Child murder case shocks NZ court

Stereotyping is considered a logical fallacy.

As long as they aren't allowed to socialize with the rest of society, I don't really care what happens to them. Can't change what happened. That it doesn't happen again is what is most important IMO.

Because that's a bunch of bs, if she were some emotional idiot she'd be arguing on your side of the fence. She would be feeling sorry for the prisoners instead of saying they should rot without the excessive benefits they receive. Being a woman does not necessarily make you more emotional or empathetic.

I can't believe you have to ask why that would discredit you...
No where did I say it makes her an idiot. Additionally;

You think its disgusting and monstrous, and think he deserves everything that's coming for him. That he would be better off dead so he can not do anything like that ever again. And the following is not an insult: You're a woman. Once again, I don't mean that in an offensive way. Women have better empathy, especially when it comes to children and infants. Even though its not their own child, they can sypathize how it would feel to have that doen to their child.
Where in the quoted did I say she would feel sorry for the prisoners? I said children and infants. Is she not feeling sorry for the children and infants, as well as those effected by the death of the baby?

Stating women have more empathy isn't stereotypical. Saying all black people are criminals is, however. Empathy is developed by the fetus depending on the amount of oestrogen its exposed to, and is thus very different from person to person. Male fetuses are exposed to more testosterone, while female are exposed to more oestrogen, and thus develop better sympathy and empathy. That is, for example, why women are better then men at knowing how someone feel from looking at facial expressions. Male fetuses are exposed to more testosterone, and depending on how much, thus greater growth. Males have, for example, larger heart, liver and brain, and is, on average, 10% larger then women if memory serves me right.

The reason for the emotional difference is due to the way the brain is developed during the fetal stage.

There is, of course, females with lack of empathy and sypathic skills, while some men have more then your average woman, so in a way I suppose it is stereotypic. However, your average woman have greater empathy and sympathy then your average man.

One of the reasons they are put in jail is to punish them for what they did. Another is to keep them away from public, while the third is to try and get them to change. Prisoners that are addicted to drugs get offered treatments to overcome their drug addiction, and that is also why they are offered education. To give them a chance to start their lives anew and becoem a productive member of society. Jail isn't simply there to keep them away from the general public for most prisoners, it is there as a kind of rehabilitation center.

The problem is, that most people in the world view prisoners as something evil and bad. That they can not and will not ever change. Once a prisoner, always a prisoner. By not giving them a chance to prove that they have changed, and by makign them outcasts, they once again fall back in to their old habits. It isn't only their own fault, it is also the fault of those that refuse to give them a second chance.

While I agree with this to a point, and I understand it fully, there is a long list of prisoners that A) cannot be rehabilitated and B) do not deserve a second chance by the nature of their crimes alone.

That's the long and short of my feelings on that topic.

Ty Kero, I don't usually log in here when I'm not at work ;)

And I'm saying using any gender as an arguement of a point is wrong. Both genders are capable of the same feelings, and like I said, both genders have shared the same in this thread. I would say the same thing about these criminals if they killed an elderly person, middle aged person, teenager, whomever. People committing a crime of this nature deserve the worst possible punishment.

Of course. I'm of the opinion that someone that repeatedly rape, say, an infant can not be rehabilitated, and deserve any punishment coming for him. The point of prison is still the same, though. As we live in a world based on "forgiveness", second chances and equal value and oppertunities, it would go against our basic morals to deprive said prisoners of said things while in jail.

And yes, Mirewen. Of course. I never stated otherwise. By argument wasn't for females only, I just explained my view on it, and you being female was a good example of it. The core of the matter is that most people reason the same way, it was just simply easier to explain it that way.

I would be more inclined to say "society" because the world is hardly forgiving.

Well, yeah, society :p You still got my point though!
