I doubt you're different than others, and I completely agree with you. It's the selfless nature of some that will help the game thrive, and really help everyone in the end. That's what makes this one of the more unique MMORPG's out there, and why this time I'm back and plan on sticking it out.

----Rones:
I invested my gil in high value items to try to maintain value with ever rising inflation. Now that is the worst place for my gil to be. Worse than day trading.

They will go back up. The economy is fine, I'm kinda tired of seeing the expensive items continually dropping though. However, that is just my E-peen shrinking

I feel your pain .. but I haven't won a PCC from that BCNM yet. Even so.. if all the other prices drop, then relatively the PCC will still sell well. 20 mil isn't as extraordinary a number as 40 mil.. especially split 3 ways.

But when everything is lower in price.. the "value" is still the same.

People need to stop being impressed with the huge numbers, and think about keeping our game alive. If prices had continued to rise, and inflation became more exaggerated, then we would no doubt have less new adventurers.. and when the newbies no longer match the numbers of those leaving.. we have a dying game. Personally I'd rather a thousand gil mean something again. I don't mind having to work a little harder to buy that <insert ridiculous NM here> item so a crafter can make a <insert uber gear here> , then log on to see a message from SE announcing FFXI's closing.

also I don't mind seeing other people wearing the same "uber" gear I am.. I just want to perform at my job the best that "I" can. Maybe that's where I'm different from some of the other players ....
QFT!

Everything usually adjusts accordingly. So what if some items you used to sell aren't raking in millions at a time. It also means the higher priced items you would buy, most likely cost millions less.

I don't understand the gil stockpiling... Why make money and not spend it? I'd rather do so with equipment. I know if there's an item that I'll use on another job sometime down the road, I wouldn't sell it just to have more gil, unless there is something that I REALLY, REALLY needed. Even then, I'd rather raise the money to buy it, instead of selling off things I have.

just to note PCC were 14 mil last i check'd

doesnt matter much if prices go down- i am almost positive its because its getting to the end of the semester/school year and all us students are bogged down with work. Once we start gettin gout for the summer (im done tomorrow) the velocity of money/gil should go up and you will probably see inflation. Just like christmas break where everyone was home- except not as drastic since we all get out at different times and for longer periods of time.

If prices are dropping, having your spare assets as gil will actually make you money. 1 million gil at Christmas will still be 1 million gil today, however a Dark Ore at Christmas (1 million gil then) is now only worth ~300k.

If prices are rising, having your spare assets as items will actually make you money. It allows you to keep up with the inflation which is the devaluation of gil.

Yep, you just have to watch for when the trend reverses and not get burned like I did. :banghead3:

Perhaps, but hard to say. We're looking at a minor amount of wealth redistrobution as the new players gradually build up their own share in the economy. The question that interests me is whether or not we're actually looking at a truly deflationary period in the game.

Noone saw that coming. Inflation is almost always a one way street, and noone really believed that another of SEs anti-gilseller measures would actually be effective in removing so much gil from the system....

Woodworkers are probably jumping for joy from the sheer amount of mobs dropping wind crystals in the expansion.

Fellow Alchemists are too, from the sheer amount of people too afraid to find out what aggros and what doesn't. heh.

well the only thing i don't know is how much of the player base are students- i know theres lots of older people playing this game. I do know that when people aren't playing as much money doesn't get spent as fast and prices dont inflate as much.

If you don't believe that last line: say you have a few million gil and you haven't logged on in a while. Then that few million gil might as well not even be in the economy and make prices drop.

Agreed. Tha vast majority of my gil was in items, which was really killing me. Fortunately Ive made quite a bit during this expansion... but I'm just going to be putting a lot of it into more items. -.-

lol, I doubt even Odon had that profound an effect on the server.

I am not worried about my gil for now. As long as I have the best gear for my thief possible which includes HQ items, I'm happy. This depression won't hurt me until my shit flat out stops selling.

I just wish my junk wouldn't get undercut by 2k everytime I put it in AH. its annoying. Otherwise i'd be fine with everything.

Silent Oils and Prism Powders are the new lolsushi!

Higher prices on fish that are commonly botted, like black sole, usually indicate that something happened to kill most of the bots. I'm assuming it was the expansion update. I haven't fished for sole in a long time, because it's just such a bloody frustrating thing to do for 40k a stack, or lower.

Maybe I should try again, if they're really up to 90k.

The expansion changed fishing fatigue rules a little. Combined with all the exploration in the new areas, sole are now up to 100k a stack...which is where they should've been all along, as far as I'm concerned.

Earth, Wind, Fire crystals may have gone down, but I'm profiting off the Dark. Lighting and Water Crystals, sort of.
