I've already got it and i must say its a pretty epic game. The soundtrack works very well with this game and i just love it. This was my most anticipated game of this year and i most certainly was not disappointed.

Everything below based off the 360 version.

I like it for the most part, but it's plagued with problems that are genre standards by now. The camera being one of them and I wont go into that, we all know how that goes to some degree or another. The thing that really, really gets to me in this game are the QTEs. I hate QTEs more than anything, but this game has used them way to often and requires them to kill off certain mid-sized enemies you should just be able to slash down. That aside, the controls are way out of whack in some instances and that's a huge problem for me. In most games when the camera angle shifts at least durin' your already initialized push or pull on the stick, the memory sticks and you keep progressing as if your were movin' in the proper direction. They seemed to have forgotten to do that in this game. Another problem is the button recognition. While fightin' everything is spot on, but I noticed durin' a Titan fight, when they shake and you have to hold on, much like the circle matching QTE, simply pulling the trigger once to steady your hold wont always work I have to pull my trigger multiple times, sometimes in order to re-establish my hold. Like I said, a bit of the same scenario with the circle matching QTEs. Sometimes the system doesn't recognize my input until it's a fraction of a second to late.

My last huge issue. The game looks terrible, because they over did the HD. The bloom is way to jacked up and the rain, instead of having a water effect on the environment and people/creatures, looks like it's just pooring lubricant everywhere. I've played a lot of games where I thought they over did the HD, but this one takes the cake. On two occasions after playin' for less than an hour I developed a splitting headache, most likely due to the heavy bloom.

All of that aside, I think it's a fun game. It's part of my favorite genre so over time I've come to grips with the shit controlling in them and fine my pleasure regardless. That being said, if I wasn't such a fan of the genre I'd trash this game every chance I got. The level of challenge is also acceptable, which surprised me. I'm playin' through on Knight difficulty right now and based off it I can not wait to go through again on Paladin. This game really doesn't allow for you to button spam during combat like a lot others. Something else, I got a little mad when I crossed a checkpoint. I don't think checkpoints belong in a Castlevania game. However, if you're goin' to do it, I believe they handled it perfectly. So yeah, you hit a check point and then die a little after it. Usually you start from the checkpoint with full health in which allows you to just beat the hardest difficulties with relative ease, just by pinging the points. Well, in this game you only get the HP back that you had when you crossed. So if you hit that boss checkpoint with a sliver of life, you best get some damn game or you're in for a frustrated time.

All that said, I would only recommend this to Castlevania fans and most of them would probably be rather pissed at the direction of the game (so probably -lite- fans). For everyone else, I'd recommend Enslaved first, though I'm finding even on Hard it's terribly easy. I can't recommend the PS3 version of that at all though. Yeah, they killed down the motion blur, which is awesome, but Ninja Theory forgot to throw on the V-sync so it tears really bad. It also has some slowdown on the PS3 version.

Man, I love the Castlevania series, but I find it pretty difficult to get interested in this game. I know the common excuse, that GoW set the standard for action games yadda yadda, but growing up on epic RPGs that could easily hit 50+ hours of playtime, I find it hard to justify paying full price for a game that'll probably last me 30 hours at best.
I'll probably pick it up once either the retail price drops to an even 30 or I see a used copy for that price, but until then, I won't be rolling with this.

Haha I'm so used to playing GoW type games for my ps3 now though that something "only" 30~ hours seems like a lot now. I got it and I'm on chapter two and it's really fun so far. Can't complain about the graphics because I'm at college and am playing it on a pretty small tv.

I'm not gettin' that God of War vibe from it. Maybe from the over use of QTEs, but that's it, thankfully.

On an off note, I just realized the game was made by the same people who did that shitty game, Jericho. Kudos for them for the obvious step up, eh? Makes me wonder how bad it could have been and feel slightly better about it granted it's more of a gem than a log.

God of war vibe as in its that same genre. Battle systems a bit different though.

Battle system seems to have more resource management to me and that's a plus imo :P

Too bad Simon isn't the main character. He was a badass protagonist for the series.

The genre predates God of War. I guess -maybe- if God of War was your first. Personally, this game has me dyin' to boot up Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver again.

speaking of Kain, when they making another one of his series?

Huh? I was just saying God of War genre because you said you don't get the GoW vibe from it, and I said I do because its the same genre of game. I didn't say GoW is the first game of that type or anything like that <_<

Anyways I really like that you can redo any chapter section anytime you want. This keeps me from being OCD about grabbing everything and just being able to get stuff I missed later without replaying the whole game.

Semantics played into that. I really meant for that to be directed to this: "Haha I'm so used to playing GoW type games on my ps3..." Not that it matters I guess, different generations will relate it to different things, unfortunately for me, for you guys it is God of War :/

Horse poo pride for something not mine aside, I'm beginning to open up more to this game. Last night I caught myself actually havin' the same feeling I did as I played the the first Castlevania. Shits a lot better when you memorize QTE patterns. Every time I sense an environmental transition ahead I just get all giddy about what's next.

I understand that. I mean I'm used to play long RPG games too, thats what I grew up on, the ps1. But for my ps3, its mostly been games that last me 6-15 hours unless I do repeated playthroughs to collect stuff. I was just glad to see that apparently just 1 playthrough of this game will last 30 hours, which I haven't seen in any PS3 game other than FF13. I know there are others out there, I just haven't gotten around to them.

Yeah, it looks pretty long. I'm about to finish up chapter 2 on Knight and I've put at least 7 hours in to it and plenty left to find in the stages I have beat. These damn titan fights though, I swear they make the bulk of my time on a chapter. It's not that they are hard, which is what pisses me off. All it is, is a can you press RT at the right times enough times to win. I swear, I've gotten to the second seal on the second titan about 40 times now. Surround me with 3 of the bad ass Lycans in a box and all is well, make me do continuous QTEs and I'm junk.

Strid, from what I've seen/heard, the 360 version is inferior to the PS3 version. The graphics on the PS3 are excellent(I was impressed with the water effects on PS3), and there's been reports of a lot more bugs on the 360 version. You can download the PS3 demo from the European play station store if you want to try the demo for the PS3 to compare.

Obviously the action-adventure genre is composed of more than just "God of War-type games". I don't think anyone was arguing otherwise.

They both look the same best I can tell, but the 360 version has input issues, that's why the QTEs are way worse in this game than most. Normally you can make do, but with the titans there is little room for error on the RT grab once you get past the first seal, usually. It's a pain, but the game is worth it.

Eh, I'm glad they've left that series alone. It was already goin' to shit after Soul Reaver, we don't need it today, plenty of poo already out there without it adding to the pile. Now, want to re-make Soul Reaver? Bring it.

You'd be surprised. Honestly, with how most people are reacting to this game, you'd think god of war invented the genre and was the only game in the genre.
