Chronicles of Noobia

lol! Nice thread ^^ Makes me think of back when I was a clueless newbie. I'm still clueless though. Just can't call myself newbie anymore .....

I don't have stories of 'taking people under my wings' as I never thought myself as qualified to do that.. the following are all me.

Sold my first crystals to the Outpost in Ronfaure. I remember I was thinking how clever I was to run out to the Outpost and have the crystals sold for 1 extra gil.

At Dunes level, I told my LS that I think I'm going to be kicked out of parties... because my damage is much lesser the the WAR , MNK etc. I was on Red Mage btw.

At Qufim, I didn't have much money for gear and I didn't really know what to get, so I just got what I could and went to exp. Apparently my gear appaled someone in party so bad (Karrock btw) that it sparked a discussion in /tells between 2 of them. I only knew when I saw a MT that was :"Look at that composite circlet!" "MT" Karrock gave me 100k gil and told me to look at his gear. I have to say that was the turning point in my FFXI life. Never know what I'd be bumming around today if it weren't for that 100k back then.

And, one saving point (just to save my face) I never threw away beastmen seals. Fortunately I asked about it and was told NOT to throw them away.

This is a good thread, it really show's this game in it's greatest light. I don't have any story's of taking newbies under my wing but I can offer you a viewpoint from the other side.

It was around mid-January of 04. I was running around West Sarutabaruta as a level 8 Thief. I thought I had a pretty good grasp on things being the only one sporting the leather gear set at the appropriate level. Still had my onion knife though XD. So I commenced to killing DC's near the Tahrongi Canyon zone when I ran across a taru Red Mage, Chpal. We started to chat and next thing I know we're duoing our way through some good experience. Soloing as a Thief with no subjob is tough work, probably something I could never do now. Feeling cocky we decide to move onto Tahrongi Canyon. We're running through mobs when we run across, my personal hero even to this day, a Hume named Matrim. He joins us and the killing get's even better. I was having so much fun.

Then he hits us with an idea, "Want to go on a boat trip?" Me and Chpal jumped on the idea. He tells use to wait here while he changes jobs. Alright no problem. After a few minutes he arrives as his level 40 Warrior. My jaw dropped, oh the power. He blew us away, owning goblins in Bubumaru with ease. After we make it to Mhaura he tells us that he has to leave. I ask to befriend him, he accepts.

Unfortunately I lost touch with him after that, but to this day I still remember my first adventure with Matrim and Chpal and it stands out as my defining moment in Final Fantasy. What really caps this story off is Chpal guides me halfway through La Thiene and logs off to go to work. I was lost for days.

Don't be afraid to help out a newbie when you get the chance. You'd be suprised the impact you can have on them.

I like the subject of this thread. Too many of us go and ridicule a new player for their faults instead of taking the time to send a small /tell to give them a few pointers. I remember when the little "M" indicating that you were a mentor actually meant something. Anyway most of the people I mentor to pass me up in levels and own me... but the point is, if you have time to teach, please do...it will most likely save many exp points in the future

Like Macroing your mnk gear to make the most out your abilities Tarn?=P

you...are so lame..for bringing that up. get back on FFXI. we're waiting for you

After this week i should be back and you know I'm right!=P
