Does the lack of activity on QCDN reflect how FFXI is actually doing? There are sub-forums that haven't been touched in months. It seems pretty dead here.

Nope.

Think of it this way, apart from some recent changes to jobs, there's really nothing that new to discuss about.

You can go make a RDM melee thread though, lets see how that turns out. WE HAVE COMPOSURE NOW AND DEATH BLOSSOM! go

Did FFXI hit a high number of players recently? I swore I saw some kinds of annoucment about it.

Yeah, contrary to what the alarmists say (omg three people quit in one week, IS FFXI DYING?!), the game is still growing, just not as fast as a certain other more blatantly successful MMORPG.

SE should think of that little money maker called "advertising". just a thought.

Or it could gimp its content and bloat its numbers with sub 80's IQ subscribers... like a certain other massively "successful" MMO.

Maintank: gotta get a haircut, bye all! (logs)

I wouldn't really say growing. Its just been maintaining a static userbase for a few years now.

There was an announcement on the PlayOnline frontpage a few weeks back that stated it hit a record number of subscribers (2 million I think it was), so the userbase is growing.

Alot of people I spoke to about FFXI (those who got it and quit after their free first month) said that they quite because it was too hard. Most of them had previously played other MMO's such as WoW. But SE has done alot recently to make the game easier, namely for new players or those levelling up lower jobs, with the introduction of things like level-sync, treasure caskets and fields of valor, which seemed to have had an effect on subscribers.

And I agree with Zaltana, I don't know about the US but I know for the UK at least there is next to no advertising. The height of advertising for FFXI I see here happens in game shops when they put a small up sign when expansions are ready for pre-order. <.<

There'd be more people I bet if you guys JUST LET THE RDMS MELEE IN PARTY!!!;;

kthxbye:hiding:

Alot of people are at End-game areas though and have almost completed everything for their shells and themselves...after that what can you really do other than sit around whitegate looking all badass?

500k RMT, 1 Mill Mules, 500k Players probably.

Subscribers mean individuals, not their mules. 1 subscriber can have multiple content IDs, heck even multiple characters, but I think your comment is a tad off.........

No. It was the total number of characters that reached 2million. I'm pretty sure the games subscribers is still staying pretty still in the 500k area.

This isn't completely up to date but notice the trend in FFXI for the past few years?

I dunno, it seems like there's more players running around as of late.......but it could just be me since I'm back to leveling LOL

The game was "dying" in 05-06

Ever since mid 06 it's been stable at the same number of subscribers.

Not getting any better or any worse.

Also, kind of convenient that they release an info of a record number of active characters a few weeks after the first mog bonanza, where a lot of people made 10+ mules for the marbles, huh?

Yeah, it is.

Yeah, it is.

one requirement of mog bonanza is that a char has to have been created at least 45 calendar dates to take part in the event.

The problem with that announcement is that it wasn't subscriptions, just characters made. There's no way FFXI has 2 million active subs when just a few months ago it was sub 500k.

one requirement of mog bonanza is that a char has to have been created at least 45 calendar dates to take part in the event.

And? They made the announcement at least 50 days before the event started. It doesn't nullify the chance that a huge influx of characters were created specifically for the event.

Yeah but like Skaw said, they made the announcement just in time so people could rush out and make more characters. The only thing having that 45 day period does is make people have those mules activated for longer and so they pay more.

They announced it in time for people to make mules for the event, but still have to pay one monthly bill for all of the characters.

As for me, I sum it up to legitimately buying gil, since the total price of all of them would add up to be like $100+ for that month, but I guess some people care enough.
