Ok one time I was at the land of the noobs who cant voke (valkrum) and I checked this one guy (wont give names) and he told me
"dont check me"
"why?"
"its rude, ask permission before you check"
"ok.."
"how is it rude?"
"it gets annoying when a high leveld character is checked alot times"
So we talked a bit more

Later I was in a pt, and I accidently checked him without knowing it was the same person and he goes
"Welcome to Linkshell Blacklist" and he blisted me casue of it.

Whats your imput on the whole checking thing? Is it rude..or not?

I think it's just common sense you should ask someone before checking them, simply because they get a message they were checked. I think it's like blind invites. why not just ask before you send the invite? It's common sense.

I agree, but still..if you dont like it, just put the filiter on. I was thinking about it the other day.

Side note: Ok..im goin to valkurm..and...yagudos have invaded my path..someones after me x.x

I likes undressing peeps with my eyes but do tend to ask before I violate them

Sure little Miss.Streaker.

On the subject on hand, just turn off the comment, and youll never know.

Exactly. I check people for different reasons. Sometimes I want to see what a piece of equipment is. Sometimes I just want to see their title. I'm not asking anyone's permission to check them. They can filter it out if they get annoyed.

I filter examination and bazaar. You pay 15$ a month to do virtually whatever you want as long as it doesn't violate the user agreement. No where in the user agreement does it say "You must ask for permission before you check someone". Knock yourself out.

lol i hate when people do that and it is awkward when people say "Can i check you" i dont care but that guy has some serious issues ...

you can see level and mission rank via /search, which means the only reason to check someone is to see what they are wearing. Many people feel that therefore when they are being checked by someone the are judged based on their equipment. I don't get seriosuly offended when people check me without asking... but i do let them know it is considered rude to do by many players.

I don't really get the big deal.. if I'm not doing anything.. just running around or standing there.. check if you want.. I don't care.. if people are /anon and I'm curious what level they are.. I can look at the gear and the area they are in, etc and estimate

Turn on your filter if you think it's rude. And anyone that blacklists you for that isn't worth your time.

I have always been a fan of putting the filter on, you either enjoy getting checked, do not care, or despise it. If you despise it why the fuck isyour filter not on. I am going to check? Why because I can and it does not inconvenience you in the slightest. There is no invite to turn down or to fend off. If you have a problem with it you can kiss my white hairy ass.

I've heard this argument a million frickin times and there's one thing I have never heard answered: Why is it such a big deal to just ask them if it's ok? I've never had someone say no. It doesn't bother me, but at the same time I certainly do notice an often proportion of rudeness to checking. (no I'm not saying always but in most cases in my experience yes)

Just ask them first, what's the big deal? There is no reason you can't make the same argument about just sending someone a blind invite versus sending them the /tell "PT?" first. It's just a little online gaming courtesy. But no certainly not a blacklistable offense.

the thing is I do ask the people ^^ most of the time.. there are times they are running to fast and I can't check them and ask >< so.. it'd bother them to stop just so I could check... or if I'm half asleep and not thinking...

if you have a problem with somebody /checking you without asking, maybe you need to be doing other things with your time than playing this game?

somebody checks me, i couldn't care less

so why do you?

I dont run around checking people obviously, as I really dont care what gear somebody is wearing unless it happens to look like something I've never seen before and I'm curious as to what it is

and comparing a /check to a blind party invite, I dont see the comparison really

sending somebody a blind invite is basically telling somebody you want their services (whether is for EXP or help or whatnot), if you need somebody's help, you ask.

if you check somebody, you don't need assistance or any feedback at all from the person. and the filter can be disabled so you don't even see the message.

the way i see it, japanese people (for the most part) find it offensive due to their cultural diversity when it comes to politeness, a lot of NA players found it cool to act like the japanese in this respect and have adopted this attitude.

there are still some of us NA players left who simply don't care if they're checked.

wanna check me? go for it.

Edit: and i've been randomly examined by many japanese players (seriously, i have) without being asked permission, so they obviously don't all think this way. however i have been asked by one japanese player to check me, she's in my Sky LS (Miluti)

i like getting checked. i worked damn hard to get my equipment. i'm usually dirt poor so i'm proud i can afford some nice gear.

so please check! me and drool over my dual snipper's rings.

i used to check higher level ppl to figure out what kind of gear i should buy, now i get lower levels checking me all the time. i say let them learn.

when i wa a lower level it used to bug me because i though i was beign judged by my crappy gear, so i TURNED ON THE FILTER. but now the filter is off, and i get a warm and fuzzy when i see "Noob examies you." in the chat log.

i still check ppl with out asking, if i get blisted by them i probobly would not have wanted to talk to them anyways.

First off, you are admitting that most Japanese do consider it rude to check without asking. When you see some random person, do you know if they are Japanese or not? Regardkess of if it should offend them, we can all admit that it does. That being said, why not ask first? No one has really answered this question. Why not ask? Is it so hard to send them a /tell out of respect?

As to the first part, no I disagree. They are absoluately the same. You are requestion their services, and you are doing it just the same by the blind invite then you are by sending them a /tell and asking them to come. We can only agree that it seems "rude" to send them the blind invite. It seems rude to send a system message to them before any interaction. But how come so many people don't think it's rude until us "higher level" teach it to them? Why does it seem innately not rude? Because people lack the common sense to treat each other with the same respect in game as the would in the real world. Would you pop open someone's hood and check their engine because you're a mechanic and you're curiouis about a car you've never seen? I think you'd ask first. If you're not going to do anything to their car, why bother asking, when you can just look?Isn't a person's engine, specially if perhaps their car is shitty, their own privacy? Isn't a person's gear their own privacy, if it's very good or some crappy set.
If they're in your party, and they aren't doing their job, maybe a good checking is in order, because perhaps they are lacking something and need good advice. But just like you wouldn't go off on a rant on someone for an uncapped subjob, when they aren't in your party, you wouldn't tease someone about outdated gears when they have nothing to do with you. (If they wanted to make the argument their gears were actually better, then by all means argue)
