It doesn't serve to benefit anybody to berate them. But this aside, the person was right in, at least in principal.
What armor/weapons did you have? You really MUST keep up with armor, weapons, etc. A lot of people hate it. But let me assure you that gil doesn't rain from the sky for the rest of us either.
The mnk is probably one of the less expensive jobs to level. At lvl 27 you should own a full outfit of Beetle Armor (I can't remember what level that kicks in because I'm not looking at it right now, but I think it's around lvl 24) and Lynx Baghnakhs (which I know are lvl 24 - you'll love 'em. Respectable damage, but REALLY AWESOME delay time - delay is a mere 30. I can't think of any other weapons that have such a low delay.
None of this stuff is particular expensive (not any more than other armor and weapons at that level - it's not like we're telling you to go buy a pair of leaping boots at 250k).
Speaking of leaping boots, don't just write-off the idea of ever buying bonused items. Bonused items are expensive, but it's nice if everyone who's serious about a job tries to manage to afford at least ONE item that gives their job a nice little bonus advantage. I've played in parties where everyone has an advanced job and wow is it ever nice to see how you can tear through IT mobs and the mages hardly have to spend any MP because the players bonuses are boosting enough skills that the monsters just die so much faster and/or the party can evade so much better, etc. The XP flows like water and it's all because these guys realize that INVESTING (not just spending) the money on the *right* items for that particular job is worth it. Look at it this way: armor and weapons hold their value. So you might be sinking a lot of gil into it, but you're gonna get that gil back out again when you outgrow the armor and upgrade.
I went through four different ways to earn gil before I finally found one that I both like and has income potential. They're all a drain at low levels because doing craft skillups consumes resources and crystals which you either have to farm yourself (which takes forever) *or* you have to buy (and of course if you had the money to buy it you wouldn't be taking up the craft to earn gil). So the process is slow, sometimes agonizing, but if you stick to it you will *eventually* make progress. Being "rich" doesn't need to be a goal. I have more fun questing and xp'ing than I do earning gil - I only do the gil-earning stuff because I have to.
At lvl 27 you still have it pretty easy. Once Kazham runs dry for you (which will happen around lvl 31), there's really no "new" place to go get invites. You will find that, if you establish a good reputation, get a good LS, get in people's "friendslist", achieve high ranks, learn your job WELL, and keep your armor/skills/weapons up-to-date, that people will WANT YOU in their parties. They will seek you out from clear across Vanadiel EVEN when you are not looking for a party. But if you fail to do those things, the invites will run dry and you'll have a very hard time picking up a party again.
