now, i am the type of person who prefers to look cool, than to have shiney stats....BUT i know stats are important....

So i came up with an idea that would kick ass....

Say you have two items.... Example, Chaos Sollerets, and Bounding boots.

Myself, i REALLY want to wear my AF boots... but the bounding boots are SO MUCH BETTER stat wise...

What if there was an NPC that could cross synth stuff for a fee. You know, slap those Bounding Boot stats into the Chaos sollerets.... Pretty much just getting rid of the Chaos stats, and giving the Bounding stats.... So i could wear my black boots of doom, and have decent stats....

I hope this is not too confusing... but you would need the item you want it to look like, and the item you want the stats...

Putting the Boost Enhancement of my AF gloves on my Relic gloves would save me so much trouble, AND inventory space. Seriously, MNK gets kinda ripped off on inventory late in the game. One less freaking pair of gloves to carry around, the better. Same goes for Hats...

I always liked the idea of coloured dye, at least for the clothcraft recipes. If you want to craft the mnk/nin/sam set of equip for example, you could use the normal recipe + XXXX Dye, where XXXX could be Black, Blue, Yellow, Red, etc. You could probably use alchemy to do the same thing with smithing and goldsmithing equip.

this'd actually be a good idea if they found a way to make it work. it'd give ppl more freedom and customization, so u wouldn't look just like every other person who has your job at your lvl. it'd be a great idea ^^

I have an even better idea! How bout SE actually spends some quality time on increasing armor variety in the game! At lvl 7, all melee should be wearing leather armor, at 17: lizardskin armor. . . come lvl 60, all classes look the same with AF. Does anyone else find it aggrevating and frustrating that theres no individuality in the game? I understand the whole classic job look, but jeez, must all of us dps wear an empy's hairpin and leaping boots? While they work on the armor, how bout they tweak the monster textures? At the very least, make a red clipper or something and call it a lobster!

I thought this all had to do with limitation of texture memory on the PS2? I mean customization-wise, not stats-wise.

When playing DAoC dyes etc were very popular, that game even had customizable mantles, with a guild (linkshell-) symbol on the back.

It would be cool if atleast the PC-version of FFXI would evolve beyond the limitations of the PS2, the difference would be that PS2-users would see the plain/normal armor, but PC-users would see the customized one. Should even be possible for users to turn on/off the feature, just like animation-filters.

Personally I have already this somewhat in effect, since I changed the DAT for my charmodel to have black hair, and also replaced the DAT for hume females wearing OHats with a red Merman's cap, matching my Scorp Harness and Kote.^^

well being a PS2 player... i dont like the above idea...lol

I wasn't saying I wanted to limit PS2 players, but there seems to be some form of limitation in the hardware, that might not make it possible to run individualization features.

yeah....i understand....

thats why i think my idea would be easier for everyone to be able to handle...

Yes, statsmerging should be no problem for either system.

With XBox 360 FFXI around the corner, customizing appearance of armor would be a nice feature, even if it is not possible for the PS2-players, sorry I have to be selfish in this matter. ^^

well.... i become more interrested in the xbox 360 as i get more info... so i may be playing FFXI on 360....

Cross synthing idea if aweasome and the dye idea cuz I would so change the color of my rng af. That will also add lots if gear individuality even in earlier lvls i also tires if leather at 7 lizard at 17 everyone loks the fucking same and thats so gay. In EQ you can just change the color of your gear through the ooptions menu no cfarting neccesary.

Also with this cross sything idea would probably cost a assload of money but be very worth it in the long run but that can limit that to RSE and JSE gear. so that you af gear may look the same but according to what you have crossed synthed in it you stats could be completely different.

never going to happen, diffrent colors would decrease the value of equipment, and because of the shitty PS2 why do you think everything looks the same in this game? PS2 doesnt have the power to have all d iffrent types of equip weres as WOW pretty much every piece of equip you see on your char and looks diffrent from everything else its a shame wow sucks........

my only fear with doing this is, what if i really screw up my pimp hat? ...i wouldent want to get it again!

you can always request your AF but if your dumb enough to fuck it up than maybe you shouldnt be messing around with it XD

I just had a grade 4 moment and giggled uncontrollably at that.

Even if SE made 30 different armors for each level, FFXI society would still demand that everyone wore the best, so everyone would still look the same. At least the OP's idea circumvents the general population's disdain for anything individual. Getting variety into the game is tough, but swapping stats on preexisting pieces of armor just might do the trick. That said, would we see any red mages from AF levels to AF2 levels wearing anything but AF armor? What about other jobs? I'm thinking the entire 60+ population would look entirely the same. The biggest merit to this idea is that melees could put the stats from their optical hats into their AF hats and not look foolish. I may be alone in this oppinion, but I think Optical Hats look ridiculous.
