Connectivity Issue Update (Mar. 16)

I acutally had no R0 problems after update

I had some heavy lag here and there but I wasnt affected

Actually we received a reply today to kams letter to square enix. They had their technicians look at their servers an everything is okay but they are aware of a connection problem in the ISP that they use to connect from their US and EU servers to the JA one, which is where everything happens I suppose.

So SE isn't directly to blame. Hope that helps.

Why is this still a topic? Whatever the issues were, and I was having them as bad as anyone, were fixed a few days ago. I'm not having the R0 problem anymore and almost everyone who had it shouldn't be anymore.

If this was a free service then maybe I'd agree that SE wasn't obligated to do anything. But as long as I'm paying $15 a month I expect to be provided a service that works. And if it doesn't either fix it or provide me a solution on how to. Not this bullshit "it's not our problem" when I changed nothing on my end so it sure as hell isn't mine. How you can chalk this up to coincidence with the timing of the update blows my mind.

FYI: Most of the problems were in conquest areas so a lot of you monkeys claiming you had no problems so its not SE's fault probably never even bothered to leave the TAU area to see if you were even affected.

So, Tomasello. Would you demand a refund from your internet provider if your power lines were knocked out?

Dont remember every place I've been in the past few weeks after the update but I've been around TAU, Nashmau, dunes, rolannberry, etc.

some of us just got lucky?

100% agree. Dead horse. Getting to the point of annoying.

As for the second part of the quote I also agree more on a technical stance. Since I'm a dumbass, I went ahead and asked my networking professor what he thought - and he jokingly blamed it on Verizon since they were the only provider not having problems. He told me it sounded like this: Of the several connections SE has to the internet, one provider was either dropping packets or malfunctioning resulting in packet loss. He said the most that SE would be guilty of, would be a network structure in which 1 point of failure would exist under certain conditions.

Can't blame this error on SE or their servers. You can blame SE for their lack of guarantees in their system.

So you want to pin people's problems with Vista on SE because ancient installs, not designed for Vista, wouldn't work? What a travesty. Why not go buy a European appliance, and complain that you can't plug it in to your wall socket here in the States?

edit: No company is obligated to make sure their product works on every OS. Only the ones they advertise it being compatible for. No where has SE stated the game has Vista support yet, nor do the game boxes say it'll work for Vista.

I suppose it's SE's fault that the game doesn't run on Linux and Apple machines(that aren't emulating Windows XP) too. Right?

I thought they did advertise Vista compatibility with one patch. The main point is that not every hardware configuration will react the same to every piece of software. Some will fail while others see no problem.

The people that have fixed their problems have changed configurations that the average person shouldn't be messing with. They did something to curtail the changes that the last patch made. You shouldn't have to reconfigure to bypass features of a patch, the point of the patch is to fix issues, not create them.

they advertised they were working on a version compatible with vista, not that it was being implemented that patch.

No but I would expect an explaination why for example my Comcast cable worked but why my HBO, channel 7, TNT and Discovery Channel weren't working.

Lets try to keep the analogies similar....

It would seem what I said about the problem with this, turned to be right on the money.

yay for technical stuff

I am. It's not Square-Enix that's causing the problem, but an outside source. Not being able to use your internet because your electricity is out is very much the same. The service is still working, you just don't have access to it.

It would be like, to use my example again, comcast saying, "It's not our fault your HBO is not working, it must be HBO themselves take it up with them."

I think the reason most people are upset, including me is the way they handled it. "It's not our problem, so try to log in later" when 25% of the population is reporting problems is the most assinine thing I ever heard.

EVEN if it genuinely wasn't, and I don't believe for a second it wasn't, either provide us a reason why or make an effort to help fix it considering it's there consumer base who was suffering. SE is just another greedy corporation who didn't want to hurt there profits to spend a little money to help out there customers.

Ya, I know big surprise...

from what I heard some other game files got mixed in with the ffxi update and since they updated there system few weeks prior they was not effect, so for all they knew it was not there problem because they was not having issues. Seem they finally fixed all bugs though so.. what can you do.

"They finally fixed," but without any work? There's been no additional file updates, no area/servers being taken down. People should really be able to put 2 and 2 together at this point and realize it wasn't an issue with them.

well i never had a issue didnt disconnect once, just something I was told that some of front mission files got mixed in with the update my guess is they just removed the files and now works good.

Next time SE's servers actually do go down, I'm going to hold you responsible and demand that you fix it.
Yes, you personally.
Because despite the fact that you are an unrelated party, I feel you should be held accountable whenever my service is disrupted. It only makes sense after all.

Sorry to quote you again after neophytal... but I love what you said!

Everyone who has been having connection problems wants SE to say that there is a problem. The problem doesnt have to be on their end or whatever, but just for them to say that there is a problem. Not to say, "oh everything is perfectly fine, try later"

We all know by human nature some want to kick a man when hes down, but come on, you people who werent experiencing any problems sure like to make smart ass comments stating the obvious.

SE has only said "There is not a problem with our servers.", which is true. They DID acknowledge the problem.
"Since Mar. 9, 2007, some players have experienced connectivity issues when attempting to log in to FINAL FANTASY XI or while traveling through various areas in FINAL FANTASY XI."
They just, rightfully so, aren't taking the blame for it.
