1) the ones who can have a discussion with people they disagree with and

2) the ones who are so close minded they just start insulting people because they can't defend their positions at all and they can't even open their minds to the possiblity of something other than what thieir own enclosed little world has already decided in the truth.


Unfortunately these majority of these boards are filled with more of the latter which is sad because it becomes a much more interesting world the day you pull your head out of the sand and actually start to look around.



Back on topic let me recap:

1) It is a good thing Chicago did not get the Olympics because they could not possibly handle the financial burden nevermind the urban chaos it would of caused. Nor do I as a tax payor what to get stuck paying the bill. For the love of god I'm being bleed dry enough as it. Any percieved boost is only temporary, with the jobs they generate lost once they leave.

2) Obama did not petition to get the Olympics because of some sort of pride he felt for America. Like every other politician, Dem and Rep, he could give to shits about America. This was solely a move to benefit him financially and to distract us from socialized medicine.

3) We had the Olympics here not that long ago, let someone else deal with the circus coming to town, the traffic, the $9 bottles of water, etc. Other countries should be giving the opportunity if they want to deal with the headache. It's best enjoyed from your living room anyway.

4) Obama sucks and in almost a year has accomplished virtually nothing (thank god).

This is something that has kinda been driving me crazy. You guys, on both sides of the coin, realize that the President is not God, right? The position of the President has almost very little powers actually spelled out in the constitution and overall has very little direct power to do anything. It is a position of influence over congress, but the majority of actual power still lies within congress. Our political system is far too complex on federal, state, and local levels to think that one person somehow has control over it all. Just because something goes bad or good does not mean that the President had anything whatsoever to do with it. Just keep this in mind when you guys talk about him, because its getting kind of ridiculous. Sure he can push his agenda on congress, but it is still on them to actually get it done.

My thinking you're full of shit aside, I *do* think it's far premature and a bit silly for the Nobel Peace Prize to be given to Pres. Obama. Not because he hasn't done anything, yes - his efforts deserve to be applauded. However, seriously? The man's been a world leader for 9 months.

Please don't fucking preach to me, you insult me and yourself in doing so. You have no idea who you are speaking to or what kind of knowledge I posess. Its like the god damn people who feel the need to preach to me about socialism when I tell them I voted for Obama, as if I didn't have an (it was quite extensive) educated opinion before I voted. Preaching is no way to communicate in a discussion.

If you could actually made a little bit of an argument it would be an interesting discussion. The disdain most government officials have for the Constitution is kind of funny over the course of our history. I always find it hilarious that we view Lincoln as always one of the top 3 presidents (Washington and FDR being the other two) despite his disregard for upholding the Constitution and doing pretty much whatever he wanted (some pretty terrible things, although we'll only remember the end and not the means). There were some disturbing things done during the last administration for war time powers and what not, which I'll always find amazing that anyone could be so stupid on either side. Consolidating power is never acceptable, especially in times of war given how things have worked out over the course of human history in similar circumstances.
