College Football- The Empire that is the SEC

Since ESPN seems to be THE opinion maker, I've heard several analysists on both ESPN radio and Game day say that USC would roll through the SEC. Now that this has degraded into the highly intellectual debate tactic of name calling and who's dad can beat up who, I'm going to step out and revisit this thread at the end of the season. It will give you plenty of time to come up with excuses.

The only way they "roll" through the SEC is if they didn't have a schedule like Georgia's or Florida's. No one will go undefeated in the SEC not even the powerful USC. It's simply to hard. Do I agree USC is the best team in the nation "at this moment" yes I do, they beat a OSU team that was suppose to be untouchable. Is the SEC the best conference? Yes it is hands down. But that doesn't mean other conferences are just down right shit.

I'd actually love to see them play an SEC schedule. That really would uncover how good they are or how bad they really are. As is, they play a schedule that's weak, you really can't deny that. So yeah, they're goin' to look extremely good like that. For all I know they could be good, deep down. However, their schedule doesn't show me they're the best team.

I'll tell you this too. I wont make any excuses at the end of the season even if USC ends up beatin' an SEC team for the championship. First of all, if you're wrong, your wrong. Secondly, they still played a weak schedule to get where they did while that SEC team had to go through hell to get there. Until the SEC conference gets plagued with weak teams I'll stay on my horse. When they (the SEC) turn into a PAC-10, if it ever happens, I'll be the first to give them shit and give the deserving conference props, that's how it's suppose to be and that's how I am.

I'm a die hard Atlanta Braves and favor the National League and I'll be the first to tell you the American League is where it's at this year, no doubt. Whoever makes it out of the American League on top is the best team in baseball this year, imo.

My poor Braves :(

We had it going into the year. Then the injury bug hit us. Smoltz done, likely for his career. Hampton, the biggest joke pitcher ever. That guy has been paid to do nothing since he's been there. 3 full years of NOTHING. Glavine injury. And list continues.

Maybe one year they'll get it all back together, maybe.

someone named a few teams that shouldnt even be ranked in the BCS because they are a joke. such as S.Florida, BYU, etc. i think ohio state and USC should now be added to that list. reason being is obvious. ohio state lost to USC and usc just lost to oregon state. time to hear all the fan boys start putting up excuses as to why USC lost....poor game, poor officiating...whatever. they lost to an unranked team. time to see how jumbled up the BCS gets now

Same thing might happen in the SEC as well because the top 5 teams are top 10 worthy. Looks like the national championship will definitely have a Big 12 team in it.

I love bein' right but to be proven right by something out of my power is even better. USC is not the best team in college football. I didn't think Oregon State had a chance, with them gettin' crushed by Penn State and loosin' to Stanford and all.

So much for USC being able to roll through the SEC...what a joke.

HAHAH Vanderbilt is way better then the Beavers. Hell Ole-Miss would give the Beavers a run, possibly even win that game lol.

This also why there should never be rankings till after week 5 or 6.

Yah I'd really also like to see a playoff type thing. Like January Madness or something! Could be epic.

Please god! I would be glued to the tv for a month solid....

Yup, USC lost. Can't say as I'm too upset by this. If LSU, Florida, and Oklahoma can lose to join USC, OSU (along with the inconsequential ND, Nebraska, and Miami), the teams I all hate will be done. Is it still too much to hope for for a nice say Georgia/Missouri title game? I know it's still way too early. I still stand by my stance though that the SEC is very good, but still overrated.

Overrated compared to what conference though? The Big 12?

Things can only be overrated if they're compared to something else. We know the Pac-10, Big 10, Big East, and ACC are all terrible compared to the SEC. So im guessing you're talking about the Big-12 then?

Well I think he's saying that everyone thinks the SEC is god like. But, in reality the SEC still has teams that could be beat by the weakest conference(ACC). But, the top tier teams of the SEC are untouchable compared to other conferences and that's why the SEC is so elite in the media eyes.

I'll name teams from the SEC that could finish first in the Pac-10, ACC, Big East, Big 10.

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Auburn (these teams could and probably would finish first in any other conference)

Vanderbilt, South Carolina could finish 2nd or 3rd in most of those conferences. Hell South Carolina might finish first in the ACC.

No other conference can boast that lol.

Yah definitely the ACC haha their awful.

Honestly, Florida may be the best of the bunch there. Georgia hasn't really done anything to impress me yet and I really question whether LSU's qb can be consistent enough for the duration. Again, it's all speculation though. No one knows and that's kind of the point I was trying to make. I'm not entirely sure that any SEC could make it through the BIG10 unscathed. Sure, it's easy enough to say it on paper, but on paper USC would never have lost last night either. Raise your hand if you knew USC would lose! (if I see a hand, I'll call you a liar.)
I just think it's a different game in the north where the elements really take a toll on the speed game. Hey, I really hope I'm wrong. I'm a Michigan fan first and foremost and I have resigned myself to the fact that they will suck nuts for at least 2 more years. But I gotta tell you, I really question how well it will work even once Rich Rod gets his system in place. I have no doubts that it will win some games, but I think it may hurt in the long run. It really only takes one stumble anymore to knock you out of the title hunt.

Yeah it will definitely take two years. Those players he has right now are not suited for his spread offense.

Matt Flynn last year didnt do great, but they still won the national championship. With LSU, it's always there defense and massive offensive line, which they have both again this year. Other then Tebow last year, a lot of QB's in the SEC never have super stats, or always look average because they go against the best defensives. In bowl games, those same average looking QB's look super when playing against non SEC teams.

Well, what worried me about Lee was his performance in the first half. It wasn't just not playing well, he was actually a detriment to his team. If he plays like he did in the 2nd half however, they will be fine. Only time will tell.

Watching the Florida-Ole Miss game. I realize that Tebow has horrible and I mean horrible QB mechanics. No way he's a NFL QB. Maybe if he put on some weight he could pull off TE.
