Delta Airlines really screwed this guy

Man I would've been so pissed if I was in this situation -- basically a guy has tickets to fly from the USA to Brazil on Delta Airlines but the Delta agent won't let him board because she doesn't understand the documentation. The poor guy had to buy a $4,000 ticket to Brazil on AA so he could get down there on time.

I've been screwed by delta before and its one of the last airlines I will take if I can help it.

Isn't that where you demand a manager or something?

when I was in school we had a delta guy come for career day. At one point he pointed at me and said "anyone including you can learn and become a delta airline pilot" I have not flown with them since.

Where'd you get $4,000 from? The OP in that link only stated having to fork over $2,200.

Regardless of the actual price, that's still ridiculous having to pay anything because the ticket agent was uninformed.

Probably for the possible return flight charge? Though at that point he should just get a round trip ticket.

Why he didn't get someone down with more power I do not know. When shit goes off in any store I always ask to speak with a supervisor or manager. Most of the time the poor cashier doesn't even have the power to do anything about the situation (please bare that in mind the next time you're calling a cashier useless. We think you're a cunt.).

OP only mention one-way. *

Since he was dealing with a timetable laid out by the Brazilian government for obtaining permanent residency, it sounds like it was a time sensitive flight. He didn't want to risk starting the 18 month process over again.

So wait. Did he get there really late or something and had no time what so ever before the plane takes off to speak to someone higher up? I'm not saying it's his fault or anything, but I think someone with more power would of probably let him through.

It doesn't say, but I think he arrived there at the normal recommended time. I'd imagine a regular flyer would not cut it that close to the wire.

OP in link said:
I used some of my Delta SkyMiles to book a round trip ticket and thought everything would go smoothly like the 2 dozen international flights I have taken in the last 5 years.

It just sounds like this time the person behind the desk messed up, or there was a fluke in the system.

Maybe it's just because for stuff like flights I'm usually there fairly early so if problems do arise I'm ok on time.

The implication that I get is that the guy was dumb, left things to the very last minute, and as such couldn't afford to wait around, probably miss his flight, and wound up paying $2000 as an idiot tax levied by an even bigger idiot.

Like Lucki pointed out -- I doubt anyone who takes a dozen international flights a year will wait till the last minute to rush through the airport.

You'd think, but I've seen worse.
