Hi gang. There are a couple of things that I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention since this is a hot topic.

There will be some rule changes in the next week. We have a mod coming in that will allow everybody to view reputation left by whoever via their member page. This means that you will be able to PM a mod/admin if you receive a harsh comment and we will be able to easily view them. That does mean that the rep up and down will be enforced with our guidelines now since it will be publically viewed. I have been reviewing a lot of people's accounts and have been frankly shocked at the way people use this board to rate people. I can start to understand why new people who come to this board...quickly leave. This is also a sort of warning because I am starting to see the cons of the reputation system and have enough reasons to let it go for good, however I won't for the time being. I would like to see how the new way goes. So be on the lookout for that.

Also, there is a new usergroup. It is for people to view the FFXI Linkshell area only. This is for members who have been banned but still use the linkshell area mainly for items. It will need an administrators approval before a previously banned member can join that usergroup. There will be certain examples where they will stay banned, but no one should worry about that.

With that, we are still in the process of receiving a mod to be able to ignore the moderators of the private LS boards.

With the newly placed ignore system (which I believe does ignore rate ups/downs as well), I think this is completely pointless.
 
PMs should follow the guidelines, regardless. Harassing anyone on the site through any of the sites methods should be restricted. I cant imagine why anyone would want any form of harassment to ensue, anyway.

Problem fixed. Nothing more needs to be done.

Yes stops you from seeing them however does not stop them from giving them to you. since they effect your points you know when you get a rate down by that person. Tested it on myrrh

What's a rate down matter when you don't care about the rep system anyways?

Not to mention, if you can't see their comment, it'll just be a comment-less rate down. Nothing wrong with that...
 
Actually, the thing Tyrath is saying that since you can ignore nearly everyone now and it won't stop rate downs what's the point of making rep comments public?

The only thing that will stop is someone leaving a super bad comment there. You'll still get rated down and if someone hates you enough to do that anyways it's safe to assume you'd have them ignored so it's pointless. This won't stop rate downs at all. Whether or not someone wants to insult you it'll happen anyways.

My issue was with people that contentiously rated people down for no reason. Like myrrh here. Heck I say strike the system all together but, if they are going have it, it should be patrolled just like any other forum.
 
Yeah, I think this idea of public reputation is ridiculous. There are some things that should be public and some things that remain private, and in my opinion, reputation should be private.

What does a GM in FFXI tell you when you report someone for harassing? They tell you to blacklist the person. Its the same concept here.

You add in a great system (ignoring ppl) and then you try to add in a system which completely ignores the previous system. I don't get it.

Then if that the case they should make it so be ignoring them it stop all actions all together, because contentious rate downs is still harassment seeing them or not.

Exactly, they use the same mentality. Ignore the problem instead of fixing it. In fact, the majority of people think that way because they dont want to take time and/or effort to actually fix problems that persist.

This is going to be one of those elementary things, and all you "cool" and "asshole" kids are going to just brush it off, but people arent going to be nice on their own.
 
Hey Hellstorm, while we're at it let's get Sculli back here so he can ban anyone who tells you off or says the "F" word near you.
 
This really is beginning to get ridiculous.

Whatever the solution that Miros etc. propose, someone feels the absolute need to make some kind of complaint about it. It really is a case of: "Ok, let's try this and see if it works" which immediately becomes; "Whine whine whine".

It isn't necessary to the function of the board, everyone bring up issues about it in some kind of way. It seems to me to be causing a lot of work for the Admins/Mods, and I keep seeing how "nobody really cares about rep" in posts.

Please just do away with the reputation system.
 
This isn't the mods fault, fault falls solely on those who have used the rep system to stalk and harass people for no good reason - sometimes even bringing up real life issues, which frankly wasn't what the rep system was for. See a recently posted flameboard thread for a good example. The rep system wasn't meant to be a tool to get digs in on people that normally would of gotten you banned - it was meant to separate the people who post good content and reward them, and do the opposite to those who spam retarded shit.

I'd like to see the rep system stay the way it is but certain users seem incapable of using it properly and are ruining it for the rest of us - you know who you are.
 
How about people just learn to deal with a fucking red dot and a sentence of stupidity. As many of you people that think people are red dotting you is harrassment, chances are you really deserve the thing.
