David Letterman is a piece of shit!

Letterman's a funny guy and I used to like watching his show. Still, sleeping with your employees is not cool.

I think someone did the math and proved that he was married at the time (by who the women were and how long he was on that specific network for, he's had 2 late night shows, both with different names). Sorry if someone mentioned that already, I'm sleepy.

Someone "did the math?" lol What, someone is that bored that they're keeping an informed tab on who David Letterman's been boffing over the years? People need a new hobby.

Before we get the nails and the cross, the guy attempting the extortion was shacked up with one of the women who Letterman was intimate with at one point. From everything I've read, it sounds like a combination of jealousy and desperation from the guy, as he was deeply in debt and decided to try to cash in on a tidbit of inside info from his (ex)girlfriend. Letterman maintains that these relationships were prior to his marriage, and considering that he has was married on March 19th 2009, that's not a far stetch. He's been in a long time relationship with the woman, but who knows the terms of any relationship accept those two? For all anyone knows, they had an open relationship until they committed to marriage. It's no one's business.

If it was sexual harrassment, on the job, there would have been a complaint long before now. In fact, some of the women in question have specifically stated that the situation was not harrassment in the workplace. So what if a single man has relationships with women he works with? As long as he's not screwing them in the office, then who's frigging business is it, anyway? He's not a preacher, he's not some public politician who was married at the time. I don't really see why people are all "Oh he's so disgusting. How reprehensible." Really? A grown man having an active, consensual sex life? Stop the presses.

He refused to be bullied by some desperate fucker trying to blackmail him. He took the power out of the hands of the criminal by admitting something personal with complete honesty when he wasn't obligated to make his personal life public. I really don't see how admitting to having an active sex life prior to being completely monogamous with your spouse makes you a piece of shit.

Uh... no, someone did the math on the woman who instigated the blackmail and he was with his now wife at the time she claimed she slept with him. I'm not saying I care, because I honestly don't give a fuck I was merely pointing out that (while a lot of people are saying "who cares he wasn't married and can have sex with whomever he wants") he was not single at the time. You seem to be getting awfully worked up over a TV personality.

You acknowledged my post but didn't read it?

If you want to be completely anal, no, he didn't cheat on his wife. He cheated on his girlfriend that he later married.

I wish I had employees......

To the people saying he is not courageous for coming clean (particularly to miros for comparing it to recovering drug addicts)

To fall into sin/vice/whatever is the easiest thing to do, to fall and then rise back up to where you were is harder than anything you will ever experience.

Granted, its mroe noble to have never fallen in the first place, but that doesnt make the achievement any easier....

More specifically to letterman's case, the man came clean because he was called out. He didn't make a moral choice to cleanse his soul. He was perfectly happy keeping this part of his life hidden, so he doesn't earn the better part of valor for coming clean, he did it because it was the most personally beneficial move on his part to defeat this man that was attacking his life.

He does deserve credit for HOW he came clean though, amidst shame and self preservation, with the mans arrest he still could've attempted to keep everything a secret. But he chose to rid his skeletons once and for all regardless of the impact on his personal life and career.

I think its funny that it is QCDN's resident gays are the only ones that don't approve of what Letterman did.

Now you've forced me to clarify my position before people think I've caught "the gay". (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

I could careless who he bangs either. I just thought it was ridiculous that someone would threaten to blackmail a douchebag like Dave Letterman. In order to be blackmailed, you would have to have believed you did something wrong.

I seriously doubt a "don't judge no matter how aweful the thing is" lefty like Letterman thinks he did anything wrong or more importantly thought exposure would actually hurt him in the hollywood elite circle he runs with.

So by confessing on tv, he knew he would get the Roman Polanski, Michael Jackson etc. lefty loon sympathizers to tell him "how brave he was" and "he makes me laugh every night so who cares what he did".....

No, you just have to believe you'd be adversely affected by what you did if it got out. Roman Polanski sure as hell doesn't think he did anything wrong; he fled the country because he didn't want to go to prison. I love Chinatown, but I hope they drag his rapist ass back to the states and throw him behind bars. The idiots defending him need to be knocked upside their damned heads.

Not real sure why you're biting my head off here, Mirewen. I just found it mildly amusing that someone cared enough about the quantity and timeframe of David Letterman's sexlife to keep track... Don't know how that came across as somehow attacking you, but sorry if you took it that way.

Also, I very clearly did read your post, and if you'd read mine, you'd see I said:

Bolded for emphasis. You, me, and no one other than the two of them know what the terms of their relationship was. But he sure as shit wasn't "forsaking all others until death do us part" until March of this year. Not that I really give a fuck either, but if we're going to grill the guy and brand him this week's piece of shit, someone should probably put the facts out there correctly. That's all I'm saying.

I guess you didn't want to quote that part.

Nah, I just missed it when I read your post. Clearly, I need more coffee. I agree with you on this one, so please accept my apology and ignore my idiocy (this time, at least).

I don't know enough about the Letterman situation yet to be really annoyed -- if he was sleeping with equals, I can't really complain. If he was sleeping with woman on his payroll, he's a sexually-harrassing douchebag no matter how funny he is. Then again, I haven't watched his show in years so I can't get too worked up about it.

I don't get it.

If he was forcing sex on one of those women, then yeah, sure, he's dirt. But who has said these women didn't engage him first? I'm not making the argument that he is completely innocent in the exchange, but why is the guy the only one who's said to be an idiot. Where is the outrage at the woman who may or may not have "whored" herself out to further her career? Some women do use sex to their advantage too, it's not always just the guy who's taking advantage of the innocent and naive. After all, it's not as if any of them went running to the press.

I'm just saying... if we're gonna make assumptions, then let's be completely fair here.

He's the one with the power in the relationship. If a woman felt like she had to sleep with him to get ahead in her career, she's an idiot for it and he's a douchebag for taking advantage of that idiocy.

I think more people need to hear this being said. At least it's fair.

Didn't mean to pick apart your post Hali, I just hate the double standard.

I did read your post but it was highly contradictory;

Prior to marriage he's single is what I got from that. Being in a relation ship for 23 years but single? No, he was in a relationship, not single.

Not real sure why you're biting my head off here, Mirewen.

That wasn't even close to 'biting your head off'. That was me saying that he was in a relationship. They were together for 23 years before marriage, cheating is cheating. If his wife comes out saying that they didn't have a monogamous relationship, then that's different, but I doubt that's the case. He just comes across as a whore who can't keep his pants on with his female associates. He may have 'told the truth' but it took extortion to get it out of him.

I've already felt that Letterman was kind of a scumbag because he'll crack sexual jokes on national television about the children of politicians. The fact that he's a scumbag in his personal life is of little relevance to me.

I love how everything is political with Tom. Must've been beaten with the Red book numerous times growing up. No worries little fella, us Blues will take care of ya with our universal healthcare. :)

Spoiler:
I wonder if you think I'm serious Tom. You may be too far right to figure it out. Infact, I don't think you're far right. I think you're far WRONG!

Spoiler:
Ohohohohohoho, I am on a roll.

But anyway on topic, good for him for not giving in to the extortionist. In fact, I give him credit for going further than he planned to.

I'm not gonna rag on him because he's only saying this because he was being threatened. If he didn't need to say it, it shouldn't be said. But if he's being threatened into it coming out, would you rather hear it from him, or the guy blackmailing him? Outside of being a late night talk show host, he's just a guy who had some fun with fellow employees before marriage.

It wasn't rape and none of the girls he propositioned complained... so i don't see the problem. Although i do find it funny that he typically comes off all high and mighty and he has a skeleton of his own.
