Since Mar. 9, 2007, some players have experienced connectivity issues when attempting to log in to FINAL FANTASY XI or while traveling through various areas in FINAL FANTASY XI. We are happy to announce that the situation has improved over the past few days.

While our team of technicians have investigated and confirmed that our FINAL FANTASY XI servers are currently working properly and our service is not experiencing any technical difficulties at this time, we will continue to investigate the matter and work to ensure the best service possible.

If you are still having connectivity issues, try connecting to FINAL FANTASY XI again at another time or contact the Playonline Information Center.

We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you
LIES.

If it was a problem on their end, everyone would be affected. What part of that isn't making it's way in to peoples brains?

What part of no problems until patch don't you understand?

It's a big world. Anything can happen over a time frame of seven hours of any given day. It's a coincidence. Nothing more.

If people seriously believe it's a problem with the patch, have they tried to just reinstall? Thats the easiest way to confirm they downloaded something that was corrupted. You know, besides ignoring the hundreds of thousands of people who got the same exact files and still manage to play just fine.

Yet you can't play on the old dats seeing as though you have to upgrade as soon as the new dats are out. From the problem I read the issues seemed mainly with cable internet users. I don't view this as coincidence seeing as though after larger patches in the past there was never nothing like this problem before even when FFXI was at it's peak of population on servers.

I'm on Cable. Only connection issues I've had were today... when my internet went out twice for a few seconds each time, likely due to the 2 inches of ice that dropped from the sky and this area having pretty awful wiring strung around.

Are your lines underground or above?

Yeah, edited that in for clarity. Regardless, it was a total connection loss. To everything. Not just FFXI. My connection light was off.

That has nothing to do with FFXI connectivity issues. That was your internet service going out because of weather conditions interfering with communication to your cable internet supplier. There have been plenty of times where that has happened to me because I have Suxcast.

There were accounts of people able to access internet and other things, but FFXI. That is a clear hint that it isn't user ISP side. Like I said SE never owns up to when they messed something up. Did they do it intentionally? No. Could they have fixed it? Yes. The issue was sending and receiving packets between user and server side. That shouldn't have been said. Or files just weren't working right for certain zones, but if different zones it has to deal with the communication of packets being sent and received. This error only occurred for maybe 25% of the population of the game, but none the less happened after patch.

SE shouldn't have handled this issue, where 25% of their players couldn't or can't play, so poorly. The sad part is the customers still have to pay 15 dollars when they missed a week OR more out of the billing for the month of March. Would you find it fair to be paying $15 for something you can't use? Or is shitty service to be expected everywhere now?

I think we can all agree that SE never owns up to issues and say Oh it's not our fault.

If it was an issue with their servers, where everyones connection passes through, everyone would be having the issues. But they aren't. The problem lies with one(or more) of the numerous gateways your connection gets routed through to get to their servers. End of story.

If someone want to whine about SE not fixing that, they should also whine to firefighters for not stopping criminals. Because you'd be displaying the same kind of idiocy in both cases.

I know my net went out. Thats why I said it. I was stating that regardless of being on cable, everything is fine for me with FFXI except when my cable hiccupped.

Also, the problem seems to be getting fixed. Almost miraculously, since SE hasn't done anything to fix it. If it was an issue with them, and they were the ones fixing it, the servers would have come down for a few moments here and there.

Like I said, it's entirely a coincidence that it's happening, and people need to quit crying to SE to fix a sprinkle of issues over the vastness of the internet for them.

If people are still oblivious as to how this problem can (and most likely is) not a problem on Square-Enix/PlayOnline's end: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/internet-infrastructure.htm

It even comes with nice animated pictures if you don't feel like reading.

The internet was designed to work even after a nuclear holocaust hit the usa or at least damaged alot of the comunications systems. Somehow I doubt it will spontaneously break. Even if one part of the backbone does break your computer will request to have the packets sent again that's missing and it will get sent to you via another route.

So unless the a large chunk of the internet backbone broke for no apparent reason and noone else noticed or can detect it except people on ffxi I doubt that this somehow isnt SE related.
The other option is a bunch of servers ect that were transfering packets all decided to boycott square enix or all MMo's in general but if this had happened to WoW there would probably be something announced by blizzard trying to resolve it.

Idunno, me and Ran have had no issues at all. You really can't say with any confidence that is their fault.

Yes, that is assuming it actually breaks. Which we don't know if it did.

You can see it as a huge tunnel. When the tunnel collapses, people will find a way around it. If it doesn't collapse, but there's a huge event on the other side, resulting in 1 million people going through it at once, it'll be hard ot get through. Its still possible, it just takes time.

My guess is it didn't really break. For whatever reason its just clogged up. Also, if it did break, that's still not a guarantee packets would get re-routed. As mentioned in the other thread, if you have a router and put a network cable in it, and cut the cable off, as long as one end is inserted to the router, it'll still attempt to send iformation through the cable.

Either way, I thought we concluded in the other thread that it wasn't SE's fault? Why are we having this argument again?

Do we really have to start this up again >.>

Just like everyone that tried to install FFXI over Vista had the exact same issue with the game right? Oh wait, some people had no issues and others couldn't log in, that couldn't have been software issues or anything because not everyone experienced the problem. Must have been local ISP's or gateways or something.

well i couldnt log in, i set my DHCP to be static and enabled DMZ and it worked, reverted to old settings with new stuff applied and still works. Put everything back to where it was and was getting R0's again, looks like the problem was on my end.

well, the people that do have problems want a finger to point, but they refuse to point it at themselves because, you know. Self never does anything wrong.

lol, really. People are dumb for accusing SE of the problems. If it IS only a couple people with the problem, and if a couple people HAVE fixed this problem by changing things CLIENT SIDE, WHY cant you people get the picture??

Yeah man, we got torn up with some ice. Me and my buddy mike were getting D/Ced every three minutes because of it, me thinks. I dunno, hopefully it's better tonight. I don't feel like going out for St. Patty's day. Keeping people alive on whm while drunk is far more entertaining.

So you want to pin people's problems with Vista on SE because ancient installs, not designed for Vista, wouldn't work? What a travesty. Why not go buy a European appliance, and complain that you can't plug it in to your wall socket here in the States?

edit: No company is obligated to make sure their product works on every OS. Only the ones they advertise it being compatible for. No where has SE stated the game has Vista support yet, nor do the game boxes say it'll work for Vista.

I suppose it's SE's fault that the game doesn't run on Linux and Apple machines(that aren't emulating Windows XP) too. Right?
