Star Wars purists take note: the original, unaltered version of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will be released on DVD this fall... just in time for Christmas. [ See article. ]
It looks like George Lucas finally gave in and accepted that the Special Editions, while nifty in some respects, should not be allowed to completely replace the classic theatrical releases many of us watched as children. You'll finally be able to retire your VHS tapes and watch Han Solo fire first.
Of the three, my favorite movie is still Empire and it's also the one which suffered the least from George's "tinkering." I liked the way he opened up Cloud City, etc. The other two Special Editions... not so much.
I know there's going to be howls about double-dipping, but I'm sure there are some out there who are pleasantly stoked by this announcement. Any thoughts?
