cut your hair or don't come back to school.

or for humours sake at a board meeting "Morning bitches".
...So that's why I got fired huh
I agree about working in a relaxed environment but at my job it's all about formalities. At my current job everything is "Sir" or "Ma'am". The first time I said "Cool." to a customer my boss came down on me for that. The incident was a slip-of-the-tongue and don't do it anymore lol.
Geez where do you work that is that stick up the ass
Man if i went to this school i would be a complete douchebag about it. I would shave my head and get a tattoo on the back of my head so that they have to decide whether or not they wanna see the tat or let me wear a hat.
Or you know... get expelled :P

well thats up to them in all honesty i would get expelled for something like that and smile. The problem here is the lack of choice if this is a private school then they can do what they want but in a public school and with kids being required to attend them they should not be allowed to make any rules governing appearance. For a workplace you are there voluntarily and with that in mind you should follow the wishes of your employer. But any thing that is required should not be able to govern appearance.

Then that is just your personal preference. In a professional world you don't call other people "Dude" or acknowledge them with a "Sup" or for humours sake at a board meeting "Morning bitches".
QFT and there are reasons why people generally take a more formal approach. Otherwise, it'd end up like this http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1771556 (NSFW due only to language)

Actually jack ass, I'm a funeral director, but thanks for assuming I work with food.

I wasn't saying you did fast food. You can be a chef because you know that works with food, idiot.

I always donate my hair to locks of love. Anytime anyone I work for mentioned me cutting it, I just tell them why I grow it long. The primary reason is because I don't care what my hair looks like, but there are bald little girls getting treated for cancer that do care. I figure I'll help em out.

I'm thinking of doing this one. I've done lock of love before, but wouldn't mind do something else like this. Of course I don't think I'd look good bald so I'd always wear a hat or something.

Wow...I would never last in a place like that.

The job is actually pretty cool for the most part and sustains my lifestyle while going to school at the same time. I think the absence of saying "Cool." in the workplace is a better trade for having a great paycheck every two weeks lol.

FYI: This isn't a private school. Last I checked private schools don't have an alternative school away from the main campus (or come in districts for that matter, might be wrong about that though).

it could be a magnet (sp?) school, which are public, but still have a dress code

Yes, and if you READ what I had written, the word 'fast' was not even in my sentence. In fact, if you looked at the sentence I had written, and you had quoted in your reply, you would see that I wrote just "Food" and did not specify whether it was fast food, a restaurant job, a Chef job or ANY kind of job that deals with food because I was saying that I do NOT work in a job where you work with FOOD which is a GENERAL statement.

The reason I even said that was because you made it seem in your previous reply that only people who work with food have to regulate hair length (with th use of hairnets or hair ties) which is complete ignorance. There are other jobs, such as being a funeral director, where you are told how to wear your hair. Stop being such an ass and make assumptions about everything. Oh wait, I forgot, you're 18 and therefore KNOW everything.

On that note, did you fail reading comprehension or are you jut a total dick who likes to put words in people's mouths (or sentences in this case) to make yourself look like you're right and the rest of us are wrong?

That's pretty much what it boils down to, but that ain't how it is. One time when I was working at a gas station when I had long hair and a goatee. The Regional Manager hows up one day and takes one look at me and tells me to shave my face or get another job. After a bit of an ordeal, I shaved.

To be fair you did kind of blow up on him for using the word food. Albeit he was being a dick before. But to blow up over him using a word like food thath jutht thilly cwutididthur. Not just people working in fast food have to wear hairnets. At my old job working as a cook in a somewhat respectable restaurant the people in the kitchen had to wear hairnets.

Also my school has the WORST dress code policy ever. NO CLEAVAGE!!!!! Fortunately they don't really enforce the rule :P

it sucks, but everyone, or at least 99% of the population makes first impressions off appearances

Are all the teachers perverted old men? :o

How is it fair that he made an assumption that only people in the food industry are expected to have hair regulations? I fail to see how his assumption and my correction of this assumption was unfair. He said something stupid, he deserved to be called a jack ass.

And yeah, I did agree that people outside of fast food wear hairnets.

However - a slight derail - the purpose of wearing a hairnet/hair tie around food is for health reasons. Of course someone with long hair can work at these places, because everyone has to do this.

My whole point in this entire thread is that many places will expect you to hold a certain image because you are a reflection of their company when you are at your job. Some places will even write up a policy which you will have to follow which would state the length of your hair, the length of facial hair for guys, restrictions on types of jewelery that can be worn, the length of your skirt, the style of your pants, the colour of your suit jacket, the way you tie your tie, etc. That is all I was trying to point out in this thread, until I was dismissed as being someone in the food industry, and therefore expected to have some sort of policy on hair due to health reasons, as stated above.

What a fuckin cockbite. Has anyone here ever walked in to a store and gone "OMG!! The man behind the counter has HAIR on his FACE, of all places!! I'm never buying anything from this store ever again!!" or anything along the same lines only less dramatic? The answer obviously should be no...but if you have you should go fuck yourself in the ass with a cactus. Honestly though, who on earth would do that? If the boss gave me an ultimatum like that, I would shave, but I would then do everything in my power to fuck up his sales as much as possible and give the store the most problems I could without getting caught. So ultimately, it would be better for his sales if he wasn't such an uptight motherfucker. Yes, I am that kind of person.

Jesus I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. There could be some restaurants that really go down on people for appearance especially if it's a higher scale more known restaurant. I didn't say anything stupid at all because I'm sure most top chefs are a dick and really focus on appearance as his/her hands reflect back onto his/her reputation and appearance. What you said isn't really that unreasonable to find in a kitchen. I undertook (assumed) a guess at what you did. You flew off the handle for guessing what you did. The only connection I made that would have made anyone angry is they thought I was talking about being a burger flipper or a fry cook. That would have been insulting.

If you want to talk about maturity look at yourself. You're acting like a crazy bitch for flying off the handle for someone thinking that you may be a chef which honestly I think would be a cool job especially if you go into working with food specifically for art. Some of the pieces that some chefs do just for art using sugar are really well done and honestly look harder than some sculptures because you have to get the sugar to stick to other pieces of sugar using a blow torch. If one piece moves or breaks the whole thing can go down.

TL;DR It's not far-fetched to think a kitchen would set standards. Tats fade and can peel over time. Piercings can fall out and you not know it so it becomes not only a choking hazard, but a health issue as well.

Excuse me, but how am I acting crazy? I simply stated where you were wrong, several times, over your assumption of what I do. Also, yeah you did put words in my mouth the moment that you said that I thought you were inferring that I worked in fast food, which I did not say at all.

A crazy bitch would have been making RL threats, dropping F-bombs, and be totally irrational. I have done none of that in any of my posts, unless all of a sudden the use of 'jack ass' and 'dick' became irrational on a message board where people have said worse things to each other.

And where the hell did I say that it wasn't far fetched that a kitchen would set standards? I had already agreed with that point. If you read through my post again, you would see I am talking about jobs outside of the food industry.

I had long hair for a while, cut it like 2 years ago. I suppose it all comes down to personal experience but I never really ran into any trouble. I expect for every real discrimination like in this news article, there's 20 or so cases where people are being oversensitive. I think a lot of people wear their hair long to be different and as a result are then constantly looking for justification to that effect by viewing it that way.

Myself I just thought it looked good, but laziness took over vanity in the end.

I like the way I look with long hair and most people agree with me, and I've always just liked having long hair. Might be a complex brought on by my father already having thinning hair and a bald spot when I was born. I dunno. Either way though, I've never really had issues with long hair.

It's still BS though, a school sending guys to ALCs for having long hair is all kinds of fucked up... especially a public school. WTF.

No crazy bitches get pissed off easily for no fucking reason. You flew off the bat like I implied you were a fry cook or a burger flipper.
