I think the ignore function has a fundamental flaw that no forum can overcome.
If I, for example, really fucking hate Tyrath... (I don't, lol)
2 things are possible.
1) We have this super-ignore, and then I can't see threads he starts, or anything of that nature.
Then one day he starts a thread about... I don't know, jogging. At some point in the thread, a second else says, "By the way, Firestreak rapes children."
Then a third person says, "If Firestreak doesn't lust for 10 year old ass, why hasn't he responded here?!?!"
Yeah, in that specific case, people would say, "Yeah maybe he doesn't feel it's warranted, or hasn't read the thread, ext."
But sometimes threads get pretty freaking big, and if they're in a section a poster goes to regularly, people assume they have seen it. Like if something in the gaming section is 20 pages, everyone knows I've read it. So yes, this is actually a pretty valid concern.
And if we use our classic, weak-ass ignore. Then Tyrath starts a thread, "Firestreak is a communist." And I see the thread, and get annoyed, since I have to unignore if I want to defend myself.
Then there's the universal problem of... I'm in a thread, and Tyrath pops in and goes, "Man, I hear Firestreak thinks Transformers is a better movie than Terminator 2." Someone else quotes him and responds, "Man, Firestreak sure has shitty tastes in movies." And I am effectively in the conversation as if I'm not ignored.
My point being... the ignore function in general logically doesn't work. Tinkering around with it won't help. Just because you don't SEE the thing being posted, it's still being posted if the person isn't banned. If they aren't breaking the forum rules, don't be a pussy and live with it.
In both cases,
