Death Note dub to air 20th October on [adult swim]

Now.. the true test will be L.

Ah yes, L... This should prove to be very interesting.

Edit: Damn, The forums don't have Old English text /cry

I really wanted to make it look badass XD

I'm more concerned with Misa's voice. If they fuck up Misa I'm going to quit watching.

shallow! :P I think you're too wrapped up in Japanese voices cause you hear them first (as most people are). I find that, lately, most English and Japanese voice actors are fine for their parts. Fit their characters gewd.

I'd say the only issue with english dubs are pronounciations. Some voice actors, like Johnny Yong Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal, and Crispin Freeman pronounce japanese names great. Many, however, do not.

What the fuck are you talking about? I'm apparently one of the most lenient people when it comes to voice acting, so I have no clue where you got the idea that I'm wrapped up in the Japanese voice cast.

I like her character(she's my favorite in the series, actually), if they pick a voice that fits her character well, I'll enjoy it; if they fuck it up, giving her a horrible voice actor or one that isn't anywhere near to what her character should sound like, then I'm going to stop watching the dubs.

Having never seen the original Japanese version or heard their voices, I was impressed with the 1st episode. My friend kept telling me to get into the series, but I never had much time to devout to it. I already know one plot twist, but that won't stop me from watching it. I'm just hoping we get a good batch of episodes right now, it would suck to get into the series & then have it go on hiatus.

Probably not allowed. And no dub can ever be as good as the sub so i see no goodness from this, although it has a chance at being decent. Bleach's dubs were terrible though so I'm not holding my breath.

I usually can tolerate most dubs but...I just can't live with Death Note.

Ryuk is okay, but something about Light's voice makes me want to go around the mall and scare babies. >.<

But maybe I don't know anything, because I can live with One Piece's dub.

(I like Bleach dubs, especially Rukia's voice :]. Renji's voice sucks, though.)

Um... No.

LOL No.

Your standards are either retardedly high or your ears don't work.

Umm yes... atleast in my experiance, i have never heard a dub that i liked more. To me it just sounds like japanese voice actors put it a lil more pizazz in there work if you will. I'm not saying all dubs are terrible. CB was decent, samurai champloo, FMA all come to mind right off the top of my head, but i didn't like any of them better than the subbed version, not by a long shot.

Also, to be honest i've never watched a dub of bleach. When I heard the teaser for it with the "Hi im Ichigo Kurosaki" or how ever it went, i wanted to shove a pencil in each of my ears so i never had to hear that shit again. Maybe the actual anime is good, but the teaser was just plain shit in a hand basket.

And maybe my standards are pretty high, but they will stay that way until i hear a dub thats better than the subbed version.

Edit: Just watched part of the DN dub on youtube, got about 2 mins in and closed the window. Maybe dubs just turn me off but I can't watch em. Except samurai champloo and cowboy bebop. Could be if i see the dub first i can stand it, but still like the sub more, who knows. Light sounded like a fag, and ryuk just didnt do it for me. The mom sounded like shit and then i turned it off. :(

I don't see how he possibly couldn't, unless you hated his Japanese voice too; the two almost the same voice.

Your "standard" for dubs is stupid. All dubs suck until you find one that's better than the subs? First of all you're comparing two completely different translation methods, one of which has an enormous advantage of not needing to actually say what's been translated so they can do a more literal translation. That, coupled with the fact that they don't have to deal with timing the mouths means that subs will always have a superior translation.

Second, no dub would be better than the originals, because something is always lost in translation; hell even the subs aren't as good as the original dialogue. The best that you could ever get is a translation with as much of the original meaning intact as possible, and with the dubs you'd get voices that match the characters. No, they don't sound exactly the same, but the voices DO fit the characters; Johnny Yong Bosch's voice isn't as deep as the japanese VA for Ichigo, but he does a damn good job and the series keeps winning awards for the quality of their voice acting. Hell, you've never even seen the series and you're saying it was terrible; yeah, you're a real credible critic for voice acting.

If you're just going to adopt a position with such an impossible requirement, just stay out of discussions about dubs completely. Not everyone has idiotic standards of what constitutes a good dub; so if you're not actually going to contribute something to the conversation(and no, saying "all dubs suck" is NOT contribution) then just stay out.

The ol' Battle of Subtitle VS Dubbed.
Alas, being the old man that I am today I still remember people fighting to the death about Sailor Moon and Tekkaman translations. Ah, alas..

My only true gripe about newer dubs isn't the voice acting, and it isn't the "Oh, his voice is deeper in the original." thing. It's ADDING LINES WHERE THERE WHERE NONE!!!

I.e. Funimations new Redub of DBZ. Originally? Intense moments of silence. Now? Lines of Vegeta offering to have Gokuh join him, Or Freeza saying Gokuh's shoes are untied.

I'll give it again to Death Note. The lines are surprisingly closer to the original then I've seen in along time.

"Juicy."

LMAO. Yeah, cause you know i claimed to be a credible critic for voice acting. Fuck man, sorry for having an opinion that isn't the same as yours. Ryuk's voice isn't bad, just to me it doesn't have the same effect as the sub.

And no, I haven't watched a FULL episode of bleach. The trailer had their voices in it and, judging from that, it sounded crappy TO ME. ITS MY OPINION. Also, i just watched part of an episode on youtube and yeah, same opinion. I think it sounds lame.

Also how is my "standard" stupid. Isn't it pretty fucking common sense? I mean, until i find one that IS better than a sub, why would i have an reason to think dubs are better? Thanks for putting words in my post though. I never said ALL DUBS SUCKED, in fact i said i've liked several that i've seen, i just have never liked them MORE than the sub. Again, I'm not saying dubs are bad. In fact I'd probably watch Bleach and Death Note if I couldn't watch the subbed ones, but since i can watch the subs then my TV won't be turned on for the dubs.

Like i said, I probably just don't like it because I already watched the subs and have the thought of how their voice should sound to me. So when i turn on bleach its like wait wtf thats not right.

I'm starting to think you do have a hearing problem, because they sound almost identical.

Also how is my "standard" stupid.
It's stupid for three reasons. One, because you set an impossible condition as the only way that dubs would be good. Two, because you're basically bitching about apples and oranges and treating them like identical fruits. Three, you're assuming that everyone is saying the dubs are better than the subs, when in reality everyone is saying they are just a good translation with good voice acting. You use a completely unrealistic standard that just shows a complete bias against dubs, and you're acting like you're not in the vast minority with your opinion.

Again, if you have such an obvious bias against something, don't try to join in on discussions about it just to spout off your bias.

Well sorry for having an opinion man. I don't get it though, you say its impossible for a dub to be better than a sub cause of translation and blah blah w/e else, and then when i say i like the sub better im bias? Bias because I like the superior one? And telling me I shouldn't join the convo because of my "bias" or opinion is silly. It's the internet dude, wtf do you expect on a public forum.

And can you explain my standard to me? Cause as i said for the third time now that it isn't all dubs suck and the subs are better. I just personally haven't heard a better dub than a sub YET. And as i said earlier, according to you, its impossible for a dub to be better therefore my "standard" should be dead on. But apparently I'm just a bias, retarded and deaf person since bleach and death note are so blatantly similar to the sub that anyone should be able to compare them.

Also I was wondering, do you personally know someone thats a voice actor? Or do dubs just need protection from the righteous such as yourself?

That is some excellent backtracking, keep it up!

As for your last question, I'm just responding to some idiotic statements. Pointing out idiocy does not a personal vendetta make.

Well i think its pretty fucking idiotic when people don't read a whole post before they reply, and instead quote one line from it and rip on that. If you took the time to read my last 2 posts, and somewhat the first one on this page, you'd see they all pretty much say the exact same thing. So, i'm not really backtracking since I've already said that several times.

I did forget about my first post though were i said no dubs can ever be as good as the sub (oopsie) which I'll restate. Its not that they can NEVER be better, just that, i've yet to hear one THAT I THINK is better. But even still, according to you

no dub would be better than the originals, because something is always lost in translation;

my original statement is correct, so i don't really see why we are even arguing.

But hey dude, keep up the work on proving how everyone who doesn't share your opinion is idiotic
