Tuesday nights on Spike TV.
First episode came on last night. Gladiator vs. Apache. I won't spoil who came out on top in order to let some people watch the episode, but discussion is open.
Figured this'd be a nice thread for talking about the show, as well as predicting who will win the next fight. Episodes are also up on Spike TV's website after airing.
Next week appears to be Viking vs. Samurai. My money's on Viking, but only by a narrow margin.

There's Spartan vs. Ninja, and Pirate's somewhere in there. But they're not directly matched up.
Yet.

I enjoyed the first episode. I dont agree with the victor in any way but it was still entertaining to watch.

I am going to throw my feelings out there for ep2 and say.. There is no chance a samurai is going to be defeated by any warrior who doesnt have a serious advantage, like a gun.

There weapons were very advanced as the Katana is not just some steel shaped like a sword and they were some of the best archers ever. If the Viking wins in that episode i will just need to laugh it off.

EDIT: Had to come back and add the things i felt are stupid about the show and the animal vs show. They set up these fights in the most retarted and one sided areas. There may be no fair way to set it up and so they may as well do 2 fights, one on each fighters turf.

How would the apache do in an arena lol? It is more likely an apache would be held captive and need to fight a gladiator in an arena then a gladiator just walking around in the open on indian turf... He wouldnt be a gladiator if he was free to roam no?

And the other complaint is they pick some of the stupidest weapons to make it one sided yet again... Freaking gladiators had bows, stronger ones then the apache just to make it even more stupid...

I just watched the first episode. I kinda figured the Apaches would be more the victors before even watching.

I think this show is BADASS.

Anyone know if this is like a tournament or something? Is there gonna be an overall winner in the end? Or where we can find a list of all the warriors to be mentioned?

I liked it, pretty interesting, although I wish it was less of a pissing contest between the guys doing the testing. Those 2 Apache guys were douche bags.

I thought both sides talked too much shit and lacked respect for either opponents. At the end of the day they were all great warriors and its impossible to 100% depict who was the better warrior.

Edit: The Sneak Peek for next week looks like the same type of guys, cocky and arrogant. Im pulling for the Samurai for the simple fact that Vikings raped and murdered many innocent people.

Yeah but atleast the Gladiator guys talked about how the apaches were sneaky and atleast gave them a little props, the apache douches just talked about how they were the most amazing warriors to grace the earth basically.

I made my girlfriend watch it with me late last night after she made me watch "Groomer Has It" (dog grooming competition) earlier. She picked Apache, I picked Gladiator. I thought after seeing that trident spray the blood everywhere, he was a sure thing.

I agree, the guys doing the weapon demos were all douches.

I think being an arrogant douche is a prerequisite for being on a Spike Show though lol, it is entertaining but man, when both sides act like douches, i kinda wanna see them both lose. The Apache seemed like the underdog, and i was rooting for them, but man "Whichever arrows goes through your heart!", i thought Native Americans were supposed to be peaceful and respectful.

P.S: Why the fuck did Russell Crowe not use a trident? GDI that wouldve been sick

Not all tribes were peaceful. Some tribes were down right brutal and drunk blood thirsty types.

I knew before watching that it would have to be the Apaches. To me it's very simple. They're stealthy, nimble and are used to hunting large dangerous prey that can out run them.

Ya but this show suffers the same major flaw as the animal vs show..

Setting for the fight.

How in the world did the gladiator become a free man to roam the west and find an apache? In doing so letting the apache roam free to all its advantages, as you mentioned stelth and speed.

Wouldnt it make more sense to think an apache was captured and setenced to be a gladiator, setting up the gladiator vs apache fight in the circular ring?

In the first setting technically the gladiator wouldnt be a gladiator anymore eh? I mean if he is free then he is not fighting to live anymore.

This show and the animal vs show just pick a victor they think is cool and make sure there is evidence to make it seem reasonable.

The example is clear in the first episode. They picked a NA western fighting zone, taking away what makes a gladiator a gladiator.

They gave the apache another clear advantage by making a complete false weapon lineup for the gladiator. Who and what law from roman times says gladiator had to use rocks as projectiles and no bows? Not to mention when gladiators used bows they were roman bows, a much stronger and more accurate bow then you would find on an apache.

I love the show because you get to see demonstrations of what the weapons could do. On the flip side the show is just stupid and full of false shit.

I was talking about the people of today, that i thought they were peaceful and more respectful, but i get where your comming from, im sure that competitive spirit sticks with them.

As for what Osyris said, that video of the fight at the end is mostly just for "Show". They did 1000 battles to test and see which would win, taking in terrain and all the possible weapons into account. The Apache won 667 to the Gladiators 333. They just showed one possible outcome of a battle for viewing purposes.

I thought the show was accurate, and its really just a show because itd be impossible to pick a clear cut victor, i actually really got into it.

they still ran the numbers as if the scenario was set to be a ranged area. The bow won the apache 180 battles right off the start i believe it was... So basically that should have been thrown out as gladiators do not use fucking rocks to fight lol.. They also can use bows.

They use whatever weapons are given to them at the start of battle. They have no set weapon list as the apache does. The show picked a set of weapons for them and made sure there was a clear advantage for the apache.

The information in the show was full of false shit Airou. I dont really feel the need to post everything that was false in the show and future episodes. I still find it entertaining because the skulls and meat stuff is just so cool.

The only false shit ill expose now is again the gladiators bow. It was called an arcus.

The apache had some of the shittiest bows for a simple reason... They were able to sneak up close enough to make a shitty bow deadly. The bow they used only registered 65mph. The european bows at the time, Arcus, were composite bows used by the romans and could have killed the apache from 2-3x the distance of the apache bow.

So if this show wants to get real the gladiator, outside the arena with the same hunger it had inside, would have killed the apache easily.

Now i want to see some serious shit tonight with the Samurai. They are literally at the top of the food chain in all forms of combat. That is until modern age and guns lol.

Wouldn't enslaved Gladiators have to work their way up the ranks to get access to better weaponry? I really don't know but that's kinda how I see it happening. Otherwise fight to the death would be survival of the fittest with whatever hunks of steel and shitty blades may be laying all damaged on a back table.

I pictured the whole arena fight when you first mentioned it. Even in a 'caged' setting, you're talking a massive area, the apache would still have plenty of room to dodge his charging opponent.

It would have been nice had they showed the flip side though eh.

In any setting they choose the gladiator has a better bow at his side as an option. He would have had better range and accuracy and surely the numbers would have flip flopped.

I mean i understand the macho shit involved in the show even though so much is false... And to just run some numbers to decide a winner is more of a joke lol. With that in my mind all i would want is a flip side as you mentioned Cheebs. Oh well.

Also i love the narrator dude is one eyed willy from 300. Sweet macho touch.

Yea he's the hotty from LotR too ! lol I recognized his voice immediately! >.> you think he's perfect for sexy time.

The numbers thing is generally all anyone would do really now. I guess it's the best way to determine. Mythbusters would have done the same.

Its one of the huge problems with overestimating everything now a days. The other example i would use is scouts in pro sports...

There are scouts in pro sports that use numbers, seconds to travel a distance, weight number lifted and stuff like that.

Then there are scouts that can just find natural talent and judge it without numbers and stats.

The argument is endless for this situation but they do get interesting. Truth be told the numbers dont tell the whole story every time.

Ok so one weapon in to todays show and i am allready embarrassed..

These fools just gave a nod to an Axe over the Katana.. They dont even consider the Katana could just cut right through the Axe itself lmao.. They did not talk at all about how the Katana is tempered and is a very dense blade that may even cut through the Vikings next weapon, a sword of some type. Which was probably mass produced at their time lol.
