in relation to me, but that's a moot point regardless. I visited them a couple of years ago in a family meeting in Hawaii, and at night their parents typically let them watch television while they're trying to go to sleep because it keeps them out of their hair and despite popular belief it actually puts them to sleep after a short while.

Anyway, as you can guess, Adult Swim comes on earlier in Hawaii, and although I really dislike anime I'd rather watch FMA than whatever crap happens to be on Nickelodeon. So while they were trying to go to sleep I'd be watching cartoons or anime (sometimes Robot Chicken would be on, too, which I guess is technically an animation, not a cartoon, but it's still unrealistic like a cartoon) with them... though I'd opt for Nickelodeon if and only if that stupid show about the kids that film movies came on. Obviously they did not understand what was going on, but because it was animated they liked it and kept quiet, eventually fell asleep, and it didn't seem to have any kind of impression on them.

*looks at everyone who posted in here* yep I weas right:wacko:

Like many have posted here before me, there are certain types of animated shows that are for kids only (friggin' Dora the Explorer) or only Adults (list nearly all of Adult Swim here). I think its pretty healthy for adults to enjoy a silly cartoon thats new or watch something like Looney Tunes (like Tripp said, Leopold by Bugs Bunny gets me every damn time) to unwind or remind themselves that just because you're not a kid anymore you dont have to be serious all the time.

Bonecrafting thread. D:

Shoot my grandfather is in his 80s and he still loves Tom and Jerry. Shoot I love Tom and Jerry. I find no age limit on cartoons. There are childesh ones but there are also childesh RL shows and movies as well. Its all content like everyone else on here has mentioned before me.
