Craventigress

This may be true, but I was more or less referring to the OP, who had the same problem with her in a different party.

I kinda figured thats what you were going after. But with this other thread it shows Icewolf knew of how she played but STILL decided to sub war. So he knew of the problem and decided to make it worse. Why? Sounds like a griefer to me.

Some people get better in 30 levels...and then there is Craventigress apparantly lol.

Still shows he knew. It isnt anyone elses fault he didnt come prepared. If a colibri attacks every 2-3 seconds and eats 1 shadow per hit, that leaves PLENTY of time for anyone to voke/flash or whatever they have to do.

If he woulda came prepared, this topic wouldnt even be here. Case Closed, im done with this thread.

She was 60.

She was 59 and apparently within the last hour or two before the flame probably hit 60. Slight difference. If she attempts to advance past lv 60 before getting the body armour especially with help coming her way soon then I have nothing to say about that.

By this level, i'm sure everyone is convinced that they know how to play their own job. (i'm sure we've all been there at some point). What gets me is the fact that she would not listen to what I had to say, or would at times just downright ignore me. I get the feeling that I was being ignored for the simple fact that I was a healer, and you know "wtf did i know about tanking". I just wish that this sort of attitude towards other players would cease to exist. But i'm asking for too much.

and I don't know about everyone else, but I refuse to level a job if I don't have the correlating gear for the upcoming level. I mean especially if it's Artifact, in which case doesen't cost a dime (excluding the Aht Urghan jobs). And to be pld and not have the key body piece in this situation is a HUGE HUGE no-no...

While the attempt to divert this to a "what should a RNG sub in such a situation" question is amusing, it still remains that:

- PLDs used to be able to get by just fine on 3 MP/tick from a RDM or BRD while only rarely needing to rest, and anything else on top of that was luxury (and/or *never* needing to rest).
- ToAU mobs are squishy, so that's even more of a luxury now.
- Auto-Refresh + Parade Gorget + Sanction Refresh = 3 MP/tick *before* factoring in RDM/BRD/COR. 2 MP/tick at 85%-100% MP, but your MP is high in that case so who cares.
- Consequence of above: a PLD should not need to rest too much in a ToAU party at that level even without a refresher, and should certainly not need to be resting even when the pull arrived.

- Depending on party setup, either the main tank or the first voke (*shudder* at that concept but never mind that) should, upon party chat pull announcement, be up on their feet and:
1. Target the pull. A "/target <bt>" macro works wonders for this, as does "/assist insert-name-of-puller-here".
2. Spam voke. If voke's cooldown isn't up (which can only happen for a very close pull *and* if you're careless about the previous mob's health and voke just before it dies), spam something else, such as Flash for PLD or a debuff for NIN.

Therefore, a competent PLD will a. not need to be resting when the pull arrives and b. slam voke on the mob as soon as it gets into range (not "as soon as it gets to camp", since that's later).

Only exceptions are when pulled ranged attacking mobs, in which case you have to control your habitual voke-spamming as described above, and wait for the mob to get where you actually want it to end up (as the puller keeps running *past* the camp), *then* voke.

If a PLD can't do that, then in that regard they are incompetent. They may or may not be any good in other regards such as decent gear, good hate-holding, or the ability to actually cure someone other than themselves. But the above process of getting hate on an incoming pull is *very* simple and easy to do. Spam one macro till you have a target, and spam another macro (usually voke, sometimes something else) until it works. *Not* hard.

A little slowness is forgivable if the puller pulled a mob by aggroing it rather than actually doing anything to it, since <bt> and /assist macros won't work in such a case. But even then it shouldn't be a delay of more than a second or two to manually pick a target to voke with <stnpc>.

EDIT: With extra fast-paced parties where the next mob is already there waiting and napping by the time the first mob dies, it's better to simply be aware of your surroundings and use a provoke/flash/whatever <stnpc> macro on the new mob when it arrives.

He was trying to pump out higher DMG output to make kills faster thus helping the party.

You seem to forgive your friend for sucking and blaming him. It isn't farfetched most players will get better over 30 levels. Hell, some WHM i partied with at 52ish got better by the time we were level 58.

Not having gear is often forgotten when you play the job right, but if you don't have the gear AND suck, it magnifies your wrongs even more.

You keep saying "if he was /nin", well I got an if, how about if he was a DRK? Would you expect him to /nin, or her to voke before he gets eaten?

The fault is on her, she needs to see whats going on and adjust, instead she kept sucking. You keep on defending gimps, I'm sure the jins or BDS will be recruiting soon.

100% agree, I hold hate against DDs fine at my level, a bad tank shouldn't have to make the DDs gimp themselves so they do less damage, if a PLD has full AF gear, that is about 8+ emnity(I believe), holding hate with vokes/flash/cures should be no problem then.

Craventigress is bad at FFXI anyway. /shrug

Gah you just keep repeating yourself. When I partied with her in the citadel, there was a thf, and a sata setup. So there was no way for me to know she didn't know how to voke a pull. I don't know if you've ever exp'd on colibri's, but they basically surround you. Your acting as if I told her to run out and voke pull birds...no, I said voke pull if they are withen range, otherwise I will pull.

Good, leave. Your retarded little friend defense isn't working here. You weren't at the camp at the time, so you have no right to claim what happened there.

TL: DR

Anyways, I had this person in party about a week ago. Was honestly the most paper thin pld I've ever had. Didn't use food (were fighting puks, so losing food wasn't a problem), never used defender, never used sentinel, and never used shield bash. Was getting hit for 250~ a hit. I was pulling on thief, and would get hit about 3-4 times before they would voke (at camp). Our samurai explained the usefulness of food and JA's to them, but still no change happend.

On top of that, they left after only about 30 minutes of partying after we had to baby them through the zone seeing as we didn't have chocobo in al zhabi and Craven didn't have snk/invis items (we were already at camp when we invited).

It's not like we were too low for the zone either, because after she left we got another pld that was 30x more effective.

Craven's a nice person, just needs to listen/know more about pld.

Fixed it for you.

I was tanking Colibri on PLD yesterday with a crazy-slave-driver SAM/WAR taru that pulls a new bird before we finish our current ones.

I don't think /war is an issue as long the tank is ready to voke as soon the mob is in range, only problem is when he pulls a bird that is far away (all i do is just run towards him and voke before the bird kills him). We were pulling 7-8k exp per hour without ring yesterday, thanks to that crazy puller lol :D.

If you take forever to voke as tank when you are below 20, it's understandable, if you take few seconds to voke below 40 then ermm it's ok. If you take forever to voke at 60, then seriously you need to fix that macro of yours, <bt> <stnpc> <Yes, Please>.

On side note, i never rest for mp at all, no uber gears either just IM. Cuirass, 3 tick from parade, auto-refresh, Sanction and another 3 from RDM. Whenevr i'm low on mp, i just pop in Sentinel so the mp tick can catch up or just wait for mage to pop a Cure3 at me then my mp back into good states ^^b.
