I dont get it... whats the fascination with this stuff?

What It Does:
-Increases Evasion by a lot
-Decreases Enmity by alot
-Takes up valuable armor slots not the typical back, waist, ring dealio

What Jobs Can Use it and Why:
BRD: Not to sure why a BRD would need all that evasion and -enmity
BST: Maybe they can use this for XPing? But wouldn't their normal AF etc be a much better idea?
DRG: Do they really take that much hate to need it?
MNK: Do they want to sacrifice all those ability boosts and stats in their other armor slots for more evasion and less enmity?
PLD: Less enmity... wha?
RDM: For Soloing I can see this maybe...
SMN: Your avatar takes all the hate anyways, why would you need either of the things on these armor pieces.
THF: For soloing maybe... but otherwise in a party situation you want as much enmity for TA'ing onto the tank as possible dont you?
WHM: Maybe for big NM's and Gods where you take a lot of hate you would want a couple of these pieces but then again you will sacrifice valuable slots for MP+ gear.

So... I ask again why are people making this stuff?

I think there are a few really good pieces for whm/rdm mostly from an -Enmity standpoint.

The feet are MUCH better than whm/rdm AF imo. +4 evasion and -4 enmity is better than +3 AGI, -10% spell interuption, -1 enmity and some MP, also RDM af feet have -20% spell interuption and shield skill.

Also, the crow bracers are -4 Enmity. That's better than the RDM AF hands, +4 dex and +10 parrying skill really isn't that great in a party situation. Great for emergency cure IV's.

The head just looks pimp, and it has the most -enmity of any head armor in the game that i've seen, -7 for the NQ, -8 for the HQ. RDM's probably won't use it, but that's a ton of -Enmity for a whm, and you only give up 4 MND, +14 mp and -1 Enmity from AF.

MP gear is only good as long as you have the MP for it

I look at the + evasion just as icing on the cake.

I don't really know how a melee could use it, since i've only played mage jobs :?

This is all at lvl 50, before you even get your AF also

maybe not uber

Enmity is a valuable stat, and -9 in *any* slot is gonna catch my eye as a whm. Granted, it's no mahatma cape, but raven jupon definitely belongs in Cure macros.

I've seen brds pull hate several times on larger HNM's, dont ask me how,
but i've seen it happen lots of times.
And as for smn, im really not sure here, i have virtuality no idea how
smn's work but dont the mob go after the smn when the summon is defeated?

Otherwise i guess it is as you say, mainly for solo.
But on the other hand, lots of people like to solo and might find this
gear great.

Maybe with a few key pcs monks could do more dmg in party and not worry about the repercussions? Idk just a thought, but yea I see this gear mostly for soloing as well melee wise.

Perhaps. But depending on what you have, it'll be tough to sacrifice a slot for a slight enmity drop without totally dropping your damage output a rung on the ladder.

Also a big factor is that it's a shiny new toy for people to play with. It'll no doubt die down after a while once people realize the limited applications, with only a few peices being bought as walk-around gear.

I wonder if stacking that much evasion would help with the WHM Maat fight. Throw on some Bat Earrings and drink a blinding potion on top of it and things might be very different. I haven't gone up against that old fart yet, but it's coming soon.

That is a very good idea Hal. If you try it, let me know how that turns out. Also, just to reiterate, if you need to borrow my Earth Staff when you go up against him, just send me a /tel and I'll send it asap^^.

SMN healers take a lot of hate when they have to be in a healing party
awesome gear for them ton of -hate for cure 3

Moment I saw the headpeice I knew a use for it... Ul[tab] Range party when I'm trying not to be main tank on Kindred. There really isn't any impressive headgear (Short of AF2 and Shura, neither of which I have access to yet) other than O-hat, and that's useless with Sushi. Not taking Condemnation to the face for 600+ damage [Yes, please.]

I'm seriously tempted to try it. I have my WHM test already, if some crafter would like to loan me the gear for the attempt (hint, hint Hada  ) Heh.

First they gave plds princely sword, and now they put us on this shit. What paladin Hating fool keeps coming up with these brilliant ideas? I'm gonna get me a full raven set and a princely sword! -39 enmity pld 4tw?

I remember getting bored at a genbu fight one day as a bard, and deciding I wanted to see how long it would take me to pull hate, and how hard genbu would hit me. Took less than a minute, and he hit for about 400 a pop.

I'll let you borrow my 4 Crow pieces for a Maat attempt if you want, Hal. :)

Anyway, I picked the NQ set (minus the head). Why? I quit leveling THF actively (in exp PTs anyway). WHM is my main now, and the majority of my funds go towards it. I still like THF though, and would like for it to get higher, even if I do so slowly. With these new exp boosting rings, and this gear, my THF can solo pretty damn well. +43 evasion just from just these 4 pieces of gear, an empress pin, 2 dodge earrings (that I farmed from Oozes), and a survival belt (that I bought for 10k long long ago); it's damn nice for being so cheap. I made over 3k in under 2 and a half hours last night; it doesn't sound like a lot, but I was fighting solely EP-- mobs. Was getting 61-70 exp/per mob. It was awesome. And I tried the mobs I was fighting with both my AF (while leveling my NPC) and with this gear; big difference. I hit for a bit less, get a few less critical hits... but I get hit far less. Was worth the gil, IMO.

Also, I'm thinking I will set up a macro for my WHM for use in emergency situations. Say I need to throw out a Benediction (or if 2hr isn't ready, Divine Seal + Curaga II/III or something, I dunno); just throw on these 4 pieces of gear, and combine that with the -4 enmity from Mushroom Soup (my preferred food) and the -1 enmity from my condom (AF) hat, and I'd have -26 enmity! Pretty nice if you ask me. :)

I bought the full set to experiment with on my BST once I get 2 more levels. As any BST can probably tell you, it's pretty easy to pull hate off of your pet if it gets a couple misses in a row and you do a critical hit. I want to see if I can go all out and not pull hate off of my pet with this gear. If so, I would say it's much better than the BST AF and if not, it's worth macroing in whenever I pull hate to lose it really fast or at least have a better chance of the mob's attack missing.

Depending on the results I'll keep the pieces I like and sell the pieces I don't.

I think they're something to macro in if things go sour on a job that can't take the damage.

These are 100% useless for a Thief. There are usually better choices for evasion, except for maybe the legs.

I only have the head piece, and that's all that I plan to get at the moment, I might get more later if I need them. As to why, I got it soley for endgame. When the plan consists of spamming cure 3 or cure 5 on a pld to keep him alive(like byakko or seiryu), I can pull hate pretty fast, so -enmity will be a nice thing to have. I do agree that having other gear would be better to begin with, but I can just macro this in after a single cure 3 and I'll never miss the mp.
