Common Courtesy

I'm sick of the lack of common courtesy anymore. I honestly wonder if the median age for this game is 12. A problem arises? Yell at that mother-f@#(*&! Lets insult him and sling mud all over his name! HAHA I'll tell all my friends and no one will ever like you nyah nyah!

Sigh...

Example Problem: Leveling on weapons in sauromogue at 30. A thf comes along and starts killing them while LFG. Not enough are popping for my party to chain. Puller goes crazy and starts cussing him out in /party. Other players agree and there is general resentment.

Solution: Me being the party leader, I told them to let me handle it. I sent the thf a tell explaining that we were exping here and asking him not to drive us out. His response? "Sure, sorry I didn't know."

Now if I told him "Hey dickwad, gtf off our mobs we are exp'ing here!" Like my party's general feeling was, would he have moved? No. I sure as fuck wouldn't move if someone told me that either. A little common courtesy solved the problem.

I'm Sick of seeing people screaming at each other and fighting like 5 year olds. People I KNOW are 19-25 years old argueing like little kids. Time out, chill, not everyone is out to get you. Give people the benifit of the doubt. Try courtesy. You'd be surprised at the results.

Now if the thf had told me "fuck you i'm killing all your mobs." after I asked him, sure he's an asshole and deserves to be shot down. But I've seen so many times no one giving the other guy a chance to explain himself. And accusing before asking is only going to put them on the defensive and more likely to lash back.

Example problem: Crawler's nest party, 2 groups in the 'secret tunnel'. We open the cermet door and sure enough theres a group there too. Before the whm even catches up (he was sneaking the others) the resident party demands we leave. Not asks, not inquires. /say Get the hell out we are exping here. I dont even get the chance to type /say just waiting for the whm to catch up, yeah its too full. He starts spamming "Get the hell out." like 16 lines of spam. We almost camped on top of them out of spite.

No Solution.

Both these things really happened in game to me in 2 different parties. I just think some of our flameboard readers might want to think about which choice they make most often. A little common courtesy makes everyone's gameplay more enjoyable.

Generally people do leave if you ask nicely.

I was in Boyahda doing skill ups and someone sent me a tell...

"Must you take all the XP MOBs?!"

I said, "No, we can move, but you could just ASK..."

It's that easy. Be nice. If the other guy is a prick and doesn't want to leave, despite your kind request, there's not much you can do.

I agree with you 100% on that. Look at all the hating we have on the server at the moment. People tell eachother "You should hate this person because they <insert reason here>" Doesn't matter if that person has never done anything to you or anyone you know...just so long as someone, somewhere at some time in the past felt they were wronged. Whatever happened to the old forgive and forget? People need to let it go and enjoy the game and most of all stop trying to ruin it for others because of some slight or imagined wrong-doing. Your thief is a perfect example...he didn't take offence because you were polite and he simply moved on to something nobody was fighting...if everyone were to do that we could enjoy the game alot more. Thank you.

you play ffxi as its a game
so just play the game and try not to give other people a hard time doing what they want to do

It's kindof a 50-50 shot (well, not quite that close) on if people will move or not. It is nice to see that some people are willing to move (like one NPC Xper in Toraimarai, didn't know I was actually doing on BST in the room he was starting to clear ;.; )

Though there's probably a good percentage of idiots who won't move nomatter how nice you are...maybe some people don't wanna take the chance of having their good attitude shot down by a jerk? (Or maybe they're just naturally turds themself..dunno)

Mistaya! :3
but yeah, I've had that problem many times. The trouble is, it's hard to auto-tranlate when you ask people to move. SE should add another 200 phrases I think..

People are generally nice if you ask them politely. When Neyla and I were leveling BST, there were several times where someone would come along and start farming our xp mobs or our pets. I was polite in asking them to move along, and about 95% of the time they would.

I've found that saying in Auto-Trans "Excuse me, Beastmaster Camp ;-; Please forgive me" works very well. Though changing Beastmaster to Party wouldn't really have the same effect, I don't think..

(To anyone who's gonna make jabs at the silly autotrans, it basically translates into saying the person's at a BST camp, sorry for the inconvenience)

If the guy was JP i'd probably do...

[excuse me] [i'm sorry] PT [experience points] ; ;

and then /cry at them. and possibly point at the monsters.

People aren't stupid they get it :P

Yah.....I hate our auto-translator.....much easier just to learn common japanese phrases..... but then again....just cause they dont speak english doesnt make them japanese.

In the end......I think ( in my opinion ) that the majority of players who dont have any common courtesy would be young kids that play this game. One reason I hate playing this game on holidays when kids are off from school. They all come in masses to infest the server......wearing crappy equip......dont know what the hell their doing......and many are not polite by no means.

This is not to say that every kid is like this.....just most.

Because 99% are little punks who think they're tough for saying 'wut', wear their hats sideways and can recite 2/3 the Eminem songs AND have beaten all the Tony Hawk games?

"Did you hear? Billy got sent to timeout TWICE yesterday!" "Boy, that kid's tough!"

I guess you haven't played many online games.....

I was on b.net for years. I finally left after getting FFXI. Not becuase the games got old, I've been playing them all for over a decade now. It was becuase of all the punk ass teenagers on there. The average age has to be around 14, and I'd say 90% of the server are complete idiots.

I've only had one confrontation the entire time I've played this game, and that is only becuase I was in a bad mood, and let some l33t wanna be push my buttons.

The majority of the people I've met have been very polite, and seem to go out of their way to help others. So, because of this, as soon as I lvled pld high enough to get cure 2 I've spent quite a bit of time in West Ron healing, protecting, and casting shell on people lvling new jobs. Heck I've even adopted a newb a couple times. I gave them some gil, some advice, and some quick xp.

All we can do as individuals is be kind to eachother, and ignore those that are not.

b.net....is that like warcraft frozen throne? i dont like the rude people >.< lol

Nice examples Mistaya. I definitely agree with everything you've said.

Even more iritating.....

the 12 y/o masses running around in better gear than you after playing for a short time. I don't know about you... but I would never spend 100's of dollars on gil for my child. Young kids are running amok in real life, showing no respect for anyone. Why would it be any different in a MMORPG?

lmfao, best post evar.

one time, I was partied in Valkurm, long time ago with some randome job, maybe ranger.

Anyway, some Drk was standin on the beach killin pugs and snippers while lfp like an asshole. So we go through the whole askin him to stop bit. Failed.

So I looked up a friend of Mine that was his level and already in a party, and told him what was goin on. I got him to invite the dude to a party as a replacement.

So this guy death ports back to jeuno, and when he gets there, My friend says to him. "No party for you, you shouldn't fuck with people no matter what level they are."

After that, I sent him a great big <(^.^)> so he'd know who did it to him.

all he said was "touche..."

Good times.

And is it me.....or does the majority of ppl who leave their Mentor flag up are complete noob moronic douche bags? I mean....hey....at least it makes it easier for me to pick out who I dont want in my pty the second I see that Mentor flag.
