I have a question about Chocobo genetics, when it comes to breeds/color.
As per the History of Chocobos info release by SE a while back, they explain how there are 5 different breeds of Chocobos.
In a nutshell, the basic traits of each breed are:
Destrier - Strong, and Black
Courser - Fast, and Red
Palfrey - Mid-sized and Blue
Jennet - Small and Green
Rounsey - Average and Yellow
Considering the vast majority of eggs seem to hatch yellow chocobo's (adult yellow, not just chick yellow) it leads me to believe that any of the races can be yellow, as well as the above listed color.
Now, I am currently raising my 5th Chocobo. My very first Chocobo was Yellow (Jeuno bought egg) and I breed it with a Friends Black Chocobo(also Jeuno bought), the offspring produced a black (M). I then raised this Black Chocobo, and breed it with another friends black chocobo. It took 3 or 4 chocobo love sessions, before this resulting chick ended up growing up black (F) as well.
I then raised this Chocobo, breed it back with her father :shok: and ended up getting another Black (F) chocobo.
I have also given out a few chococards, and the resulting choco's from most of these have been black as well.
So to me, it seems that my Chocobo's are of the Destrier breed... since all I have been getting is Black or Yellow.
I have now breed my Black Chocobo, with a friends Red Chocobo, (which according to SE, should be a Courser). It is still a chick now (M), but Kamp Kweh told me that the resulting offspring will also be back (fwiw).
Now my question is this, do chocobo eggs contain "DNA" in that my new chick is 1/2 Destrier, 1/2 Courser? So that no matter what color this chick grows up to be, it is possible that its offspring could produce a Destrier or Courser, i.e Black or Red?
There is obviously some genetic information in eggs, as you can pass abilities down from parents to chick. So I guess my real question is how much genetic info is stored in an egg, and how many generations can it be passed down?
Has anyone out there say, breed a Blue and Red Chocobo, and have a Black offspring? And if so, was there a Black Chocobo in the family history anywhere?
I know nobody really knows, but I am interested in hearing other breeders theories about choco-genetics
