While the attempt to divert this to a "what should a RNG sub in such a situation" question is amusing, it still remains that:
- PLDs used to be able to get by just fine on 3 MP/tick from a RDM or BRD while only rarely needing to rest, and anything else on top of that was luxury (and/or *never* needing to rest).
- ToAU mobs are squishy, so that's even more of a luxury now.
- Auto-Refresh + Parade Gorget + Sanction Refresh = 3 MP/tick *before* factoring in RDM/BRD/COR. 2 MP/tick at 85%-100% MP, but your MP is high in that case so who cares.
- Consequence of above: a PLD should not need to rest too much in a ToAU party at that level even without a refresher, and should certainly not need to be resting even when the pull arrived.
- Depending on party setup, either the main tank or the first voke (*shudder* at that concept but never mind that) should, upon party chat pull announcement, be up on their feet and:
1. Target the pull. A "/target <bt>" macro works wonders for this, as does "/assist insert-name-of-puller-here".
2. Spam voke. If voke's cooldown isn't up (which can only happen for a very close pull *and* if you're careless about the previous mob's health and voke just before it dies), spam something else, such as Flash for PLD or a debuff for NIN.
Therefore, a competent PLD will a. not need to be resting when the pull arrives and b. slam voke on the mob as soon as it gets into range (not "as soon as it gets to camp", since that's later).
Only exceptions are when pulled ranged attacking mobs, in which case you have to control your habitual voke-spamming as described above, and wait for the mob to get where you actually want it to end up (as the puller keeps running *past* the camp), *then* voke.
If a PLD can't do that, then in that regard they are incompetent. They may or may not be any good in other regards such as decent gear, good hate-holding, or the ability to actually cure someone other than themselves. But the above process of getting hate on an incoming pull is *very* simple and easy to do. Spam one macro till you have a target, and spam another macro (usually voke, sometimes something else) until it works. *Not* hard.
A little slowness is forgivable if the puller pulled a mob by aggroing it rather than actually doing anything to it, since <bt> and /assist macros won't work in such a case. But even then it shouldn't be a delay of more than a second or two to manually pick a target to voke with <stnpc>.
EDIT: With extra fast-paced parties where the next mob is already there waiting and napping by the time the first mob dies, it's better to simply be aware of your surroundings and use a provoke/flash/whatever <stnpc> macro on the new mob when it arrives.
